D., 1870, and the several petitions and other papers before the House, relating to the affairs of the tribe of Narragansett Indians, living in Charlestown, desire to submit the following report: - Your committee have given three public hearings, to wit: at the Indian Meeting House, in Charlestown, Wednesday, July 30, 1879; in Card's Hall, Cross' Mills, Charlestown, Wednesday, August 13, 1879, and again, in the Indian Meeting House, Friday, October 31, 1879. The meetings were well attended by members of the tribe, prominent citizens of Charlestown, including a committee of conference appointed by their Town Council, people from the surrounding towns and from various parts of the State. The subject and questions involved were discussed by members of the tribe and by citizens present from many localities, (See Report of Evidence in Appendix B.)
