RESTORATION AND CONVERSION OF THE JEWS. The history of the Jewish race, their present condition, and their future destiny, together with the peculiar and wonderful circumstances and considerations connected with the subject, stand, for interest and importance, unparalleled and alone. Through them are we possessed of the knowledge of the origin of the human family, and the history of the early ages of the world. Thoy alone, of all the nations of the earth, can trace back their origin to the first of men, our common progenitor, who came forth from the plastic hand of his Maker a model of human perfection. Among them alone was preserved the knowledge of the true and living God, during the lapse of idolatrous ages, when the Gentile world were causing their children to pass through the fire as a sacrilice to Moloch, or prostrating themselves in adoration before a crocodile or a cat, or falling down, at the sound of ravishing music, before a golden god. In their behalf, Jehovah bared his arm in the sight of all nations, pouring out his fury on the land of Ham; cleaving for them a passage through the deep; slaking their thirst in a desert region with water from the flinty rock; allaying their hunger with "angel's" food; and causing even the sun and the moon to stop their career in mid heaven, for the destruction of their foes! Their Moses chronicled history divine, and attuned his lyre to notes of heavenly minstrelsy, and promulged t"he moral code announced by the Deity amid the thunderings and lightnings of Sinai, long ere Sanconiiithon saw the light, or the people of Homer, of Solon, and Lycurgus were numbered among the nations. Their Joshua led Iheir valiant hosts to victory and to i niquost, while as yet the land of the Macedonian hero was...
Book Synopsis Salvation Is from the Jews by : Roy H. Schoeman
Download or read book Salvation Is from the Jews written by Roy H. Schoeman and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2019-04-15 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book traces the role of Judaism and the Jewish people in God's plan for the salvation of mankind, from Abraham through the Second Coming, as revealed by the Catholic faith and by a thoughtful examination of history. It will give Christians a deeper understanding of Judaism, both as a religion in itself and as a central component of Christian salvation. To Jews it reveals the incomprehensible importance, nobility and glory that Judaism most truly has. It examines the unique and central role Judaism plays in the destiny of the world. It documents that throughout history attacks on Jews and Judaism have been rooted not in Christianity, but in the most anti-Christian of forces. Areas addressed include: the Messianic prophecies in Jewish scripture; the anti-Christian roots of Nazi anti-Semitism; the links between Nazism and Arab anti-Semitism; the theological insights of major Jewish converts; and the role of the Jews in the Second Coming. "Perplexed by controversies new and old about the destiny of the Jewish people? Read this book by a Jew who became a Catholic for a well-written, provocative, ground-breaking account. Some of the answers most have never heard before." Ronda Chervin, Ph.D., Hebrew-Catholic

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A historical tour de force, The Invention of the Jewish People offers a groundbreaking account of Jewish and Israeli history. Exploding the myth that there was a forced Jewish exile in the first century at the hands of the Romans, Israeli historian Shlomo Sand argues that most modern Jews descend from converts, whose native lands were scattered across the Middle East and Eastern Europe. In this iconoclastic work, which spent nineteen weeks on the Israeli bestseller list and won the coveted Aujourd'hui Award in France, Sand provides the intellectual foundations for a new vision of Israel's future.
Book Synopsis Christian Zionism and English National Identity, 1600–1850 by : Andrew Crome
Download or read book Christian Zionism and English National Identity, 1600–1850 written by Andrew Crome and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-01 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores why English Christians, from the early modern period onwards, believed that their nation had a special mission to restore the Jews to Palestine. It examines English support for Jewish restoration from the Whitehall Conference in 1655 through to public debates on the Jerusalem Bishopric in 1841. Rather than claiming to replace Israel as God’s “elect nation”, England was “chosen” to have a special, but inferior, relationship with the Jews. Believing that God “blessed those who bless” the Jewish people, this national role allowed England to atone for ill-treatment of Jews, read the confusing pathways of providence, and guarantee the nation’s survival until Christ’s return. This book analyses this mode of national identity construction and its implications for understanding Christian views of Jews, the self, and “the other”. It offers a new understanding of national election, and of the relationship between apocalyptic prophecy and political action.

Book Synopsis The Restoration of Israel by : Gerhard Falk
Download or read book The Restoration of Israel written by Gerhard Falk and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2006 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The restoration of Israel to the Holy Land was originally an English, Protestant idea. Jewish Zionism came later and succeeded only because of the Holocaust. The principal impetus for the promotion of a Jewish return to Zion was religious and began with the translation of the Bible from the Hebrew to English by Tindale. Because literature in the English language depicted Jews almost always in an unfavorable light, both British and American religious and political leaders were ambivalent about Jews. Nevertheless, the religious impulse to restore Israel became political in the twentieth century and succeeded with the establishment of the Jewish state in 1948.
Book Synopsis Conversion in Luke and Paul: An Exegetical and Theological Exploration by : David S. Morlan
Download or read book Conversion in Luke and Paul: An Exegetical and Theological Exploration written by David S. Morlan and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2012-12-20 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study explores the conversion theologies of Luke and Paul. For Luke and Paul conversion played an important role in the early Christian experience and Morlan offers a fresh look into how they interpreted this phenomenon. Morlan traverses representative texts in the Lukan and Pauline corpus equipped with three theological questions. What is the change involved in this conversion? Why is conversion necessary? Who is responsible for conversion? Morlan presents theological and exegetical analysis of Luke 15, Acts 2, Acts 17.16-34, Romans 2 and Romans 9-11 and answers these questions, and, in turn, builds theological profiles for both Luke and Paul. These profiles provide fresh insight into the theological relationship between Luke and Paul, showing significant similarities as well as sharp contrasts between them. Similarities surface between Luke and Paul concerning the centrality of Christology in their conversion theologies. While showing a complex relationship between human and divine agency in conversion, both Luke and Paul understand successful conversion to be impossible without the intervention of an agency outside of the pre-convert.
