This book was released on 1979 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A videotape of dynamic, high-resolution, real-time fatigue crack propagation, made from experiments with a special cyclic loading stage in the scanning electron microscope, was shown to the conference attendees. This paper briefly summarizes the video presentation and illustrates a few of the main points made by it.
Book Synopsis Use of Microfractography in the Study of Fatigue Crack Propagation Under Spectrum Loading by : PR. Abelkis
Download or read book Use of Microfractography in the Study of Fatigue Crack Propagation Under Spectrum Loading written by PR. Abelkis and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Use of electron microscope fractography in the study of fatigue crack propagation under spectrum loadings is based on the evaluation of 7075-T651 aluminum alloy specimens from an experimental program. Microscopically established crack propagation data by striation spacing measurements are shown to provide cycle-to-cycle evidence of crack propagation behavior under spectrum loading that normally cannot be established under macroscopic observation. Crack propagation rate retardation and acceleration is illustrated through fractographic striation measurements. Contribution and interaction of various loads of a transport wing loads spectrum are illustrated fractographically from the test program.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is pointed out that high internal stress, commonly regarded as necessary for initiating fracture by unidirectional deformation of a metal, does not seem essential to crack initiation by cyclic deformation of fatigue. An alternative whereby fatigue cracking can be started simply by the geometry of slip movement is generalized. The hypothesis was tested by the recently developed scanning electron-microscope for copper and aluminum specimens subjected to large amplitudes of cyclic strain (torsion), which gives a generalized type of slip movement. This technique in broadly confirming the hypothesis brings out striking forms of initial fatigue damage. (Author).

Book Synopsis Use of Electron Microfractography in Interpreting the Mechanisms of Fatigue Crack Propagation by : K. D. Nair
Download or read book Use of Electron Microfractography in Interpreting the Mechanisms of Fatigue Crack Propagation written by K. D. Nair and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electron microfractography has been used in elucidating the mechanisms of fatigue crack propagation in two face-centered-cubic (fcc) sheet metals which had been treated to produce different preferred orientations or textures. Comparison of the striations on the fatigue fracture surfaces of cold-rolled material with those of the same material, annealed to give a different texture and a high ductility, showed the morphology of the striations to be dependent on ductility and texture. A qualitative mechanism is suggested for fatigue crack growth by the Stage II process, involving the formation of striations.
