Los cuidados culturales posteriores al establecimiento de la planta y los criterios de calidad y elección del material forestal de reproducción completan el conjunto de operaciones descritas. Como en todos los módulos formativos, se presenta la normativa básica a nivel europeo, nacional y de cada comunidad autónoma en relación con los proyectos de repoblación. Operaciones en Repoblaciones Forestales forma parte del Módulo Formativo (MF1125_2) del Certificado de profesionalidad (AGAR0208): Repoblaciones forestales y tratamientos selvícolas, cuyo contenido está adaptado al Real Decreto 682/2011, de 13 de mayo, que regula los Certificados de Profesionalidad en la Familia Agraria. Este libro pretende preparar a los profesionales forestales para que adquieran las competencias profesionales necesarias para el desarrollo de su trabajo. Asimismo, se trata de hacer llegar a cualquier lector la necesidad de repoblar para mejorar el medio en el que vivimos, sabiendo que los bosques que plantamos ahora serán los sumideros de CO2, los productores de madera, los protectores de los ciclos hidrológicos y el lugar de esparcimiento de las generaciones venideras.

Seed dormancy allows seeds to overcome harsh periods of seedling establishment, and is also important for plant agriculture and crop yield. Several processes are involved in the induction of dormancy and in the shift from the dormant to the germinating state, and hormones and regulatory genetic networks are among the critical factors driving these complex processes. Germination can be prevented by different factors leading to seed dormancy, which is highly dependent on environmental cues. During and after germination, early seedling growth is sustained by catabolism of stored reserves (proteins, lipids, or starch) accumulated during seed maturation, supporting cell morphogenesis, chloroplast development, and root growth until photo-auxotrophic growth can be resumed.

During the first 300 years of Spanish settlement, sugar plantations arose primarily in areas where forests had been cleared by the royal navy, which maintained an interest in management and conservation for the shipbuilding industry. The sugar planters won a decisive victory in 1815, however, when they were allowed to clear extensive forests, without restriction, for cane fields and sugar production. This book is the first to consider Cuba's vital sugar industry through the lens of environmental history.
