Book Synopsis Redeemed Bodies by : Gail Corrington Streete
Download or read book Redeemed Bodies written by Gail Corrington Streete and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do religious people choose paths that lead to their deaths as martyrs? Why do some who are killed for their faith become known and revered while others do not? Gail Streete asks these important and disturbing questions in the context of early Christianity, looking at the stories of martyred women such as Thecla, Perpetua, and Felicitas--women whose stories helped shape Christian faith for centuries, yet are all but forgotten in the modern world. Streete reclaims these stories and relates them to tragic instances of martyrdom in our own world, pulling from stories as diverse as the victims of Columbine and female suicide attackers in the Muslim world. What do their deaths mean, and why do we find their stories so moving?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "God's eternal plan for us involves our body. We can't write off our physical life as spiritually irrelevant." — Sam Allberry There's a danger in focusing too much on the body. There's also a danger in not valuing it enough. In fact, the Bible has lots to say about the body. With the coming of Jesus, "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us"—flesh that was pierced and crushed for the sins of the world. In What God Has to Say about Our Bodies, Sam Allberry explains that all of us are fearfully and wonderfully made, and should regard our physicality as a gift. He offers biblical guidance for living, including understanding gender, sexuality, and identity; dealing with aging, illness, and death; and considering the physical future hope that we have in Christ. In this powerfully written book, you'll gain a new understanding for the immeasurable value of our bodies and God's ultimate plan to redeem them.

Book Synopsis Redeemed Sexuality by : Andrew A. Boa
Download or read book Redeemed Sexuality written by Andrew A. Boa and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2017-12-12 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sexual brokenness permeates our culture and has found its way into the church. Even though Christians are called to value and celebrate sexuality as sacred and good, it is often a source of fear, shame, or secret sin. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Healthy sexuality concerns what we pursue, not just what we avoid, so Redeemed Sexuality invites emerging adults to seek sexual maturity and discipleship in the context of community. As we experience love, joy, and intimacy with God and others, sexual shame and sin lose their power. Integrating theology, psychology, and spiritual formation, participants engage the process of transformation by practicing vulnerability embracing their identity in Christ learning healthy intimacy Incorporating peer-to-peer leadership, this field-tested small group curriculum is suitable for use in both men’s or women’s groups. The process is neither linear nor easy, but change is possible because Christ is able. The only question is, Do you want to be healed?
Book Synopsis Redeemed Bodies Versus Glorified Bodies by : Marty a Cauley
Download or read book Redeemed Bodies Versus Glorified Bodies written by Marty a Cauley and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-07 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some misthologists (experts in rewards) postulate that all believers will have glorified bodies. Other misthologists insist that only faithful believers will have glorified bodies. Until this study, problematic passages led the author to take a mediating position, basically suggesting that unfaithful believers will have glorified bodies that fail to radiate glory. Posing unglorified glorified bodies is not the most satisfying solution, however. As a result of the research in this book, the author modified his position to concur with the latter group of misthologists: Only faithful believers will have glorified bodies; unfaithful believers will simply have glorified bodies. The primary problematic passage preventing him from adopting this position earlier was 1Cor 15:43. Consequently, this passage, in its context, is the focus of this study. As a corollary, a detailed defense of the subjunctive in 1Cor 15:49 is provided. Paul is exhorting believers to bear the image of Christ morally in the way they live currently so that they can display this image eternally by shining like the stars in heaven. Paul cryptically conveyed this conclusion in his earlier analogy in 1Cor 15:41 when he said: "Star differs from star in glory." Stellar believers will display this heavenly glory via their resurrected bodies. Unfaithful believers will not. They will not have the glorified bodies associated with this stellar glory.
