Book Synopsis Resilient Modulus Testing for Pavement Components by : Mary Stroup-Gardiner
Download or read book Resilient Modulus Testing for Pavement Components written by Mary Stroup-Gardiner and published by ASTM International. This book was released on 2003 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Resilient modulus indicates the stiffness of a soil under controlled confinement conditions and repeated loading. The test is intended to simulate the stress conditions that occur in the base and subgrade of a pavement system. Resilient modulus has been adopted by the U.S. federal highway administration as the primary performance parameter for pavement design. We thank those who prepared these papers, the reviewers who provided anonymous peer reviews, and those who participated in the symposium. We hope this STP encourages more work to improve the testing standard and the value of the Resilient Modulus test."

Book Synopsis Determination of Resilient Modulus Values for Typical Plastic Soils in Wisconsin by : Hani Hasan Titi
Download or read book Determination of Resilient Modulus Values for Typical Plastic Soils in Wisconsin written by Hani Hasan Titi and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of this research are to establish a resilient modulus test results database and to develop correlations for estimating the resilient modulus of Wisconsin fine-grained soils from basic soil properties. A laboratory testing program was conducted on representative Wisconsin fine-grained soils to evaluate their physical and compaction properties. The resilient modulus of the investigated soils was determined from the repeated load triaxial (RLT) test following the AASHTO T307 procedure. The laboratory testing program produced a high-quality and consistent test results database.
Book Synopsis Base Compaction Specification Feasibility Analysis by :
Download or read book Base Compaction Specification Feasibility Analysis written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this research is to establish the technical engineering and cost analysis concepts that will enable WisDOT management to objectively evaluate the feasibility of switching construction specification philosophies for aggregate base. In order to accomplish this goal, field and laboratory testing programs were conducted on existing HMA pavements and on base layers under construction as well as comprehensive survey was conducted on highway agencies practices pertaining to base layer construction in the U.S. and Canada. This research proposed construction specifications for aggregate base course layers.

Book Synopsis Pre-failure Deformation Behaviour of Geomaterials by : R. J. Jardine
Download or read book Pre-failure Deformation Behaviour of Geomaterials written by R. J. Jardine and published by Thomas Telford. This book was released on 1998 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past fifteen years experimental and theoretical characterisation of the pre-failure deformation properties of geomaterials has developed enormously. In recognition of these important research developments a Geotechnique Symposium in Print (SIP) was held at the Institution of Civil Engineers in 1997. This volume brings together the nineteen Geotechnique SIP papers which summarise the recent developments in measuring and understanding the pre-failure stress-strain-time properties of natural soils, and apply this information to practical engineering problems.

Book Synopsis Ground Freezing by : Hans L. Jessberger
Download or read book Ground Freezing written by Hans L. Jessberger and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in Geotechnical Engineering Volume 26: Ground Freezing presents the proceedings of the First International Symposium on Ground Freezing, held in Bochum, Germany on March 8-10, 1978. It summarizes progress in the application of the ground freezing technique in geotechnical engineering, with a focus on engineering with frozen soils and related frost research problems. It includes papers that discuss phase transformation of water, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, and mathematical models. The laboratory and theoretical studies of thermophysical and mechanical properties are discussed as well. Organized into 43 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the freezing and thawing of soils, earth, and rock, and the engineering applications of the favorable properties of frozen ground. It then discusses the mechanical properties of artificially frozen soil for construction purposes, the principles of mechanical and thermal behavior of frozen soil, and the design and calculation of frozen soil-structures. Furthermore, it explains the calculation and dimensioning of refrigeration plants and monitoring of frost penetration. The methods and instrumentation for determining the locations of boundaries of frozen soils and the factors affecting the formation of soil cryogenic textures upon artificial active and passive soil freezing are described. The book also details the influence of salts in the pore water in freezing soils and explains how clay microstructure affects the amount of unfrozen water. In addition, it presents the physicomechanical and thermomechanical properties of frozen coarse-grained soil with sandy clay aggregate. This book will be a valuable source of information for scientists and engineers.
