Book Synopsis Topics in Spectral Geometry by : Michael Levitin
Download or read book Topics in Spectral Geometry written by Michael Levitin and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is remarkable that various distinct physical phenomena, such as wave propagation, heat diffusion, electron movement in quantum mechanics, oscillations of fluid in a container, can be described using the same differential operator, the Laplacian. Spectral data (i.e., eigenvalues and eigenfunctions) of the Laplacian depend in a subtle way on the geometry of the underlying object, e.g., a Euclidean domain or a Riemannian manifold, on which the operator is defined. This dependence, or, rather, the interplay between the geometry and the spectrum, is the main subject of spectral geometry. Its roots can be traced to Ernst Chladni's experiments with vibrating plates, Lord Rayleigh's theory of sound, and Mark Kac's celebrated question “Can one hear the shape of a drum?” In the second half of the twentieth century spectral geometry emerged as a separate branch of geometric analysis. Nowadays it is a rapidly developing area of mathematics, with close connections to other fields, such as differential geometry, mathematical physics, partial differential equations, number theory, dynamical systems, and numerical analysis. This book can be used for a graduate or an advanced undergraduate course on spectral geometry, starting from the basics but at the same time covering some of the exciting recent developments which can be explained without too many prerequisites.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Second Silivri Workshop functioned as a short summer school and a working conference, producing lecture notes and research papers on recent developments of Stochastic Analysis on Wiener space. The topics of the lectures concern short time asymptotic problems and anticipative stochastic differential equations. Research papers are mostly extensions and applications of the techniques of anticipative stochastic calculus.

Book Synopsis Three-Dimensional Problems of Elasticity and Thermoelasticity by : V.D. Kupradze
Download or read book Three-Dimensional Problems of Elasticity and Thermoelasticity written by V.D. Kupradze and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 951 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: North-Holland Series in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 25: Three-Dimensional Problems of the Mathematical Theory of Elasticity and Thermoelasticity focuses on the theory of three-dimensional problems, including oscillation theory, boundary value problems, and integral equations. The publication first tackles basic concepts and axiomatization and basic singular solutions. Discussions focus on fundamental solutions of thermoelasticity, fundamental solutions of the couple-stress theory, strain energy and Hooke’s law in the couple-stress theory, and basic equations in terms of stress components. The manuscript then examines uniqueness theorems and singular integrals and integral equations. The book ponders on the potential theory and boundary value problems of elastic equilibrium and steady elastic oscillations. Topics include basic theorems of the oscillation theory, existence of solutions of boundary value problems, integral equations of the boundary value problems, and boundary properties of potential-type integrals. The publication also reviews mixed dynamic problems, couple-stress elasticity, and boundary value problems for media bounded by several surfaces. The text is a dependable source of data for mathematicians and readers interested in three-dimensional problems of the mathematical theory of elasticity and thermoelasticity.
