Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Famed traveler and mystic Alexandra David-Neel, the first Western woman to see the forbidden city of Lhasa, Tibet, examines Eastern concepts of the afterlife in this classic study. The question of what occurs to the individual personality after death is fundamental to the human experience. In Immortality and Reincarnation Alexandra David-Neel, the first Western woman to see the forbidden city of Lhasa, Tibet, examines Taoist, Tibetan, and Hindu concepts concerning life after death. Contrary to Western belief, which sees the human being as composed of a mortal body and an immortal soul, many Easterners believe in the immortality of both the body and the soul. Alexandra David-Neel gained firsthand knowledge of these beliefs and the practices they engendered in the course of her travels at the beginning of this century. In Immortality and Reincarnation she ties them together for a unique look at reincarnation and eternal life in a region untouched by the modern world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reincarnation in America: An Esoteric History surveys the complex history of reincarnation theories across multiple fields of discourse in a pre-American context, ranging from early Greek traditions to Medieval Christian theories, Renaissance esotericism, and European Kabbalah, all of which had adherents that brought those theories to America. Rebirth theories are shown in all these groups to be highly complex and often disjunctive with mainstream religions even though members of conventional religions frequently affirm the possibility of rebirth. As a history of an idea, reincarnation theory is a current, vital belief pattern that cuts across a wide spectrum of social, cultural, and scientific domains in a long, complex history not reducible to any specific religious or theoretical explanation. This book is cross-disciplinary and multicultural, linking religious studies perspectives with science based research; it draws upon many distinct disciplines and avoids reduction of reincarnation to any specific theory. The underlying thesis is to demonstrate the complexity of reincarnation theories; what is unique is the historical overview and the gradual shift away from religious theories of rebirth to new theories that are therapeutic and trans-traditional.

Book excerpt: Author Reverend Paul Lachlan Peck believes that millstones can be turned into milestonesthat adverse experiences can become opportunities for spiritual growth and magnificent manifestations. By listening to the small voice of Spirit, God, you too can overcome the millstones in your own life. Peck explores the intriguing ideas and puzzling questions of New Age teachings in this revised volume, originally titled Intermediate Spiritual Metaphysics. By examining the positive forces that manifest throughout the four major quadrants of life: health, wealth, work, and love, Peck also shows how these forces work within the four primary institutions: church, finance, government, and education. The Judaic-Christian student of New Age theology will find answers to complex spiritual questions in this easy-to-read book that has been divided into the following three sections: Part One considers dharma, karma, reincarnation, and life between lives. Part Two discusses the governance, authority, and responsibility of the universe. Part Three devotes itself to the Revelation of St. John the Divine, the teachings that relate to daily spiritual life. Milestones of the Way will provide you with an empowerment that heals and ultimately advances you on a path toward spiritual contentment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book begins with some intriguing evidence in favour of the belief in survival. It consists of a study of the testimonies of people who, like Lazarus of Bethany, suffered suspended animation, or pseudo-death. The conclusions that were reached by over a hundred serious investigators of the problem of survival are reviewed. Of these investigators, including psychical researchers, psychologists, physicians, surgeons, physicists, lawyers, businessmen, authors, clergymen, etc, about eighty-one percent became absolutely sure of survival, about fourteen percent were more or less convinced, and only about four per cent remained in doubt. These results preceded the publication in 1960 of the 'Palm Sunday' case by the Society for Psychical Research, representing the most convincing evidence of all. This case is discussed in some detail. Specific matters considered include possible preparations for one's own 'passing' and for the 'passing' of others, the most desirable method of disposing of a corpse, whether by cremation, burial, or embalming, etc. The hypotheses that have been advanced alternative to the survival hypothesis are given due consideration. The author concludes that survival is a 'virtual certainty'.
