This book was released on 2014-03-11 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report The Inquiries Act 2005: Post-legislative Scrutiny (HL143) finds that the government is not using the legislation passed in the Inquiries Act 2005 enough, and is setting up inquiries with inadequate powers. The Committee urges the government to set up a Central Inquiries Unit to make the most of any lessons learned from past inquiries, and make the best use of collective knowledge and proficiency in this field. The unit would be a new center of expertise, which would enable future inquiries to hit the ground running while also being more efficient, more streamlined and less costly to the public. Overall the Inquiries Act 2005 is robust and effective, but the government is not using it in the way it should be. By setting up public inquiries outside of the Act, the government is creating inquiries which have inadequate powers to do their job. On 6 March 2014, the Home Secretary announced a judge-led inquiry into undercover policing, but did not say

This book was released on 2013-10-29 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Code of Practice for Victims of Crime forms a key part of the wider Government strategy to transform the criminal justice system by putting victims first, making the system more responsive and easier to navigate. Victims of crime should be treated in a respectful, sensitive and professional manner without discrimination of any kind. They should receive appropriate support to help them, as far as possible, to cope and recover and be protected from re-victimisation. It is important that victims of crime know what information and support is available to them from reporting a crime onwards and who to request help from if they are not getting it. This Code sets out the services to be provided to victims of criminal conduct by criminal justice organisations in England and Wales. Criminal conduct is behaviour constituting a criminal offence under the National Crime Recording Standard. Service providers may provide support and services in line with this Code on a discretionary basis if the offence does not fall under the National Crime Recording Standard (NCRS) (see the glossary of key terms found at the end of this Code). Non-NCRS offences include drink driving and careless driving. This Code also sets a minimum standard for these services. Criminal justice organisations can choose to offer additional services and victims can choose to receive services tailored to their individual needs that fall below the minimum stand

Book Synopsis Transforming the CJS by : Great Britain. Ministry of Justice
Download or read book Transforming the CJS written by Great Britain. Ministry of Justice and published by Stationery Office/Tso. This book was released on 2013-06-01 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper builds on earlier policy papers: 'Getting it right for victims and witnesses' (Cm. 8288, 2012, ISBN 9780101828826) and 'Swift and sure justice' (Cm. 8388, 2012, ISBN 9780101838825). It sets out how the Government plans to deliver a criminal justice system (CJS) designed to achieve a set of outcomes: to reduce crime; to reduce re-offending; to punish offenders; to protect the public; to provide victims with reparation; to increase public confidence, and to ensure the system is fair and just. Supporting these outcomes is: a digital CJS; a CJS which is faster and right first time; a transparent and responsive CJS; care and consideration for victims and witnesses; the right response to crime; working in partnership. Individual chapters expand on these areas, and target dates for completion of key actions are set out. The Criminal Justice Board will maintain an overview of all major reforms to the CJS, ensuring that they form a coherent package, refresh the action plan in summer 2014 and publish an update to show progress made.
