Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artificial intelligence, or AI, has become a ubiquitous part of our lives. Hardly a day goes by without hearing or reading about AI and the impacts it is having on society. Up until now, industry has led the charge in developing and implementing AI technologies to help achieve commercial goals. However, the public sector is increasingly turning to AI technologies to carry out its functions, develop and inform policy, and deliver services to its citizens. How governments and regulators respond to technological and social developments in AI will have a large and lasting impact on our society. We need to encourage worthwhile technological innovation, but we need to do so with our eyes open. This requires us to be alert to the far-reaching effects AI can have. We all have a role to play in determining what the society in which we want to live looks like. https://ovic.vic.gov.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/closer-to-the-machine-web.pdf
Book Synopsis The Global Journalist in the 21st Century by : David H. Weaver
Download or read book The Global Journalist in the 21st Century written by David H. Weaver and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-10-25 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Global Journalist in the 21st Century systematically assesses the demographics, education, socialization, professional attitudes and working conditions of journalists in various countries around the world. This book updates the original Global Journalist (1998) volume with new data, adding more than a dozen countries, and provides material on comparative research about journalists that will be useful to those interested in doing their own studies. The editors put together this collection working under the assumption that journalists’ backgrounds, working conditions and ideas are related to what is reported (and how it is covered) in the various news media round the world, in spite of societal and organizational constraints, and that this news coverage matters in terms of world public opinion and policies. Outstanding features include: Coverage of 33 nations located around the globe, based on recent surveys conducted among representative samples of local journalists Comprehensive analyses by well-known media scholars from each country A section on comparative studies of journalists An appendix with a collection of survey questions used in various nations to question journalists As the most comprehensive and reliable source on journalists around the world, The Global Journalist will serve as the primary source for evaluating the state of journalism. As such, it promises to become a standard reference among journalism, media, and communication students and researchers around the world.

Download or read book Realizing Indigenous Women's Rights written by Eleanor Dictaan-Bang-oa and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is an introduction to the human rights of indigenous women. It provides details on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) as the only instrument specifically for women. It also provides a brief overview of the other available human rights mechanisms. The handbook is divided into four chapters: Chapter I provides a brief overview of the particular situations of indigenous women in Asia. Chapter II deals with the principles of human rights and the international human rights instruments providing for the rights of women. Chapter III presents the different mechanisms and possible options that indigenous women may take to seek redress for discrimination or violence. The final section, Chapter IV, provides a selection of previous jurisprudence from CEDAW that may assist in making arguments for future submissions to that body, or to national and other international legal instruments. We offer this handbook to indigenous women, particularly in the Asian region whose experiences and situations in their countries, we have attempted to reflect in this publication.

Book Synopsis Voices Against Violence [electronic Resource] by : Lucy Healey
Download or read book Voices Against Violence [electronic Resource] written by Lucy Healey and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Voices Against Violence Research Project was cross-sectoral, undertaken between WDV, OPA and DVRCV. The project investigated the circumstances of women with disabilities of any kind (including physical disabilities, sensory disabilities, mental ill health and cognitive impairments) who have experienced violence. This paper is one of a series of publications for the Voices Against Violence Research Project. This paper examines the nature and extent of violence against women with disabilities and the barriers to services faced by women with disabilities who have experienced violence. It also explores promising initiatives being run in Victoria that may help repair the harm and prevent the injustice of violence in the first place. The intersections of gender, violence, disability and structural disadvantage are central to understanding violence against women with disabilities. On all measures of social and economic participation, people with disabilities are significantly disadvantaged and can experience the violation of their human rights. This is particularly acute for women with disabilities due to gender discrimination, heightened by the risks of poverty and violence. This paper builds on work undertaken by WDV, OPA and DVRCV and draws on recent research on violence against women with disabilities in order to highlight the need for Victoria?s disability sector to better understand the gendered dynamic of violence and for the family violence?sexual assault sector (including criminal justice services) to better understand disability-based violence. It advocates for sustained, multi-sectoral engagement across Victoria?s human and justice services to support prevention initiatives and improved identification of, and responses to, women with disabilities who experience violence regardless of whether they live in the community or in institutions. This work is based on the critical need to give attention to gender and disability and other layers of disadvantage when analysing, preventing and responding to violence. Without this multi-layered focus, women with disabilities will continue to live with an increased risk of experiencing violence and experiencing barriers to justice and community services.
