The Governor's Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect, begun in 1983 was created to bring all sectors of society together, crossing all lines of income, location, education and profession. The Task Force unites leaders from the schools, the hospitals, the courts, the police and brings together child advocates, members of community organizations and leading private citizens. The then current New Jersey statistics included 123 reports of suspected child abuse every day which amounted to approximately 45, 000 reports for 1984 alone.
