Book Synopsis Rudimental Grand Tour by : Ryan Alexander Bloom
Download or read book Rudimental Grand Tour written by Ryan Alexander Bloom and published by Mel Bay Publications. This book was released on 2023-02-09 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rudimental Grand Tour is a compendium of drumming cultures and traditions from twenty-two distinct regions throughout Europe and the Americas, designed to expand rudimental knowledge and develop international percussive skills. Each of the rudimental systems on the Grand Tour is broken down with a short history, an explanation of the notation styles and rhythmic quirks, a region-specific rudiment list with rhythmic interpretation, musical excerpts for context, an online recorded example, and a list of sources for further study. All twenty-two of the regions have contributed to the current state of the percussive arts and studying their rudimental drumming can help achieve higher levels of control, finesse, flexibility, creativity, and pure chops. Rudimental Grand Tour incorporates over 600 years of history and hundreds of unique rudiments that are not found on the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) 40 list. American fife and drum, Basler trommeln, Scottish pipe band, Mexican banda de guerra, Norwegian trommeslåtter, Swiss tambour-ordonnanz and sixteen more cultures are represented—both well-known and obscure. Whether you are a marching specialist, kit drummer, world percussionist, or classical artist, a world of rudimental possibility awaits. The author includes definitive online recordings of examples of each of the twenty-two drumming traditions explored in the book. [Rudimental Grand Tour] is the most thorough, in-depth presentation of the topic that I’ve ever seen, with an incredible amount of information … I’m sorry I didn’t write it myself! – Joel Rothman This is a serious collection of rudimental info! … I really checked your book out and find it to be a stellar text. – Edward Freytag
Book Synopsis Nineteenth-Century Spanish America by : Christopher Conway
Download or read book Nineteenth-Century Spanish America written by Christopher Conway and published by Vanderbilt University Press. This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nineteenth-Century Spanish America: A Cultural History provides a panoramic and accessible introduction to the era in which Latin America took its first steps into the Modern Age. Including colorful characters like circus clowns, prostitutes, bullfighters, street puppeteers, and bestselling authors, this book maps vivid and often surprising combinations of the new and the old, the high and the low, and the political and the cultural. Christopher Conway shows that beneath the diversity of the New World there was a deeper structure of shared patterns of cultural creation and meaning. Whether it be the ways that people of refinement from different countries used the same rules of etiquette, or how commoners shared their stories through the same types of songs, Conway creates a multidisciplinary framework for understanding the culture of an entire hemisphere. The book opens with key themes that will help students and scholars understand the century, such as the civilization and barbarism binary, urbanism, the divide between conservatives and liberals, and transculturation. In the chapters that follow, Conway weaves transnational trends together with brief case studies and compelling snapshots that help us understand the period. How much did books and photographs cost in the nineteenth century? What was the dominant style in painting? What kinds of ballroom dancing were popular? Richly illustrated with striking photographs and lithographs, this is a book that invites the reader to rediscover a past age that is not quite past, still resonating into the present.

Book Synopsis The Spanish Military and Warfare from 1899 to the Civil War by : José Vicente Herrero Pérez
Download or read book The Spanish Military and Warfare from 1899 to the Civil War written by José Vicente Herrero Pérez and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-14 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the attitudes of the Spanish army officer corps towards the evolution of warfare during the early decades of the twentieth century, and their influence on the armies of the Spanish Civil War. It examines how the Spanish military coped with technological innovations such as the machine gun and the tank, how it adapted the army ́s battlefield doctrine to changes in warfare before the Civil War, and the influence of this doctrine on the outcome of the conflict. Of the different armed forces that fought in the Spanish Civil War, it is paradoxically the Spanish army that remains most forgotten - especially its military doctrine. Scholarship on the Spanish military in this period focuses on its politics, ideology and institutional reforms, touching upon 'hard' professional issues only superficially, if at all. Based on original research and using largely unstudied Spanish primary sources, this book fills a major scholarly gap in the history of the Spanish army and the Spanish Civil War.

Book Synopsis Texian Volunteer vs Mexican Soldier by : Ron Field
Download or read book Texian Volunteer vs Mexican Soldier written by Ron Field and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-07-20 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fully illustrated with specially commissioned artwork and mapping plus carefully chosen archive illustrations, many in color, this lively study investigates the Mexican soldiers and Texian volunteers who fought one another in three key battles during the Texas Revolution. Following unrest throughout Mexico, in 1835 a revolt began in Texas among the Anglophone and Tejano-speaking settlers, known as Texians. Having retreated after their defeat at Bexar in December 1835, Mexican troops were ordered to re-occupy Texas in early 1836. In this volume, US military history expert Ron Field explores in detail three key battles that ensued. From February 23, Mexican forces besieged the Texian forces at the Alamo at San Antonio de Bexar; in the subsequent battle on March 6, almost all of the Texian defenders were killed. On March 19, forces en route to join the main Texian army were surrounded by Mexican troops at Coleto Creek. Following their surrender, about 340 Texian prisoners were shot by Mexican soldiers in what became known as the Goliad Massacre. On April 21, a Texian force launched a surprise attack on a larger Mexican army near the San Jacinto River, the decisive Texian victory that resulted is the third battle to be investigated in this study. Featuring full-color artwork and maps and drawing upon the latest research, this book investigates the fighting men of both sides at the Alamo, Coleto Creek, and the San Jacinto River, casting light on the doctrine, tactics, weaponry, and combat record of the Texian and Mexican combatants who clashed in the first weeks of the emerging Republic of Texas.
