These guidelines are not an overarching work on inland fisheries management, nor do they provide advice on the environmental aspects or competing uses of inland water bodies. The consultation found co-management systems seemed the most viable option for this region, and that therefore the FAO should issue guidelines for the greater development and introduction of co-management.
