Many people in general, and even Christians admittedly avoid the subject of pain almost as much as they avoid pain itself. But once you understand the purpose of pain, you can make the most of the painful experiences in life. In The Furnace of Affliction: How God Uses Our Pain and Suffering for His Purpose, Horace Williams, Jr. tackles this challenging topic. Based on the Word of God, insights from other leaders, and his studies, he addresses several key points, including: How pain develops our faith How pain determines our path How pain delivers comfort, joy, and peace And how pain deepens our commitment to God. Packed with personal stories and scripture to support his points, Horace shares his insights on the problem of pain. His candid and straightforward communication style engages the reader as he addresses this critical topic for the body of Christ today.

Book excerpt: This book is a guide for individuals who find themselves in difficult, hopeless, and desperate situations. The message of the book is to show them how to find their way out of the darkness and into the light. The author emphasizes that when a situation is beyond one's control, seeking revenge is not the solution. Instead, the book encourages readers to free themselves by forgiving and allowing themselves to heal emotionally. The author argues that people often do not heal emotionally because they think they have suffered more than others have, but they must allow God's light to shine in their hearts to enjoy true freedom and not let bitterness affect them. The book's ultimate goal is to help readers embrace Jesus Christ as the light, way, truth, and life, to receive a life of true victory.

Book excerpt: Discover a renewed biblical vision for sex, singleness, and relationships, and transform into an empowered woman of faith equipped to navigate today's dating culture with vision, clarity, and freedom. Let's face it: being single in today's culture as a woman of faith can be a STRUGGLE FEST. But it doesn't have to be. With real talk and straight wisdom, speaker, podcaster, and founder of The Refined Woman Kat Harris says it's time for a new conversation about singleness, sex, and desire. Growing up at the height of the purity movement, Kat knew this much: good Christians don't have sex until marriage. But approaching 30 and thrust into the New York City dating scene, she found a set of rules was not a compelling enough reason to keep her clothes on. Caught between purity culture's rules and popular culture's do what feels good, Kat began a multi-year journey searching for answers to the biggest questions about sexuality and faith: What does the Bible really say about sex? Why does almost everyone deal with some sort of sexual shame? But really--what's a single girl to do with her sexual desire? What if we never get married . . . then what? It turns out Kat was asking questions that countless women were dying to ask but didn't know they had the permission to do so. Hungry for clarity, she researched, wrestled, and discovered a God who wasn't afraid or ashamed of sex and desire as she thought He might be. In actuality, God created sex and desire within humanity and called it very good. Now she believes God desires to restore a generation disillusioned with purity culture and Christian dating, discouraged about their singleness, ashamed of their sexual desire, and uncertain how to practically walk this season out well. Join Kat on her messy, sometimes painful, and always honest journey to discovering God's heart for sexuality, desire, singleness, and our purpose within it all.

Book excerpt: ARE YOU DISAPPOINTED THAT LIFE ISN’T TURNING OUT LIKE YOU PLANNED? HOW DO YOU RESPOND when your husband or wife tramples your emotions? When your boss fires you unexpectedly? When you lose your life’s savings? When the child you’ve loved and prayed for turns his back on you and your values? When disappointments like these smash their way into your life, you may want to scream, “How could God let this happen?” BUT WHAT IF GOD didn’t just “let it happen”? What if the things you call disappointments are really His appointments — events He is using to make you more like Christ? What if He is using your disappointments like flames to melt and burn away the undesirable elements in your life, leaving you pure and radiant — like refined silver? YOU CAN BE DEFEATED by life’s unavoidable disappointments, or you can become stronger because of them. Kay Arthur paints a graphic picture of the dangerous downward spiral of disappointment that can lead to discouragement, depression, or even despair. But you can learn to break that cycle and embrace disappointment with a faith that recognizes the trials of life as tools that God uses to make you — as silver refined — a reflection of His goodness.

Book excerpt: "Refined For Rebirth" is simply a mother's diary of the first few months after her daughter's miraculous survival from a deadly plane crash in Port Harcourt, the Southern part of Nigeria. Kechi Okwuchi, who suffered third degree burns over 70% of her body, may have been the least likely expected to survive since the majority of the less fortunate passengers incurred less burns than she did! That famous incident was the beginning of a series of less famous, less celebrated experiences that tried every aspect of the lives of mother, daughter and family. In an honest and almost innocent style, Ijeoma Okwuchi allows the world to take a glimpse at the suspense-filled, sometimes grueling, most times extreme, hopelessly diverse experiences that shot both daughter and herself from ordinary, normal existence to frontline spiritual leadership.

Book excerpt: "Pray Along Prayers" contains prayers that are prayed offensively, which diminishes the time you have to pray defensively. Each prayer is distilled, refined, and based on the Word of God, with many scriptures to stand on, to fight and win the good fight of faith. This is a unique approach to prayer in which Hughes invites you to pray along, first binding Satan and all evil before going to our Heavenly Father in prayer - thus eliminating the need to stop in the middle of praying, to bind Satan and all evil. This inspired collection of prayers is an authoritative manual, destined to be your daily guide as you pray along with the Five-minute, Ten-minute, Twenty-minute versions of "My Daily Prayer," or the "Sweet Hour of Prayer." These daily prayers are all based on the model given in "The Lord's Prayer. "Pray Along Prayers" is your personal answer book, your arsenal and defense all wrapped up into one. It is a valuable resource of teachings and prayers on faith, healing, depression and oppression, protection, deliverance, Salvation, the Holy Spirit, prosperity and more. Included are prayers for Christians of all faiths to pray along with, which will cover you completely - spiriturally, physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and financially. "Pray Along Prayers" starts with a personal example of how God can even send a prophet to your house to give direction and confirmation to your life. It also teaches on the importance of speaking and standing on the Word of God for the very best outcome over your circumstances and situations. It also contains a vivid account of an incredible "Miracle of Life Restoration" through prayer. This account testifies of the fact that we really can do whatwe are instructed to do in the last commission of Christ in Matthew 10:7,8, "Go preach...Heal the sick...raise the dead, cast out devils"- proving that Jesus is still the same, yesterday, today and forever.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the importance of prayer and its requirements. It describes what is essential for the disciple in terms of the external acts and its inner secrets of prayer, and revealing its refined hidden meanings in terms of humility, sincerity and intention. Presented to the English speaking public is a translation of two chapters of Ghazal's great work, Ihya .ulum al-din. The chapter is entitled kitabasrar al-salah (the book of the secrets of prayer and its requirements). This translation was originally carried out by E E Caverley which I have edited in places to give the reader a clearer understanding of the text and correcting the Quranic references. I have also included in the book the prophetic narrations in the original Arabic to give the reader of Arabic a fuller flavour of the intended meaning. The two chapters selected are entitled "fefadail al-salahwa al-sajudwa-aljama.hwa al-azaanwaibarihaï" (virtue of the prayer, prostration, congregation, call to prayer and its precepts). And the third chapter from the book entitled fee shuruut al-batinah min a.amaal al-qalb. (Inward stipulations for the acts of the heart) The first chapter generally focuses on the pre-eminent status of prayer and its superiority over all other forms of worship in Islam. Instilling in the one who is about to initiate the prayer the enormity and seriousness of the action. The second chapter in the book focuses on the mind-set of the one who is engaged in prayer, humility being a fundamental pillar in this regard. Imam Ghazali also offers practical remedies to attain this status of humility and describes the base nature of heedlessness before one's Creator. I hope this book acts as a means of proximity since nothing can facilitate this noble goal to reach one's Lord but the Prayer. But prostate in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah) Surah Alaq.19

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays collected in this volume provide a resource for thinking theologically about the practice of Christian prayer. In the first of four parts, the volume begins by reaching back to the biblical foundations of prayer. Then, each of the chapters in the second part investigates a classical Christian doctrine – including God, creation, Christology, pneumatology, providence and eschatology – from the perspective of prayer. The chapters in the third part explore the writings of some of the great theorizers of prayer in the history of the Christian tradition. The final part gathers a set of creative and critical conversations on prayer responding to a variety of contemporary issues. Overall, the T&T Clark Handbook of Christian Prayer articulates a theologically expansive account of prayer – one that is deeply biblical, energetically doctrinal, historically rooted, and relevant to a whole host of critical questions and concerns facing the world today.
