Book Synopsis High Performance Computing and Modelling of Composite Manufacturing Processes Such as Resin Transfer Molding by :
Download or read book High Performance Computing and Modelling of Composite Manufacturing Processes Such as Resin Transfer Molding written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus was to understand and model the composite manufacturing process called Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) and develop numerical simulations to move towards virtual manufacturing in an attempt to reduce the prototype costs. Experiments were carried out to understand and isolate the important features of this process and mathematical models were developed to create a process model. These models were incorporated in numerical simulations to make them useful for manufacturing of complex structures. Numerical procedures were also developed in the process to make the simulations stable and faster. The results of numerical simulations were compared with two elaborate experimental programs, a five sided box and a cone, to verify the authenticity of the numerical simulation and the mathematical models. Different versions of the numerical simulation developed are being used at ARL, Aberdeen and by TACOM. This report gives a brief summary of the work and the details of the work are reported as appendices. (MM).

Book excerpt: Resin Transfer Moulding and other similar 'liquid moulding' manufacturing methods have been used to make non-structural composites for the last 35 years. However, in the last eight years these methods have become the subject of enormous interest by aerospace manufacturing companies. Resin Transfer Moulding for Aerospace Structures describes all aspects of Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) for aerospace structures. Written by an international team of experts, from both industry and academia, it is a comprehensive work providing complete and detailed information on the process of RTM from theoretical modelling to practical experience. With subjects including manufacturing, tooling, fabric design and flow modelling all covered, this book is an invaluable up-to-the-minute reference source which provides the reader with a good understanding of RTM and its possible uses, especially for high performance applications. Resin Transfer Moulding for Aerospace Structures is an ideal guide for those in the aerospace and related industries, who want to understand and utilize RTM, as well as those directly involved in the RTM industry.
Book Synopsis Process Modeling in Composites Manufacturing by : Suresh G. Advani
Download or read book Process Modeling in Composites Manufacturing written by Suresh G. Advani and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002-08-28 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a wealth of literature on modeling and simulation of polymer composite manufacturing processes. However, existing books neglect to provide a systematic explanation of how to formulate and apply science-based models in polymer composite manufacturing processes. Process Modeling in Composites Manufacturing, Second Edition provides tangible methods to optimize this process — and it remains a proven, powerful introduction to the basic principles of fluid mechanics and heat transfer. Includes tools to develop an experience base to aid in modeling a composite manufacturing process Building on past developments, this new book updates the previous edition’s coverage of process physics and the state of modeling in the field. Exploring research derived from experience, intuition, and trial and error, the authors illustrate a state-of-the-art understanding of mass, momentum, and energy transfer during composites processing. They introduce computer-based solutions using MATLAB® code and flow simulation-based analysis, which complement closed-form solutions discussed in the book, to help readers understand the role of different material, geometric, and process parameters. This self-contained primer provides an introduction to modeling of composite manufacturing processes for anyone working in material science and engineering, industrial, mechanical, and chemical engineering. It introduces a scientific basis for manufacturing, using solved example problems which employ calculations provided in the book. End-of-chapter questions and problems and fill in the blanks sections reinforce the content in order to develop the experience base of the manufacturing, materials, and design engineer or scientists, as well as seniors and first-year graduate students.

Book Synopsis Mathematical Modeling and Simulation by : Kai Velten
Download or read book Mathematical Modeling and Simulation written by Kai Velten and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-06-01 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise and clear introduction to the topic requires only basic knowledge of calculus and linear algebra - all other concepts and ideas are developed in the course of the book. Lucidly written so as to appeal to undergraduates and practitioners alike, it enables readers to set up simple mathematical models on their own and to interpret their results and those of others critically. To achieve this, many examples have been chosen from various fields, such as biology, ecology, economics, medicine, agricultural, chemical, electrical, mechanical and process engineering, which are subsequently discussed in detail. Based on the author`s modeling and simulation experience in science and engineering and as a consultant, the book answers such basic questions as: What is a mathematical model? What types of models do exist? Which model is appropriate for a particular problem? What are simulation, parameter estimation, and validation? The book relies exclusively upon open-source software which is available to everybody free of charge. The entire book software - including 3D CFD and structural mechanics simulation software - can be used based on a free CAELinux-Live-DVD that is available in the Internet (works on most machines and operating systems).

Book Synopsis Mathematical and Physical Modeling of Materials Processing Operations by : Olusegun Johnso Ilegbusi
Download or read book Mathematical and Physical Modeling of Materials Processing Operations written by Olusegun Johnso Ilegbusi and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-07-29 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past few decades have brought significant advances in the computational methods and in the experimental techniques used to study transport phenomena in materials processing operations. However, the advances have been made independently and with competition between the two approaches. Mathematical models are easier and less costly to implement, but experiments are essential for verifying theoretical models. In Mathematical and Physical Modeling of Materials Processing Operations, the authors bridge the gap between mathematical modelers and experimentalists. They combine mathematical and physical modeling principles for materials processing operations simulation and use numerous examples to compare theoretical and experimental results. The modeling of transport processes is multi-disciplinary, involving concepts and principles not all of which can be associated with just one field of study. Therefore, the authors have taken care to ensure that the text is self-sustaining through the variety and breadth of topics covered. Beyond the usual topics associated with transport phenomena, the authors also include detailed discussion of numerical methods and implementation of process models, software and hardware selection and application, and representation of auxiliary relationships, including turbulence modeling, chemical kinetics, magnetohydrodynamics, and multi-phase flow. They also provide several correlations for representing the boundary conditions of fluid flow, heat transfer, and mass transfer phenomena. Mathematical and Physical Modeling of Materials Processing Operations is ideal for introducing these tools to materials engineers and researchers. Although the book emphasizes materials, some of the topics will prove interesting and useful to researchers in other fields of chemical and mechanical engineering.
