Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper highlights that Togo’s Strategy for Boosting Growth and Promoting Employment offers a medium-term development framework for implementing the Government’s General Policy Statement, the Millennium Development Goals, and the Government’s vision for making Togo an emerging economy in 15 to 20 years, as well as making it a country that respects human rights and promotes the rule of law. The return of political stability and peace to the country created a favorable environment for better governance, resumption of international assistance, and significant reduction in exterior public debt. The Government’s medium-term economic policy for 2013–2017 will essentially be used to build and consolidate the foundations for Togo’s future economic emergence. The focus will be on new priorities: boosting growth; employment and inclusion; strengthening governance; and reducing regional disparities and promoting grassroots development. Designing a national land-use plan will territorialize development by creating a more balanced national economic space. The new land-use scheme will be based on dynamic, competitive, regional economies in which the urbanization of regional capitals and secondary towns is sufficiently controlled to allow true development hubs to emerge.

Book Synopsis Development and Territorial Restructuring in an Era of Global Change by : Elisabeth Peyroux
Download or read book Development and Territorial Restructuring in an Era of Global Change written by Elisabeth Peyroux and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-08-29 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thinking about development and the environment simultaneously is one of the biggest scientific and societal challenges of the 21st century. Understanding the interactions between biophysical systems and human activities in an era of global change requires overcoming disciplinary divides and opening up new epistemological perspectives. This book explores these challenges using a territorial lens. Combining various scales of analyses (from global to local) and contexts (both urban and rural) in the North and in the South, it analyzes the relationships between environment and development through a variety of geographical objects (i.e. cities, rural and agricultural areas, coastlines, watershed), themes (i.e. ecological transitions, food, energy, transport, agriculture, mining activities) and methodologies (i.e. qualitative and quantitative approaches, modeling, in situ measurements). By engaging in a dialogue between social science and natural science disciplines, within different fields and with a variety of forms of knowledge production, this book provides essential information for understanding and reading the complexity of a globalized world. This book is targeted at academics and students in social sciences and at stakeholders in the field of territorial and environmental management.

Book Synopsis Burkina Faso by : International Monetary Fund. African Dept.
Download or read book Burkina Faso written by International Monetary Fund. African Dept. and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2016-12-23 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2016 Article IV Consultation highlights a rebound in economic activity in Burkina Faso beginning in 2016, after two years of weak growth. The January terrorist attacks and delays in approving the budget weighed on activity in the early part of 2016, but activity has rebounded, and real GDP growth is now projected at 5.4 percent, an improvement over 4.0 percent in 2015. The recovery is led by two new gold mines that came onstream and a sharp projected rebound in agricultural output in late 2016 and early 2017, after three disappointing years. The recovery is expected to consolidate in 2017, and growth is projected to rise to 6.1 percent as domestic and external conditions remain supportive.

Book Synopsis Développement, inégalités, pauvretés by : Nicola Maria Boccella
Download or read book Développement, inégalités, pauvretés written by Nicola Maria Boccella and published by KARTHALA Editions. This book was released on 2005 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Dans l'essai introductif Growth and Inegality.

Book Synopsis Transnational Migration and Human Security by : Thanh-Dam Truong
Download or read book Transnational Migration and Human Security written by Thanh-Dam Truong and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-07 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume places the migration-development-security nexus in the field of transnational studies. Rather than treating these three categories as self-evident, the essays excavate aspects of power and privilege built into their governing frameworks and conflicting rationales apparent in practices of control. Bringing together diverse experiences and case studies, the volume highlights the problematic nature of maintaining distinct and disconnected frameworks of governance. It argues for a new approach that demonstrates the significance and usefulness of comparative ethics in conceptualising migration from a human-centered and gendered perspective in order to address the multi-facetted and multi-dimensional nature and meanings of "security".
Book Synopsis Biosphere Reserves and Sustainable Development Goals 1 by : Angela Barthes
Download or read book Biosphere Reserves and Sustainable Development Goals 1 written by Angela Barthes and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-02-28 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1971, UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme has embraced a number of principles that link the political, scientific and academic spheres. Biosphere Reserves and Sustainable Development Goals 1 presents these areas as privileged spaces for experimenting with operating methods specific to cross-cutting objectives and issues. These areas encourage the development of interdisciplinary research, supported by a worldwide network to disseminate experience, approaches and knowhow. The various global and local political scales are linked here, with different consequences for the reconfiguration of local political arenas, for specific modes of development linked to a renewed relationship with knowledge, powers and institutions, and for renewed relationships between the worlds of science, education and territorial governance.
Book Synopsis Biosphere Reserves and Sustainable Development Goals 2 by : Bruno Romagny
Download or read book Biosphere Reserves and Sustainable Development Goals 2 written by Bruno Romagny and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-04-16 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1971, UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme has embraced a number of principles that link the political, scientific and academic spheres. Biosphere Reserves and Sustainable Development Goals 2 is a reminder of the fundamental issues involved in governance. The diversity and multiplicity of stakeholders, and the complexity of the interplay between them, as well as their organization, are decisive factors in the proper management of resources and territories. The book also presents a number of case studies demonstrating that, between the strong development aspirations of their populations, the impact of human activities and the need to conserve their biological heritage, the biosphere reserves of the southern Mediterranean are facing major issues: agricultural pollution, forest fires, water use in a context of climate change, etc.
