Download or read book All Together Now written by Naomi Cleaver and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-04-30 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pandemic imposed a major shift on how we live and work. National lockdowns eradicated the lines between home, office and school, making conversations around live/work spaces more urgent than ever before. Instead of driving people apart, social distancing, remote working and the reliance on digital communication have led to a huge demand for physical togetherness. How can we design a future that enables greater collaboration, connectivity and social interaction? The trend for shared living spaces is showing no signs of slowing down; collaborative spaces have been hailed as the solution to the 21st century’s culture of overwork, a broken housing market and chronic loneliness, particularly among the elderly. When implemented carefully, considering different degrees and models of sharing, they tackle the question of independence (and its complex relationship with solidarity) and the longevity and power of intergenerational living. A practical and inspirational design guide, this book draws on Naomi Cleaver’s own experience as a designer alongside the work of other experts including Rockwell Group, Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter, Squire and Partners and DH Liberty. Featuring detailed and highly illustrated case studies across co-living and co-working typologies, it takes in new builds and conversions of various sizes that have been implemented internationally. It concludes with a best practice toolkit that provides valuable advice and lessons for designers working at any scale. Case studies include: Humanitas Deventer, The Netherlands K9 Coliving, Sweden Mokrin House, Serbia NeueHouse Hollywood, Los Angeles Outpost Ubud Penestanan, Bali The Project at Hoxton, London. Foreword by Professor Sadie Morgan OBE, Director of dRMM and Chair of the Quality of Life Foundation.

Book Synopsis Homes for Our Time. Contemporary Houses Around the World by : Philip Jodidio
Download or read book Homes for Our Time. Contemporary Houses Around the World written by Philip Jodidio and published by . This book was released on 2019-01-12 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Across small cottages and lavish villas, beach houses and forest refuges, discover the world's finest crop of new homes. This cutting-edge global digest features such talents as Shigeru Ban, MVRDV, and Marcio Kogan alongside up-and-coming names like Aires Mateus, Xu Fu-Min, Vo Trong Nghia, Desai Chia, and Shunri Nishizawa. Here, there are homes in Australia and New Zealand, from China and Vietnam, in the United States and Mexico, and on to less expected places like Ecuador and Costa Rica. The result is a sweeping survey of the contemporary house and a revelation that homes across the globe may have more in common than expected. Among guava trees and abandoned forts in Western India is a sanctuary designed for and by Kamal Malik of Malik Architecture. The House of Three Streams is a sprawling spectacle with high ceilings, verandas, and pavilions, perched atop a ridge overlooking two ravines. A medley of steel, glass, wood, and stone, the house weaves along the contour of the landscape, almost as an extension of the forest. Encina House by Aranguren & Gallegos, an elegant, sloping structure reminiscent of a gazebo, similarly inhabits its surrounding vista. Ensconced in a pine forest north of Madrid, the lower level is embedded in rock and connected to the upper by a natural stone wall. Shinichi Ogawa's Seaside House is an immaculate two-story minimalist marvel in Kanagawa that overlooks the Pacific. Its living area spills onto a cantilevered terrace and infinity pool, almost dissolving into the ocean as one seamless entity. In Vietnam, Shunri Nishizawa's House in Chau Doc exudes tropical sophistication with exposed timber beams, woven bamboo, plants, concrete panels, and inner balconies and terraces. Its corrugated iron panels act as moveable walls and shutters, ushering in views of surrounding rice fields. These homes--along with more than 50 others--are each remarkably distinct in design. They all, however, toe the line between inside and outside, each one symbiotic with its surroundings.
