This book was released on 1976 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes recent progress in the development and improvement of tunable laser systems for novel approaches to atomic and molecular spectroscopy, and in particular for new precision studies of atomic hydrogen. It reports on: (a) The development of a highly monochromatic, powerful tunable dye laser system, combining a single-frequency cw dye laser oscillator with a multistage pulsed dye laser amplifier. (b) The generation of cw single-frequency coherent radiation near 243 angstrom by summing the frequencies of a Kr ion laser and a cw dye laser in cooled ADP. In addition, the report summarizes three experiment, exploring new coherent light techniques for sensitive high resolution spectroscopy of atoms and molecules. These are (c) The first demonstration of Doppler-free laser polarization spectroscopy, a new technique, which can greatly exceed the sensitivity of saturated absorption spectroscopy. The Stark splitting of the hydrogen Balmer beta line in a glow discharge has been resolved. (d) A demonstration of polarization labeling of molecular sodium This new technique simplifies the unraveling of complex absorption spectra by identifying lines with a common lower state. (e) High resolution two-photon spectroscopy of the excited state of normal and deuterated benzene. The observed rotational contours have been reported by computer fits, yielding accurate molecular constants.

Book Synopsis Reeds Introductions: Essential Sensing and Telecommunications for Marine Engineering Applications by : Christopher Lavers
Download or read book Reeds Introductions: Essential Sensing and Telecommunications for Marine Engineering Applications written by Christopher Lavers and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-03-09 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reeds Introductions: Essential Sensing and Telecommunications for Maritime Applications covers all fundamental and essential theoretical maritime physics principles which underpin modern marine sensors and telecommunications devices as needed by marine users such as: Navy, Coastguard, Merchant Shipping and users of pleasure craft. For safety at sea, it is vital that maritime users have at least a basic understanding of the key concepts upon which many essential modern sea-going sensors and communications devices now operate. Knowledge regarding electromagnetic waves and electromagnetic devices is an established merchant navy sea service requirement, particularly for the Standards in Training and Certification in Watchkeeping (STCW95) qualification in various Maritime Coastguard Agency exams, but it is also a practical matter for the amateur as well. This vital introductory book is written as simply as possible to educate an increasing number of maritime users who wish to become familiar and competent with the latest technologies as well as a growing number of overseas students for whom English is not their first language. This volume provides a comprehensive study of maritime sensors and telecommunications principles and provides a firm foundation prior to reading and studying textbooks in the Reeds Marine Engineering series. Students having read this easy-to-read volume will be better prepared for the more in depth study of that series.

Book Synopsis Newton And Modern Physics by : Peter Rowlands
Download or read book Newton And Modern Physics written by Peter Rowlands and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2017-08-07 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at how Newton's theories can be linked to modern day problems and solutions in physics. Newton created an abstract system of theorizing which has been applied to all aspects of the physical world, however he had difficulties in persuading his contemporaries of its unique merits. A detailed study of Newton's writings, published and unpublished, suggests that he had an almost archetypally powerful mode of thinking guaranteed to produce 'correct' results even in areas of physics where systematic study only began long after his time. Newton and Modern Physics investigates this phenomenon, looking at examples of where Newton's principles have relevance to modern day thinking — the study of Newton's work in both seventeenth century and present-day contexts helps to enhance our understanding of both.
