Book excerpt: This is the modern, autobiographical account of the author's journey into the primitive wilderness of coastal British Columbia, and into the uncharted wilderness of the soul. It is both an inward journey, and an outward quest. The book is a rambling narrative, filled with unique insights, and presented in an introspective style. It is a true tale of adventure, misadventure, debauchery, wonder, mysticism, and miracles. It is a journey into rare experiences, and it is a journey home.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Life in Canada: Fifty Years Ago; Personal Recollections and Reminiscences of a Sexagenarian When a man poses before the world - even the Canadian world - in the rule of an author, he is expected to step up to the footlights, and explain his purpose in presenting himself before the public in that capacity. The thoughts of the world are sown broadcast, very much as the seed falls from the sweep of the husbandman's hand. It drops here and there, in good ground and in stony places. Its future depends upon its vitality. Many a fair seed has fallen on rich soil, and yet never reached maturity. Many another has shot up luxuriantly, but in a short time has been choked by brambles. Other seeds have been cast out with the chaff upon the dung heap, and after various mutations, have come in contact with a clod of earth, through which they have sent their roots, and have finally grown into thrifty plants. A thought thrown out on the world, if it possesses vital force, never dies. How much is remembered of the work of our greatest men? Book excerpt: Told with humor and a true travelers fascination with new places and adventure, this book provides a country wide glimpse of Canada and its bounty of travel opportunities and experiences. Based on the author's observations and his daughters journal transcripts of their journey together, a vibrant and personal description is provided of the uniqueness that is Canada. The travel partners begin their journey at the eastern-most edge of the North American continent, on the Island of Newfoundland and traverse the entire country in a series of trips devised to most appeal to, and yet still educate, a twelve year old girl. Their travels take them to Viking ruins, historic North American battlegrounds essentially untaught in American history, arctic wildlife areas, museums, mountain scenery, and widely varied cities from major modern metropolises to habitations on the rim of the Arctic Circle. The reader is also left with the understanding that these lessons are also taught, with love, to Hope by her Dad. The book is a unique travel guide that not only suggests to the reader the places and sites worth seeing, but it also provides a wonderful personal perspective of Canada and its culture, by viewing the trips through the eyes of the young girl, Hope.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born in 1922 in a poor section of Jersey City, New Jersey, to parents with only third grade educations, this is the life story of Gus Prinsell. In this autobiography, Gus starts by reflecting on his humble beginnings -- his earliest childhood memories are of poverty wrought by the Great Depression. His father was unemployed for a decade. Gus's parents never wavered in insisting that their children pursue an education. World War II started as he was entering his 20s, and he served his country in the US Navy. After becoming a "born again" Christian in the early 1940s and marrying Louise Bininger, he finished college and earned his medical doctor degree from Columbia University in 1952. From there, Gus went on to study surgery and tropical medicine. He then turned away from material gains and dedicated his life to medical missions in West Africa, where he moved with Louise and their four sons and opened the new Kamakwie Wesleyan Hospital in 1959. In 1964, Gus returned to the States where he served as a family physician in Western New York until his retirement. Gus still lives in Houghton, New York, with his wife of over 70 years, Louise. At the ages of 94 and 91, Gus and Louise now have seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Gus takes us through his life’s journey in his own words. Not only does he tell the story of his own life, but he effectively weaves in the stories of many of his family and friends. His trust in the Lord through faith has led Gus through his life of achievement. When asked to describe himself in one phrase, he defines himself as “a Christian missionary physician and humanitarian.” His life of dedication to God and mankind is an example for us all.
