Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Dreams are lost to lonely nights, when stars are suicidal. Upon the moonlite shore I walk, where broken hearts lie idle. Countless echos of empty shells, beat hard agaist the shore, and I would give the moon to them if I could love, once more... It is a rare treat when an author not only shares his writing but his photograph and illustrations as well. Henry's poetry is a reflection of his perspective on life and reflects a wide genre of subjects from family, to love, and a multitude of sins in between. Like his pictures, his poetry ranges from lighthearted to passionate and his words are thought provoking.

Book excerpt: In my first book, Perfect Flaws, I wrote that the book was about nothing and something at the same time. However, in the past year or so, I have arrived at a different conclusion. I have seen many horrid things as a sniper in a Special Forces unit. The details are irrelevant here, there are some in the pages inside. I can honestly say that this book is about how a person, such as I, deals with PTSD and its expressive turmoil it plays inside our minds. It is, in my opinion, incurable and the phrase, "get over it," should never be in the same conversation. I am not promoting poetry as the only means of self-healing. I am, more importantly, trying to encourage other veterans to do something to aide in healing themselves. It's hard work but one cannot rely on medications and outside influences to heal them. Just in combat, much of the time, you can only rely on yourself. You must want to live. I have dove deeper in this book to explore topics outside the combat zone. Topics assigned to me in college classes, as well as everyday life. I did this because we are not in combat anymore. Everyday problems blend into our past world, an avoidable part of living in society. But, through the same self-healing methodology, I feel you can tackle them as well. But then again, like I already said, you must want to.

Lewis—the great British writer, scholar, lay theologian, broadcaster, Christian apologist, and bestselling author of Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, The Great Divorce, The Chronicles of Narnia, and many other beloved classics—examines the Psalms. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the heels of her acclaimed book In an Instant, the #1 New York Times bestseller she wrote with her husband, ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff, and with the same candor and charm, Lee Woodruff now chronicles her life as wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Woodruff’s deeply personal and, at times, uproariously funny stories highlight such universal topics as family, marriage, friends, and how life never seems to go as planned. From raising teenagers (“Now with a boy and girl on the precipice of serious adolescence, the bathroom door is sealed tighter than a government nuclear testing ground”) to how she copes with tragedy (“Swimming surrounds me in the velvet wet of a bluish green world where I can dive deep down and sob with no trace”), Perfectly Imperfect: A Life in Progress is the testimonial of a woman who embraces the chaos of her surroundings, discovers the splendor of life’s flaws, and accepts that perfection is as impossible to achieve as a spotless kitchen floor.

Book excerpt: In my vision and through brief stories, I want to inspire readers to dig into their souls and search for the true meaning of diversity. No matter how we best describe what diversity means to us in our lifetime, we have already experienced the true meaning. My expectation after reading the book is to make everyone understand how important it is to live together without hate, accept those who are different, and welcome into our lives anyone who chooses to express themselves openly. Our world is changing day by day, and it is our responsibility to take hold and change how we live. No matter of race, color, or sexual orientation. We all deserve to be accepted.

Book excerpt: Bad things happen in "the Pit," a notorious crime-infested ghetto in downtown Miami. Michael Berish's experiences as a Miami policeman for twenty-two years (thirteen of which were in the REAL Miami Vice) serve as fuel for these exciting, intense stories about life as a cop in a tough part of a big city. Not just another collection of rehashed police stories with shootouts, car chases, and damsels in distress, Reflections from the Pit, contains individual, quirky, off-center characters. The stories focus on basic character flaws while dealing with social issues of the day: racism, hangings from police cruisers, sexism, affirmative action, prejudice, drug-dealing cops and corruption, homelessness, segregation, and police brutality. Berish uses his intimate knowledge of "the Pit" to bring these tales alive. This book pulls no punches; it shows you the dark side of police work: the good, the bad and the ugly (warts and all), both the humor and the tragedy. These reflections, covering more than one hundred years of history, give one pause for thought and a peek into the human swamp of life in "the Pit." WEBSITE: www.realmiamivice.com
