Book Synopsis Mechanical Variables Measurement - Solid, Fluid, and Thermal by : John G. Webster
Download or read book Mechanical Variables Measurement - Solid, Fluid, and Thermal written by John G. Webster and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-06-14 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accuracy in the laboratory setting is key to maintaining the integrity of scientific research. Inaccurate measurements create false and non-reproducible results, rendering an experiment or series of experiments invalid and wasting both time and money. This handy guide to solid, fluid, and thermal measurement helps minimize this pitfall through careful detailing of measurement techniques. Concise yet thorough, Mechanical Variables Measurement-Solid, Fluid, and Thermal describes the use of instruments and methods for practical measurements required in engineering, physics, chemistry, and the life sciences. Organized according to measurement problem, the entries are easy to access. The articles provide equations to assist engineers and scientists who seek to discover applications and solve problems that arise in areas outside of their specialty. Sections include references to more specialized publications for advanced techniques, as well. It offers instruction for a range of measuring techniques, basic through advanced, that apply to a broad base of disciplines. As an engineer, scientist, designer, manager, researcher, or student, you encounter the problem of measurement often and realize that doing it correctly is pivotal to the success of an experiment. This is the first place to turn when deciding on, performing, and troubleshooting the measurement process. Mechanical Variables Measurement-Solid, Fluid, and Thermal leads the reader, step-by-step, through the straits of experimentation to triumph.
Book Synopsis Non-Destructive Testing by : J. Boogaard
Download or read book Non-Destructive Testing written by J. Boogaard and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 918 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is an activity closely related to the quality and reliability of products, and to the reliable and safe operation of industrial plants. Physical measuring techniques are used to examine parts of constructional assemblies for hidden imperfections and defects. A wide choice of measuring techniques is available to meet the demand of examining a wide variety of materials such as metals, plastics, rocks, as well as different structures and sizes ranging from semiconductor chips to nuclear reactors and off-shore oil platforms. Activities in the field of NDT encompass: Fundamental research to understand and describe the way in which reactions of certain imperfections to a physical measuring technique can be optimized and used to assess type and grade of imperfection; Methods to characterize materials and materials properties; Applications in product quality control; Applications in plant inspection to ensure a reliable operation of components, avoiding damage to both man and environment, as well as financial losses; Personnel education and qualification schemes; The spread of NDT applications to newly industrialized countries. The two proceedings volumes contain over 400 review and specialist papers. The most recent developments in the field of NDT are presented with contributions by outstanding experts from all over the world. Papers are grouped according to technique for those dealing with fundamental research and to field of application for the more practical oriented ones. In this way each chapter provides an easy overview of related current research. Extensive keyword indexes have been included to facilitate the retrieval of information according to individual requirements. The high technical level of the papers and their up-to-date content will make them an indispensable source of information for students, researchers and professionals in the areas covered.
Book Synopsis Inhomogeneous Waves in Solids and Fluids by : Giacomo Caviglia
Download or read book Inhomogeneous Waves in Solids and Fluids written by Giacomo Caviglia and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book may be viewed as an introduction to time-harmonic waves in dissipative bodies, notably viscoelastic solids and fluids. The inhomogeneity of the waves, which is due to the fact that planes of constant phase are not parallel to planes of constant amplitude, is shown to be strictly related to the dissipativity of the medium. A preliminary analysis is performed on the propagation of inhomogeneous waves in unbounded media and of reflection and refraction at plane interfaces. Then emphasis is given to those features that are of significance for applications. In essence, they regard surface waves, scattering by (curved) obstacles, wave propagation in layered heterogeneous media, and ray methods. The pertinent mathematical techniques are discussed so as to make the book reasonably self-contained.

Book Synopsis REFLECTION AND REFRACTION WAVES AT THE INTERFACE by : Felix F. Gorbatsevich
Download or read book REFLECTION AND REFRACTION WAVES AT THE INTERFACE written by Felix F. Gorbatsevich and published by American Academic Press. This book was released on 2016-06-20 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laws of reflection and refraction of compression and shear elastic waves at the boundary between media are considered and taken into account in a lot of solutions of scientific and technical problems. Without calculations made on the basis of these laws it is impossible to determine the earthquake epicentre coordinates, location of a producing horizon, solving the problems of noise reduction etc. in seismology, geophysics, industrial engineering, architecture. In the book are considered all cases of reflection and refraction of compression and shear elastic waves on the flat border between two different media. Two solids, a solid and liquid, a liquid and solid, two liquids, a solid and vacuum have been analyzed. The waves propagating along the flat interface are discussed. Qualitative and limited quantitative analyses of the influence of the adjoining media properties on the processes of reflection and refraction have been made. The book presents designs of transducers for elastic waves with the use of interface. The material set forth can be used as a reference book. The book is designed for specialists working in the field of acoustics, seismics, geophysics and non-destructive control of materials.

Download or read book Ultrasonic Measurements for Process Control written by Lawrence C. Lynnworth and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-07-19 with total page 715 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineers, scientists, and technologists will find here, for the first time, a clear and comprehensive account of applications of ultrasonics in the field of process control. Using numerous examples of high-volume, low-cost applications, the author illustrates how the use of new transducer materials and designs, combined with microprocessor-based electronics, make technical and financial sense for concepts that only a few years ago might have been of interest only to academicians. Some of the important topics covered include coupling, acoustic isolation, transducer and sensor design, and signal detection in the presence of noise.
