Book Synopsis Modern Legal Drafting by : Peter Butt
Download or read book Modern Legal Drafting written by Peter Butt and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-10-23 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the second edition of this highly regarded text, the authors show how and why traditional legal language has developed the peculiar characteristics that make legal documents inaccessible to the end users. Incorporating recent research and case law, the book provides a critical examination of case law and the rules of interpretation. Detailed case studies illustrate how obtuse or outdated words, phrases and concepts can be rewritten, reworked or removed altogether. Particularly useful is the step-by-step guide to drafting in the modern style, using examples from four types of common legal documents: leases, company constitutions, wills and conveyances. Readers will gain an appreciation of the historical influences on drafting practice and the use of legal terminology. They will learn about the current moves to reform legal language, and receive clear instruction on how to make their writing clearer and their legal documents more useful.
Book Synopsis The Windsor Report 2004 by : Lambeth Commission on Communion
Download or read book The Windsor Report 2004 written by Lambeth Commission on Communion and published by Morehouse Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lambeth Commission, established by the Archbishop of Canterbury, was charged with examining the legal and theological implications flowing from the Episcopal Church's decision to appoint a priest in a committed same sex relationship as a bishop and the Canadian Diocese of New Westminster's authorization of services for same sex unions. It was also charged with examining and making practical suggestions about how the provinces of the Anglican Communion may relate when they feel unable to remain in full communion with one another. The report focuses on reconciliation. The Primates' Standing Committee of the Anglican Communion called the commission's unanimous endorsement of the report "a sign of hope." "If there is a real desire to walk together in our discipleship of Christ," the Primates' Committee said in a statement, "then a course can be plotted to maintain the highest degree of Communion possible, in spite of differences about the way in which Christ's Gospel is to be interpreted in a diverse and troubled world."
Book Synopsis Open public services by : Great Britain: Cabinet Office
Download or read book Open public services written by Great Britain: Cabinet Office and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2011-07-11 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This White paper puts forward a comprehensive policy framework across public services. It sets out the principles for reforming public services and how they apply to existing policies. It also, crucially, outlines a range of wider ambitions for further consultation. The Government plans to follow five principles for modernising public services: wherever possible choice will be increased; public services should be decentralised to the lowest possible level; public services should be open to a range of providers; ensuring fair access to public services and that public services should be accountable to users and to taxpayers. In applying these principles it is recognised that different public services have different characteristics and the proposals are tailored accordingly. In essence, three different categories of public services are identified: individual services; neighbourhood services; and commissioned services. For individual services the aim is to put power in the hands of the people who use them; for neighbourhood services the aim is to put power in the hands of the elected councils; and for commissioned services, the intention is to open up and, where appropriate, decentralise commissioning to ensure greater quality and diversity.

Book Synopsis Self-Censorship and the Struggle for Press Freedom in Hong Kong by : Anne Cheung
Download or read book Self-Censorship and the Struggle for Press Freedom in Hong Kong written by Anne Cheung and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-11-01 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since it was first known that Hong Kong would become China's "Special Administrative Region", there has been growing concern over the protection of the freedom of the press in this oriental city. The anxiety is, however, not confined to the fear that the new sovereign might rule Hong Kong under an iron fist. Rather, many believe that the locals are apparently surrendering their freedom by practicing self-censorship, a mechanism of anticipatory avoidance of sanctions. This book asks: what does self-censorship mean to Hong Kong at the time of political and historical juncture? It argues that self-censorship is a strategic game of coordination when both the ruler and the subjects are making use of the fluid boundaries in local and international politics. Rich in anecdotes, historical details and legal analysis, this book depicts the game of Chuin shadow-boxing where promises, threats and bluffs are exchanged. Winning, for either side, calls for the skilful manipulation of voice and silence at all levels.
