Download or read book Debt Management in India written by Charan Singh and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-04-19 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive analysis of the implications of rising public debt in India. It specifically investigates the implications of domestic debt on consumption, the effect of monetised debt on prices, the long-term relationship between domestic debt and growth, and the separation of debt and monetary management. It studies data on debt in India from 1951 to 2017, and covers a wide canvas of issues related to debt management and important developments in the government securities market. It discusses trends in domestic debt, and provides a descriptive review of the major components of public debt. The book presents a close theoretical discussion on the Ricardian equivalence hypothesis, an important concept both historically and in contemporary literature on public debt. The implications of domestic debt delineated in the objectives are empirically analysed.

Book Synopsis From “Hindu Growth” to Productivity Surge by : Mr.Dani Rodrik
Download or read book From “Hindu Growth” to Productivity Surge written by Mr.Dani Rodrik and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2004-05-01 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper explores the causes of India's productivity surge around 1980, more than a decade before serious economic reforms were initiated. Trade liberalization, expansionary demand, a favorable external environment, and improved agricultural performance did not play a role. We find evidence that the trigger may have been an attitudinal shift by the government in the early 1980s that unlike the reforms of the 1990s, was probusiness rather than promarket in character, favoring the interests of existing businesses rather than new entrants or consumers. A relatively small shift elicited a large productivity response, because India was far away from its income-possibility frontier. Registered manufacturing, which had been built up in previous decades, played an important role in determining which states took advantage of the changed environment.
Book Synopsis Banking and Debt Recovery in Emerging Markets by : Sonali Abeyratne
Download or read book Banking and Debt Recovery in Emerging Markets written by Sonali Abeyratne and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-04 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2001. A developing country that is pursuing free market economic policies requires a modern commercial law infrastructure, which enables the emerging economy to have in place properly functioning credit and other financial systems which stimulate domestic and foreign investment. This book provides a comparative analysis of the law and practice of debt recovery in India, Sri Lanka and Malaysia, demonstrating that a suitable debt-recovery system for a developing economy requires not only good laws and judicial remedies, but also appropriate financial industry practices such as credit and loan supervision policies.

Book Synopsis The Global Findex Database 2017 by : Asli Demirguc-Kunt
Download or read book The Global Findex Database 2017 written by Asli Demirguc-Kunt and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2018-04-19 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2011 the World Bank—with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation—launched the Global Findex database, the world's most comprehensive data set on how adults save, borrow, make payments, and manage risk. Drawing on survey data collected in collaboration with Gallup, Inc., the Global Findex database covers more than 140 economies around the world. The initial survey round was followed by a second one in 2014 and by a third in 2017. Compiled using nationally representative surveys of more than 150,000 adults age 15 and above in over 140 economies, The Global Findex Database 2017: Measuring Financial Inclusion and the Fintech Revolution includes updated indicators on access to and use of formal and informal financial services. It has additional data on the use of financial technology (or fintech), including the use of mobile phones and the Internet to conduct financial transactions. The data reveal opportunities to expand access to financial services among people who do not have an account—the unbanked—as well as to promote greater use of digital financial services among those who do have an account. The Global Findex database has become a mainstay of global efforts to promote financial inclusion. In addition to being widely cited by scholars and development practitioners, Global Findex data are used to track progress toward the World Bank goal of Universal Financial Access by 2020 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The database, the full text of the report, and the underlying country-level data for all figures—along with the questionnaire, the survey methodology, and other relevant materials—are available at www.worldbank.org/globalfindex.
