Download or read book Let's Go, Baby-o! written by Janet McLean and published by Allen & Unwin. This book was released on 2011-08-01 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let's Go, Baby-o! You and me! To the up, to the down and the turn around, to the wibble and the wobble, and the flip, flop hop. Then twist, twirl, whirrrl. When sleep-time is over, a little boy and his cousin play action games, but in between they stop to look out the window. What do they see? Grandparents are digging in the garden, children are building a cubby house, the cat has her eye on the baby birds and the dogs have their eyes on the cat! Let's Go, Baby-o! is a fun-filled story for parents, grandparents, teachers and child-care educators to share with babies and young children. This book shows that learning language and playing games go together and will encourage the conversations between children and adults that are so important for children's development.
Download or read book Reginald McKenna written by Martin Farr and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-04-30 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reginald McKenna has never been the subject of scholarly attention. This was partly due to his own preference for appearing at the periphery of events even when ostensibly at the centre, and the absence of a significant collection of private papers. This new book redresses the neglect of this major statesmen and financier partly through the natural advance of historical research, and partly by the discoveries of missing archival material. McKenna's role is now illuminated by his own reflections, and by the correspondence of friends and colleagues, including Asquith, Churchill, Keynes, Baldwin, Bonar Law, MacDonald, and Chamberlain. McKenna's presence at the hub of political life in the first half of the century is now clear: in the radical Liberal governments of 1905–16, where he acted as a lightning conductor for the party; during the war, where he served as the Prime Minister's deputy and the principal voice for restraint in the conduct of the war; and as chairman of the world's largest bank, where until his death in office aged eighty, he prompted progressive policies to deal with the issues of war debt, trade, mass unemployment, and the return to gold.

Book Synopsis Under Cover Queen by : Sidney St. James
Download or read book Under Cover Queen written by Sidney St. James and published by BeeBop Publishing Group. This book was released on 1900 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: UNDER COVER QUEEN Sequel to JADED LOVER Book 3 PART TWO The Whodunnit Series "Seems like you would have found your own self by now, but late at night, those lover's tears come back, faces in your dreams, fingers in your back, voices of the memories for cryin' out loud." --- Jerry Jeff Walker In this love quadrangle, genealogy plays a vital role in wealth versus the poor and sex versus love. Mix in a hint of "Whodunnit" in the murder of one of the characters, and you have a two-part series of trying to catch the killer and figure out the hidden skeletons in the closet. Everyone loves a love triangle, especially when it's two triangles that come together at the same time, just as long as they are not part of it. Obviously, it is the other characters' drama that makes us feel better about our own lives. In this moving story of mystery and intrigue, there so much for the reader to find in the conflict and resolutions of the cutthroat dealings of what were thought to be best friends. The settings of this novel take place along the west coast of the United States in Black Rock Cove, Oregon. Three wealthy families, one to the north, one to the south, and one right along the coastline in downtown Black Rock Cove. The year is 1882. Reggie Scott is in love with Julia Esser and was but one day away from marrying the wealthy young woman, heir to the largest estate on the west coast in Oregon. They have both been made for each other since they were very young children. However, Reggie didn't know until one day before his best friend and best man at the wedding dug up a mystery of his past so frightening, he used it against him to try and steal the woman he loved and make her his own. Overnight Reggie left on the midnight train to travel to New Orleans to find out the truth of this mystery. He needed to know and couldn't bear letting anyone in on this mysterious past he possessed. Streaming tears cleansed Julia's red cheeks the day she was left standing at the altar. Her vision was blurred with waves of sadness. The salty tears flowed into her mouth so that she could taste her own sorrow. Why did Reggie not call or show up for the wedding? Where did he go? Julia experienced bitter and unforgiving pain in her heart. Marco Ross and his twin sister, Angie, were out to win the hearts of Julia and the man she loved who never showed at the church. In our story, conflict is a vital ingredient for the story. Few romance mysteries can manage to be interesting without this conflict. Relationships are flat without it. Love triangles are beyond any doubt dull without it. However, in this two-volume set of THE WHODUNNIT SERIES, there's positively a struggle, discomfort, a lot of inner-strife, and maybe a murder or two!

Book Synopsis Sylvia, Queen of the Headhunters by : Philip Eade
Download or read book Sylvia, Queen of the Headhunters written by Philip Eade and published by Picador. This book was released on 2014-06-03 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE EXTRAORDINARY TALE OF SYLVIA BROOKE, THE LAST WHITE RULER OF THE JUNGLE KINGDOM OF BORNEO Sylvia Brooke was one of the more exotic and outrageous figures of the twentieth century. Otherwise known as the Ranee of Sarawak, she was the wife of Sir Vyner Brooke, the last White Rajah, whose family had ruled the jungle kingdom of Sarawak on Borneo for three generations. They had their own flag, revenue, postage stamps, and money, as well as the power of life and death over their subjects—Malays, Chinese, and headhunting Dyak tribesmen. The regime of the White Rajahs was long romanticized, but by the 1930s, their power and prestige were crumbling. At the center of Sarawak's decadence was Sylvia, author of eleven books, mother to three daughters, an extravagantly dressed socialite whose behavior often offended and usually defied social convention. Sylvia did her best to manipulate the line of succession in favor of her daughters, but by 1946, Japan had invaded Sarawak, sending Sylvia and her husband into exile, ending one of the more unusual chapters of British colonial rule. Philip Eade's Sylvia, Queen of the Headhunters is a fascinating look at the wild and debauched world of a woman desperate to maintain the last remains of power in an exotic and dying kingdom.
Book Synopsis Reginald Sutcliffe and the Invention of Modern Weather Systems Science by : Jonathan E. Martin
Download or read book Reginald Sutcliffe and the Invention of Modern Weather Systems Science written by Jonathan E. Martin and published by Purdue University Press. This book was released on 2021-03-15 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite being perhaps the foremost British meteorologist of the twentieth century, Reginald Sutcliffe has been understudied and underappreciated. His impact continues to this day every time you check the weather forecast. Reginald Sutcliffe and the Invention of Modern Weather Systems Science not only details Sutcliffe’s life and ideas, but it also illuminates the impact of social movements and the larger forces that propelled him on his consequential trajectory. Less than a century ago, a forecast of the weather tomorrow was considered a practical impossibility. This book makes the case that three important advances guided the development of modern dynamic meteorology, which led directly to the astounding progress in weather forecasting—and that Sutcliffe was the pioneer in all three of these foundational developments: the application of the quasi-geostrophic simplification to the equations governing atmospheric behavior, adoption of pressure as the vertical coordinate in analysis, and development of a diagnostic equation for vertical air motions. Shining a light on Sutcliffe’s life and work will, hopefully, inspire a renewed appreciation for the human dimension in scientific progress and the rich legacy bequeathed to societies wise enough to fully embrace investments in education and basic research. As climate change continues to grow more dire, modern extensions of Sutcliffe’s innovations increasingly offer some of the best tools we have for peering into the long-term future of our environment.

Download or read book Goats written by Mark Poirier and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2013-09-12 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'A sly and wonderful novel ... Poirier fights deliberately shy of delivering a familiar coming-of-age story. Instead, Ellis and Goat Man's journey turns out to be as comically tricky as every other subtly sketched event and relationship' The Times 'Poirier is as on the ball as Salinger, as clued in as Hunter S. Thompson, and acutely tuned to right here, right now' Scotsman Ellis is fourteen. His parents have split up - Mom's gone New Age in Tucson with some asshole abstract artist; and Dad - Fucker Frank, is sporting nerdy glasses and retailing Mexican knick-knacks to Washington wannabes. Ellis is about to start at a squaresville boarding-school. It's your standard dysfunctional family thing ... except that Ellis has been hitting the bong since he was eleven, has a goat-man for a guru, and a weed-wisdom beyond his years. Goats is an extra-mellow coming-of-age tale - quirky, touching and very funny. It's about growing up and getting your shit together.
