Book Synopsis Advances in Rings, Modules and Factorizations by : Alberto Facchini
Download or read book Advances in Rings, Modules and Factorizations written by Alberto Facchini and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-02 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Occasioned by the international conference "Rings and Factorizations" held in February 2018 at University of Graz, Austria, this volume represents a wide range of research trends in the theory of commutative and non-commutative rings and their modules, including multiplicative ideal theory, Dedekind and Krull rings and their generalizations, rings of integer valued-polynomials, topological aspects of ring theory, factorization theory in rings and semigroups and direct-sum decompositions of modules. The volume will be of interest to researchers seeking to extend or utilize work in these areas as well as graduate students wishing to find entryways into active areas of current research in algebra. A novel aspect of the volume is an emphasis on how diverse types of algebraic structures and contexts (rings, modules, semigroups, categories) may be treated with overlapping and reinforcing approaches.

Book Synopsis Bimonoids for Hyperplane Arrangements by : Marcelo Aguiar
Download or read book Bimonoids for Hyperplane Arrangements written by Marcelo Aguiar and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-03-19 with total page 853 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this monograph is to develop Hopf theory in a new setting which features centrally a real hyperplane arrangement. The new theory is parallel to the classical theory of connected Hopf algebras, and relates to it when specialized to the braid arrangement. Joyal's theory of combinatorial species, ideas from Tits' theory of buildings, and Rota's work on incidence algebras inspire and find a common expression in this theory. The authors introduce notions of monoid, comonoid, bimonoid, and Lie monoid relative to a fixed hyperplane arrangement. They also construct universal bimonoids by using generalizations of the classical notions of shuffle and quasishuffle, and establish the Borel-Hopf, Poincar -Birkhoff-Witt, and Cartier-Milnor-Moore theorems in this setting. This monograph opens a vast new area of research. It will be of interest to students and researchers working in the areas of hyperplane arrangements, semigroup theory, Hopf algebras, algebraic Lie theory, operads, and category theory.
Book Synopsis A Handbook of Model Categories by : Scott Balchin
Download or read book A Handbook of Model Categories written by Scott Balchin and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-29 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book outlines a vast array of techniques and methods regarding model categories, without focussing on the intricacies of the proofs. Quillen model categories are a fundamental tool for the understanding of homotopy theory. While many introductions to model categories fall back on the same handful of canonical examples, the present book highlights a large, self-contained collection of other examples which appear throughout the literature. In particular, it collects a highly scattered literature into a single volume. The book is aimed at anyone who uses, or is interested in using, model categories to study homotopy theory. It is written in such a way that it can be used as a reference guide for those who are already experts in the field. However, it can also be used as an introduction to the theory for novices.
Book Synopsis On Operads, Bimodules and Analytic Functors by : Nicola Gambino
Download or read book On Operads, Bimodules and Analytic Functors written by Nicola Gambino and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2017-09-25 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors develop further the theory of operads and analytic functors. In particular, they introduce the bicategory of operad bimodules, that has operads as -cells, operad bimodules as -cells and operad bimodule maps as 2-cells, and prove that it is cartesian closed. In order to obtain this result, the authors extend the theory of distributors and the formal theory of monads.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This IMA Volume in Mathematics and its Applications TOWARDS HIGHER CATEGORIES contains expository and research papers based on a highly successful IMA Summer Program on n-Categories: Foundations and Applications. We are grateful to all the participants for making this occasion a very productive and stimulating one. We would like to thank John C. Baez (Department of Mathematics, University of California Riverside) and J. Peter May (Department of Ma- ematics, University of Chicago) for their superb role as summer program organizers and editors of this volume. We take this opportunity to thank the National Science Foundation for its support of the IMA. Series Editors Fadil Santosa, Director of the IMA Markus Keel, Deputy Director of the IMA v PREFACE DEDICATED TO MAX KELLY, JUNE 5 1930 TO JANUARY 26 2007. This is not a proceedings of the 2004 conference “n-Categories: Fo- dations and Applications” that we organized and ran at the IMA during the two weeks June 7–18, 2004! We thank all the participants for helping make that a vibrant and inspiring occasion. We also thank the IMA sta? for a magni?cent job. There has been a great deal of work in higher c- egory theory since then, but we still feel that it is not yet time to o?er a volume devoted to the main topic of the conference.
Book Synopsis 2-Dimensional Categories by : Niles Johnson
Download or read book 2-Dimensional Categories written by Niles Johnson and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-01-31 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Category theory emerged in the 1940s in the work of Samuel Eilenberg and Saunders Mac Lane. It describes relationships between mathematical structures. Outside of pure mathematics, category theory is an important tool in physics, computer science, linguistics, and a quickly-growing list of other sciences. This book is about 2-dimensional categories, which add an extra dimension of richness and complexity to category theory. 2-Dimensional Categories is an introduction to 2-categories and bicategories, assuming only the most elementary aspects of category theory. A review of basic category theory is followed by a systematic discussion of 2-/bicategories, pasting diagrams, lax functors, 2-/bilimits, the Duskin nerve, 2-nerve, internal adjunctions, monads in bicategories, 2-monads, biequivalences, the Bicategorical Yoneda Lemma, and the Coherence Theorem for bicategories. Grothendieck fibrations and the Grothendieck construction are discussed next, followed by tricategories, monoidal bicategories, the Gray tensor product, and double categories. Completely detailed proofs of several fundamental but hard-to-find results are presented for the first time. With exercises and plenty of motivation and explanation, this book is useful for both beginners and experts.
