Book Synopsis Remote Sensing in Hydrology and Water Management by : Gert A. Schultz
Download or read book Remote Sensing in Hydrology and Water Management written by Gert A. Schultz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides comprehensive information on possible applications of remote sensing data for hydrological monitoring and modelling as well as for water management decisions. Mathematical theory is provided only as far as it is necessary for understanding the underlying principles. The book is especially timely because of new programs and sensors that are or will be realised. ESA, NASA, NASDA as well as the Indian and the Brazilian Space Agency have recently launched satellites or developed plans for new sensor systems that will be especially pertinent to hydrology and water management. New techniques are presented whose structure differ from conventional hydrological models due to the nature of remotely sensed data.

Download or read book The Use of Remote Sensing in Hydrology written by Frédéric Frappart (Ed.) and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remotely sensed data are nowadays commonly used for regional/global monitoring of hydrological variables including soil moisture, rainfall, water levels, flood extent, evapotranspiration or land water storage, as well as the forcing, calibration and assimilation into hydrodynamic, hydrological and hydrometeorological models. In the years to come, recent and future satellite sensors, some of them specifically designed for hydrological purposes, will provide systematic observations of hydrological parameters (e.g., surface and sub-surface storage and flux) at high spatial and temporal resolutions. This will offer new applications for the hydrological community. This book presents reviews and recent advances of general interest regarding the use of remote sensing for hydrology. The chapters are related to any hydrological reservoir (e.g., surface storage, soil moisture, groundwater, etc.) or flux (e.g., rainfall, evapotranspiration, discharge, etc.), the integration of satellite data into hydrological models, and the improvements to hydrology that can be expected from future satellite missions.

Book Synopsis An Assessment of Remote Sensing Applications in Hydrologic Engineering by : Robert H. Burgy
Download or read book An Assessment of Remote Sensing Applications in Hydrologic Engineering written by Robert H. Burgy and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current status of techniques, limitations, and applications of remote sensing to hydrologic problems of rainfall estimation, snow cover monitoring, water quality monitoring, and hydrologic modeling and runoff computation was reviewed. Tabulated data for 29 remote sensors indicated for each sensor the resolution range, spectral interval, spacecraft or aircraft that sensor has or could be flown on, and the major hydrologic parameters that could be measured or inferred. The thirteen hydrologic parameters listed were: surface temperature, cloud cover, atmospheric liquid water content, snow cover, water equivalent of snowpack, vegetation, land use, soil moisture, short wave radiation in radiation budget, long wave radiation in radiation budget, water bodies configuration, soil types, and basin area. Each sensor was capable of measuring from one to none of these parameters. The capability of remote sensing to gather regional scale synoptic information offers the potential of greatly enhancing watershed modeling. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sealing up in Hydrology using Remote Sensing Edited by J. B. Stewart Institute of Hydrology, UK E. T. Engman NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, USA R. A. Feddes Wageningen Agricultural University, The Netherlands Y. Kerr Centre d’Etudes Spatiales de la Biosphere, France The most pressing modern environmental problems are considered to affect the entire globe. For example, climate change, deforestation and desertification are all happening on such a large scale that they may affect the sustainability of man’s future. What is needed to address this question quantitatively are more reliable data on large scale land use and land-use change, and their impacts on water resources and climate. The catch is that we are never going to be able to measure directly key hydrological and meteorological variables at enough points on the ground to give adequate description of the large areas (regions and continents) for which information is required. The only way to get this is via large scale modelling and the development of remote sensing techniques. This book brings together the presentations made at a recent workshop by experts, who met to consider the problems of scaling up from local to global spatial scales and from the instantaneous satellite measurements to daily or longer time scales. The authors’ collective views represent the state of the art of their science as seen by an active international remote sensing community, and ground and planetary-based measurement scientists and modellers. Book Synopsis Hydrologic Remote Sensing by : Yang Hong
Download or read book Hydrologic Remote Sensing written by Yang Hong and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-10-26 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental remote sensing plays a critical role in observing key hydrological components such as precipitation, soil moisture, evapotranspiration and total water storage on a global scale. As water security is one of the most critical issues in the world, satellite remote sensing techniques are of particular importance for emerging regions which have inadequate in-situ gauge observations. This book reviews multiple remote sensing observations, the application of remote sensing in hydrological modeling, data assimilation and hydrological capacity building in emerging regions.
