This book was released on 1992 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas reburning-sorbent injection (GR-SI) is an emissions control technology for coal fired power plants which uses natural gas and calcium sorbents to reduce NOx and sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions by 60 and 50 %, respectively. Gas reburning involves injecting natural gas into the boiler and reduces NOx by reactions involving hydrocarbon fragments produced in the process. SO2 is reduced since natural gas contains no sulfur. Additional SO2 reduction is provided by injection of a calcium based sorbent into the boiler furnace or downstream. The sorbent reacts with SO2 to produce calcium sulfate (CaSO4) which is captured by existing particulate collection equipment at the plant.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 (CAAA) have led to accelerated research into novel sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) control technologies for coal-fired industrial boilers. One of these technologies combines sorbent injection and selective non-catalytic reduction for simultaneous SO2/NOx removal. The work presented herein concentrated on characterizing three process operational parameters of this technology: injection temperature, sorbent type, and reductant/pollutant stoichiometric ratio. A slurry composed of a urea-based solution (NOx OUT A or NOx OUT A+) and various calcium-(Ca-) based sorbents was injected at a range of temperatures and reactant/pollutant stoichiometries in a natural-gas-fired, pilot-scale reactor with doped pollutants. Up to 80% reduction of SO2 and NOx at reactant/pollutant stoichiometric ratios of 2 and 1.5, respectively, was achieved. SO2 emission reductions from slurry injection were enhanced moderately when compared with dry sorbent injection methods, possibly caused by sorbent fracturing to smaller, more reactive particles. Emissions from ammonia (NH3) slip (unreacted nitrogen-based reducing agent) and nitrous oxide (N2O) formation were reduced in comparison with other published results, while similar NOx reductions were obtained. increased carbon monoxide (CO) emissions, caused by the decomposition of urea, were moderate. Emissions of CO, NH3, and N2O for the enhanced urea solution (NOx OUT A+) were substantially less than the levels observed during urea (NOx OUT A) injection. The injection of the urea-based solution enhanced SO2 removal, probably because of the formation of (NH4)2CA(SO4)2 H2O. The results of this pilot-scale study have shown high reduction of both SO2 and NOx.
Book Synopsis Advanced Air and Noise Pollution Control by : Lawrence K. Wang
Download or read book Advanced Air and Noise Pollution Control written by Lawrence K. Wang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-11-03 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leading pollution control educators and practicing professionals describe how various combinations of different cutting-edge process systems can be arranged to solve air, noise, and thermal pollution problems. Each chapter discusses in detail a variety of process combinations, along with technical and economic evaluations, and presents explanations of the principles behind the designs, as well as numerous variant designs useful to practicing engineers. The emphasis throughout is on developing the necessary engineering solutions from fundamental principles of chemistry, physics, and mathematics. The authors also include extensive references, cost data, design methods, guidance on the installation and operation of various air pollution control process equipment and systems, and Best Available Technologies (BAT) for air thermal and noise pollution control.
Book Synopsis Coal Energy Systems by : Bruce G. Miller
Download or read book Coal Energy Systems written by Bruce G. Miller and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Volume in the Sustainable World Series, Richard C. Dorf, Series Editor Coal is currently a major energy source in the United States as well as throughout the world, especially among many developing countries, and will continue to be so for many years. Fossil fuels will continue to be the dominant energy source for fueling the United States economy, with coal playing a major role for decades. Coal provides stability in price and availability, will continue to be a major source of electricity generation, will be the major source of hydrogen for the coming hydrogen economy, and has the potential to become an important source of liquid fuels. Conservation and renewable/sustainable energy are important in the overall energy picture, but will play a lesser role in helping us satisfy our energy demands. This book is a single source covering many coal-related subjects of interest ranging from explaining what coal is, where it is distributed and quantities it can be found in throughout the world, technical and policy issues regarding the use of coal, technologies used and under development for utilizing coal to produce heat, electricity, and chemicals with low environmental impact, vision for utilizing coal well into the 21st century, and the security coal presents. Key Features: ·A single-source reference for the energy professional, policy maker, and those interested in learning about the value of coal as an energy source that covers many aspects of coal and its use. ·Provides a comprehensive discussion of technical and policy issues regarding the use of coal. ·Presents coal's increasing role in providing energy security to the United States and other countries. ·Gives an up-to-date review of current energy usage, environmental issues, clean coal technologies under development, and policy factors affecting the use of coal. ·Addresses misconceptions of coal usage by illustrating that it can be used in an environmentally-friendly manner.
