This book was released on 2012 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The school and district report cards were created by the 1999 Oregon Legislature. The legislation requires that the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) produce and issue a report card to all public schools and districts in the state. The report cards are designed to: (1) Communicate the many good things occurring in Oregon's public schools; (2) Provide a fair and reliable means of reporting ratings of current school performance and improvement over time; and (3) Demonstrate to the public that the schools are accountable for their work. Oregon Revised Statute (ORS) 329.105 lists information that is required to be included in these performance reports. The report cards also display additional data in order to meet the reporting requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2002, which reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. ODE is committed to making the report card a valuable tool for parents, educators, and community members throughout the state. This policy and technical manual is a compilation of the policies, processes, strategies, and timelines that relate to producing and improving the report card. This manual is updated annually to provide the latest information about policies and timelines. A list of Oregon School Report Card resources is included. Two appendices are included: (1) School Report Card Data Elements; and (2) District Report Card Data Elements.

Their work provides a faculty with the research, step-by-step guidelines, and reporting templates to begin the dialogue to develop a standards-based report card. Without a doubt, this work is a model for schools that want to improve their system of grading and reporting. It certainly has transformed ours!" —Jeffrey Erickson, Assistant Principal Minnetonka High School, MN Develop standards-based report cards that are meaningful to students, parents, and educators! Although schools have moved toward standards-based curriculum and instruction, grading practices and reporting systems have remained largely unchanged. Helping school leaders gain support for transitioning from traditional to standards-based report cards, this book guides educators in aligning assessment and reporting practices with standards-based education and providing more detailed reports of children′s learning and achievement. A standards-based report card breaks down each subject area into specific elements of learning to offer parents and educators a more thorough description of each child′s progress toward proficiency. This accessible volume: Provides a clear framework for developing standards-based report cards Shows how to communicate with parents, students, and other stakeholders about changes Illustrates how to achieve grading consistency without increasing teachers′ workloads or violating their professional autonomy Filled with examples of standards-based report cards that can be adapted to a school′s needs, this practical resource shows district and school administrators how to establish reporting practices that facilitate learning.

Book excerpt: "Joe Feldman shows us how we can use grading to help students become the leaders of their own learning and lift the veil on how to succeed. . . . This must-have book will help teachers learn to implement improved, equity-focused grading for impact." —Zaretta Hammond, Author of Culturally Responsive Teaching & The Brain Crack open the grading conversation Here at last—and none too soon—is a resource that delivers the research base, tools, and courage to tackle one of the most challenging and emotionally charged conversations in today’s schools: our inconsistent grading practices and the ways they can inadvertently perpetuate the achievement and opportunity gaps among our students. With Grading for Equity, Joe Feldman cuts to the core of the conversation, revealing how grading practices that are accurate, bias-resistant, and motivational will improve learning, minimize grade inflation, reduce failure rates, and become a lever for creating stronger teacher-student relationships and more caring classrooms. Essential reading for schoolwide and individual book study or for student advocates, Grading for Equity provides A critical historical backdrop, describing how our inherited system of grading was originally set up as a sorting mechanism to provide or deny opportunity, control students, and endorse a "fixed mindset" about students’ academic potential—practices that are still in place a century later A summary of the research on motivation and equitable teaching and learning, establishing a rock-solid foundation and a "true north" orientation toward equitable grading practices Specific grading practices that are more equitable, along with teacher examples, strategies to solve common hiccups and concerns, and evidence of effectiveness Reflection tools for facilitating individual or group engagement and understanding As Joe writes, "Grading practices are a mirror not just for students, but for us as their teachers." Each one of us should start by asking, "What do my grading practices say about who I am and what I believe?" Then, let’s make the choice to do things differently . . . with Grading for Equity as a dog-eared reference.

Book excerpt: California State Proposition 98 requires the governing boards of California school districts to prepare and issue an annual School Accountability Report Card for each elementary and high school under their jurisdiction, beginning in the school year 1989-90. The report card must assess a minimum of 13 specified conditions. This manual provides technical assistance and examples of what report cards for individual schools might contain and how they might be developed. Guidelines for preparing a model report card are provided in the appendix to this manual. Although it is not limited to these areas, each report card must address the following school conditions: (1) student achievement in and progress toward meeting reading, writing, arithmetic, and other academic goals; (2) progress toward reducing dropout rates; (3) estimated expenditures per student and types of services funded; (4) progress toward reducing class sizes and teaching loads; (5) assignment of teachers outside their subject areas of competence; (6) quality and currency of textbooks and other instructional materials; (7) counseling and support personnel availability; (8) substitute teacher availability; (9) safety, cleanliness, and adequacy of school facilities; (10) adequacy of teacher evaluations and professional improvement opportunities; (11) classroom discipline and climate for learning; (12) teacher and staff training and curriculum improvement programs; and (13) quality of instruction and leadership.
