Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first and most complete religion belonged to Adam and Eve. They lived with God, and after being cast out, they retained a memory of living in God's presence. Adam taught the first eight patriarchs born after him the Religion of the Fathers, which involved direct communion, contact, and connection between mankind and God. It enabled the faithful to hear directly from the Lord His promise of eternal life, to seal them by covenant into His Heavenly Family. Despite nearly universal apostasy and rebellion against God while Adam lived, the line of first or Patriarchal Fathers preserved the true religion. Their religion was Adam's religion, and their understanding reached back to the Garden of Eden. They experienced visions, ascended into Heaven, obtained promises of exaltation, and were transformed by their experiences from men into angels of God. After Shem (Melchizedek), an apostasy lasted until Abraham. Although he was raised by an idolater, Abraham searched for the true God of Heaven. He "sought for the blessings of the Fathers," the very thing Malachi prophesies will return before the great and dreadful return of the Lord. Like Adam (at the beginning) and his descendant, Enoch, Abraham was caught up into Heaven and received a tutorial endowment from God. The covenant of the first Fathers was renewed and conferred upon him by Melchizedek, thereby restoring continuity back to Adam. Abraham represents the key Patriarchal Father prophesied of in Malachi. Abraham not only renewed the covenant of the Fathers (including Noah and Enoch), but also, through the Abrahamic covenant, God established Abraham as the new head of the family of God on Earth. The Book of Abraham has become a battleground because it is so important for our salvation. Recovering the Religion of the Fathers, becoming of one heart with the Fathers, and fulfilling the prophecy of Malachi are directly connected to Abraham. The more we can learn of Abraham, the more we can know of the covenant with the Fathers spoken of by Malachi, and those same blessings of the Fathers that will be administered again before the end. We can, if faithful, obtain all that the original Fathers received from God at the beginning. Therefore, any book written by Abraham should be priceless to us. The Lord's "strange act" is approaching completion. The promises made to the Fathers are being vindicated. The Restoration has recommenced, and if we are faithful, it will not be paused or interrupted again. Although Israel's numbers are few, there have never been great numbers willing to sacrifice everything for God. The Religion of the Fathers presents a strong defense of the authenticity of the Book of Abraham as translated through Joseph Smith Jr. in 1835, and subsequently published in the Times & Seasons in 1842. It also presents an expanded view of the Restoration of the gospel, its ancient roots, current covenants, and prophesied future. Topics covered include Christianity, miracles, heaven, hell, the apocalypse, truth, the Bible, the devil, historical evidence, Lectures on Faith, the Ten Commandments, signs of the times, Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, the law of consecration, the Joseph Smith Papers, Joseph's journal, the translation process, the destiny of the Christian church, polygamy, saving grace, and many more.

Book excerpt: At the present time, when so-called Islamic radicalism, terrorism and Jihadism occupy major media space, with Islam often depicted as the main culprit, the book attempts a tour de force. It proposes that Islam is as much victim as culprit in the history that has led to the current hostility. This is because the common claims of both mainstream and radical Islam that Islam represents the high point of the Abrahamic tradition, and therefore a purification of Judaism and Christianity, have been largely ignored, misunderstood or blatantly rejected by these faiths and therefore by ‘the West’ in general. This rejection has effectively rendered Islam as the poor cousin, if not the illegitimate sibling, of the tradition. In turn, this has created long-term resentment and hostility within Islam as well as robbed the ‘Judaeo-Christian West’ of a rich, inter-faith understanding of the wider Abrahamic tradition. The book explores these claims through textual, historical and theological analyses, proposing that many of them stand up better to critical scrutiny than has been commonly acknowledged. It further proposes that seeing Islam in this way has potential to re-awaken its self-understanding as a leader of accord among the Abrahamic faiths, of the kind that characterized the era of Convivencia when, in medieval Spain, Islam constructed and contributed to advanced civilizations characterized by relatively harmonious co-existence between Muslims, Christians and Jews. The book focuses on the role that a more respected and self-confident Islam could play in forging enhanced inter-faith relations in a world that desperately needs them as it struggles to understand and deal with modern and particularly vicious forms of radical Islamism.

Returning to God’s Word is our only hope for these troubled times. On the cusp of these changing times, a remnant is being identified and “called out” by the Holy Spirit to return to the foundational roots of Christianity. The First Century Church of Jesus’ Apostles was vastly different from the church of today. Their foundational strength was built upon the Rock of Jesus Christ and was founded upon the Biblical (Hebrew/Jewish) customs of Jesus Christ and His disciples. This book is a basic handbook—a “101 Primer”—for reconciliation and restoration. Its exposure to the rich Hebraic customs and traditions of Jesus’ day will bring a refreshing breath to traditional Christianity. It’s a call to return to “the faith once delivered to the saints,” to prepare for eternity in God’s city, the New Jerusalem.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the roots of Christianity run deep into Hebrew soil, many Christians remain regrettably uninformed about the rich Jewish heritage of the church. Our Father Abraham delineates the vital link between Judaism and Christianity, exemplified by the common ancestry of the two faiths traceable back to Abraham. Marvin Wilson calls Christians to reexamine their Semitic heritage to regain a more authentically biblical understanding of what they believe and practice. Wilson, a trusted voice among both Jews and Christians, speaks to both past and present, first developing a historical perspective on the Jewish origins of the church and then discussing how the church can become more attuned to the Hebraic mindset of Scripture. Drawing from his own extensive experience, he also offers valuable practical guidance for salutary interaction between Christians and Jews. Discussion questions at the end of each chapter make this book especially suitable for use in groups—Christian, Jewish, or interfaith—as readers strive to make sense of their own faith in connection with the other. The second edition of Our Father Abraham features a new preface, an expanded bibliography of recent relevant works, and two new chapters: one that discusses Jewish-Christian relations after the Holocaust and another that reflects on Wilson’s own fifty-plus-year career as an evangelical Christian deeply committed to interfaith dialogue. As Christians and Jews feel a growing need for mutual support in an increasingly secular Western world, Wilson’s widely acclaimed book will offer encouragement and wise guidance toward this worthy end.

Book excerpt: ***2015 National Jewish Book Award Winner*** In this powerful and timely book, one of the most admired and authoritative religious leaders of our time tackles the phenomenon of religious extremism and violence committed in the name of God. If religion is perceived as being part of the problem, Rabbi Sacks argues, then it must also form part of the solution. When religion becomes a zero-sum conceit—that is, my religion is the only right path to God, therefore your religion is by definition wrong—and individuals are motivated by what Rabbi Sacks calls “altruistic evil,” violence between peoples of different beliefs appears to be the only natural outcome. But through an exploration of the roots of violence and its relationship to religion, and employing groundbreaking biblical analysis and interpretation, Rabbi Sacks shows that religiously inspired violence has as its source misreadings of biblical texts at the heart of all three Abrahamic faiths. By looking anew at the book of Genesis, with its foundational stories of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, Rabbi Sacks offers a radical rereading of many of the Bible’s seminal stories of sibling rivalry: Cain and Abel, Isaac and Ishmael, Jacob and Esau, Joseph and his brothers, Rachel and Leah. “Abraham himself,” writes Rabbi Sacks, “sought to be a blessing to others regardless of their faith. That idea, ignored for many of the intervening centuries, remains the simplest definition of Abrahamic faith. It is not our task to conquer or convert the world or enforce uniformity of belief. It is our task to be a blessing to the world. The use of religion for political ends is not righteousness but idolatry . . . To invoke God to justify violence against the innocent is not an act of sanctity but of sacrilege.” Here is an eloquent call for people of goodwill from all faiths and none to stand together, confront the religious extremism that threatens to destroy us, and declare: Not in God’s Name.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Believers, who have come to the one True God through faith in Yeshua (Jesus), have been grafted into the Commonwealth of Israel. Through the prophet Ezekiel, God told that He Himself would come and rescue His lost sheep and set one shepherd over them. When Yeshua came, He declared that He was that Good Shepherd and He had other sheep who were not Jewish; they must be brought into the fold also. This uniting of Jew and Gentile together in one Body is called the One New Man. Non-Jewish Believers have been kept separated from their Jewish Brothers for the past 1800 years. Much rich heritage was lost to the non-Jewish part of Messiah's Body. Yet God said that Messiah will be retained in Heaven until the complete restoration of everything He had spoken through the prophets was accomplished. It is the purpose of this book to restore the Body of Messiah to the understanding of the Jewish roots of their faith. May we be the answer to Yeshua's prayer that all who believe would become One in Him. DeeAnna Koven was born again at age five through the ministry of Jewish Evangelist Hyman Appelman. She began teaching in Sunday School at age 12, and continued throughout her life in churches and Messianic congregations. After Bible college and the Child Evangelism Fellowship Training Institute, she trained teachers in CEF, taught in a private church school, tutored missionary children in Spain, and taught in a Hebrew academy at Temple Aron HaKodesh in Lauderdale Lakes, FL, where she met and married Jack, her late husband of 28 years. This is her first published book.

Book excerpt: It's easy to get discouraged by the headlines. It can often feel as if God has left the building, like we are on our own. We want to believe God's promises to us, and we search for signs of his continuing restoration of the world in which we live. Now, with passion and heart, two leading experts on Christianity and culture cut through the chaos and uncertainty to show readers how God is powerfully active and intensely engaged in fulfilling his promise to restore all things unto himself. Through inspiring real-life stories of justice, mercy, love, and forgiveness in our midst, Smith and Stonestreet present a God who is intimately involved in his creation and using his church to work out the redemption of this world.

Book excerpt: In an age of terrorism and other forms of violence committed in the name of religion, how can religion become a vehicle for peace, justice, and reconciliation? And in a world of bitter conflicts-many rooted in religious difference-how can communities of faith understand one another? The essays in this important book take bold steps forward to answering these questions. The fruit of a historic conference of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim scholars and community leaders, the essays address a fundamental question: how the three monotheistic traditions can provide the resources needed in the work of justice and reconciliation. Two distinguished scholars represent each tradition. Rabbis Irving Greenberg and Reuven Firestone each examine the relationship of Judaism to violence, exploring key sources and the history of power, repentance, and reconciliation. From Christianity, philosopher Charles Taylor explores the religious dimensions of "categorical" violence against other faiths, other groups, while Scott Appleby traces the emergence since Vatican II of nonviolence as a foundation of Catholic theology and practice. Mustafa Ceric, Grand Mufti of Bosnia, discusses Muslim support of pluralism and human rights, and Mohamed Fathi Osman examines the relationship between political violence and sacred sources in contemporary Islam. By focusing on transformative powers of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, the essays in this book provide new beginnings for people of faith committed to restoring peace among nations through peace among religions.

Book excerpt: Restoring the Biblical Christ: Is Jesus God? argues that there is one God, the Father (1 Corinthians 8:6), that Jesus was a man (John 8:40) distinct from God (John 7:16-17), but that God revealed himself through Jesus (John 14:10). This position leaves many questions to be answered, like Why does the Bible say Jesus was worshipped? Why is the Word called God in John 1:1? What did Jesus mean when he said, "Before Abraham was, I am"? Did Jesus preexist his humanity? What did the earliest Christians believe about Jesus? Where did the modern beliefs about Jesus come from? All of these questions and more are addressed in detail within Restoring the Biblical Christ: Is Jesus God? This book is jam-packed (over 500 reference notes) with little-known quotes from early Christianity, quotes from respected biblical scholars, and information on the earliest biblical manuscripts, detailing how certain "theologically charged" texts should be translated . One reviewer wrote: "What this book is not is mimetic and unthinking: it is just well-researched, well-cited, eloquently argued, and uncompromisingly Biblical in its orientation. Kerrigan goes where few tread, not for the sake of argument, but for the sake of truth. What you see time and time again is that the Biblical godhead teaching is plainer than what the theologians have been making it."

Book excerpt: In our times of strife and alienation, the author presents a fresh argument for harmony and togetherness. She has a deep understanding of the human mind through ages in which God eternally leaves His unifying marks. Gods Omnipresence binds our ageless humanity on one hand, and on the other, it directs us to His singular message of Unity. The author essentially focuses on the Unity of God, and articulates its dimensions from the vantage point of her Islamic conviction. In so doing, she places other religions vis--vis Islam and vice versa. In keeping with the spirit of Islam, she never indulges in the denigration of the other. She does encounter anti-Islamism that we see in vogue. Her style is unapologetic and straight to the point. She takes the antagonists to the task. But her tone, all throughout, is one of reconciliation. She seeks to make her audience understand her belief-system, i. e. Islam, and in turn, understand the misunderstanding of Islam by her audience. Her audience, obviously, is Western (if not exclusively), and as such, her arguments flourish in the Western context. She does leave room for the watchful non-Western Muslim and non-Muslim readers to get hold of that context. The book addressing timeless issues is quintessentially timely. Muhammad Mashreque has been a professor of English at Allen University, Columbia, SC. Besides, he works with such organizations as uniting adherents of the Faith ( i. e. CAIR), and promoting ethnic-racial harmony ( i.e. SPLC).

Book excerpt: This book, Trialogue of the Abrahamic Faiths, edited by the late Dr. Ismail Raji al-Faruqi is certain to be hailed as a historical milestone in Muslim-Christian-Jewish dialogue. Perhaps not since the early Middle Ages when the grand courts of Damascus, Baghdad, and Qurtubah (Cordova) witnessed numerous dialogues and debates between the adherents of these three Abrahamic faiths, has there been such a successful effort made by religious scholars to communicate with one another on matters of faith and understanding. This book, readers may note, goes beyond the modern-day ostensible studies in comparative religion, and each of the contributing scholars envinces an appreciation and more-than-cursory knowledge of all the three faiths. The authors take up three major topics: The Other Faiths, The Nation-State as a Form of Social Organization, and The Faith-Community as a Transnational Actor for Justice and Peace. Jewish, Christian, and Muslim contributors offer their respective enlightened views on the subjects discussed.

This instinct is certainly borne out by the histories of religious wars, theological polemic, and social exclusion involving Jews, Christians, and Muslims. But there is also another side to the Abrahamic coin. Even in the midst of communal rivalry, Jews, Christians, and Muslim practitioners have frequently turned to each other to think through religious concepts, elucidate sacred history, and enrich their ritual practices. Scholarship often describes these interactions between the Abrahamic monotheisms using metaphors of exchange between individuals-as if one tradition might borrow a theological idea from another in the same way that a neighbor might borrow a recipe. This Element proposes that there are deeper forms of entanglement at work in these historical moments.

It is an untold story of heroism, tragedy, deceit, compassion and prejudice, and an attempt to erase history, creating the greatest cover-up the world has ever known. Whether you are a Jew or a Christian, most everything you believe about Jesus and his movement is incorrect. He was NOT who you think he was.
