Book excerpt: The material which served as the basis for the rhymes in this book came from real-life experiences and observations in an environment which well-represents the stereotype of those we often refer to as rednecks. Their behaviors, interests, beliefs, and accomplishments are not always seen by the general population as typical, but for them, their beliefs and actions are quite reasonable and completely understood and respected by their peers, as it is their way of life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rose City Redneck is my Poetic Journey through life so far. I start the book with my Grandparents and go on through Love, Kids, Faith, as well as darker subjects like Addiction and Suicide. I have witnessed all of these in my short lifetime and hopefully I can help others know they are not alone as they walk through them as well. Come and walk with me and who knows, maybe we can laugh, love or commiserate together. I am a man in my sixties who was raised in the rural areas of Arkansas. I am the the father of four wonderful daughters and eight grandchildren and one brand new Great-grandson. My wife Susie and I are nearing our fortieth anniversary. I have for many years written poetry to be able to deal with life. It's very therapeutic to allow these thoughts to drift from my head to the tip of a pencil. It turns out these poems had quite a chronological order to them when i gathered them all up. The poems are just insights into my life from the very highest of highs to the very lowest of lows. I hope you can relate to many of these poems as you go through your life as well.

Download or read book Roc the Mic Right written by H. Samy Alim and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-09-27 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complementing a burgeoning area of interest and academic study, Roc the Mic Right explores the central role of language within the Hip Hop Nation (HHN). With its status convincingly argued as the best means by which to read Hip Hop culture, H. Samy Alim then focuses on discursive practices, such as narrative sequencing and ciphers, or lyrical circles of rhymers. Often a marginalized phenomenon, the complexity and creativity of Hip Hop lyrical production is emphasised, whilst Alim works towards the creation of a schema by which to understand its aesthetic. Using his own ethnographic research, Alim shows how Hip Hop language could be used in an educational context and presents a new approach to the study of the language and culture of the Hip Hop Nation: 'Hiphopography'. The final section of the book, which includes real conversational narratives from Hip Hop artists such as The Wu-Tang Clan and Chuck D, focuses on direct engagement with the language. A highly accessible and lively work on the most studied and read about language variety in the United States, this book will appeal not only to language and linguistics researchers and students, but holds a genuine appeal to anyone interested in Hip Hop or Black African Language.

First, Fillingim traces the history of cowboy poetry and its emergence as a cultural phenomenon. Then he recounts the story of how Georgia became home to a vibrant cowboy poetry scene. But the largest part of the book is an anthology of poems by some of the finest cowboy poets anywhere, and they all happen to be in Georgia."
