And Other Strange and Scary Tales - Ghost stories are not just passed on around camp fires on dark nights, although that IS the ideal venue for them. Most of them can actually be found recorded in the pages of old newspapers, passing on the eye-witness accounts of sightings. It is left to the reader to believe what they will and draw whatever conclusions they wish from the articles and stories, but they certainly DO make for entertaining reading. This book will not only recount ghost stories, and identify places reputed to be haunted, but also many odd, strange or scary phenomena will be examined which have been found to occur in Grayson County and the near vicinity over the years. (Ghosts and odd occurrences don't always stay strictly confined inside county lines. There may be a bit of "paranormal overflow" sometimes! Enjoy the book, but don't become too frightened!

This book was released on 2017-11-02 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ghost stories and strange tales in this book and the previous volumes, are not just fun scary stories, they are also part of our history. Many of these true ghost stories also contain a great deal of this area's past. Who said history has to be boring, right? (This might be a good way to introduce young people to a love of local history; they love scary ghost stories!). Even if you are not sure about the reality of ghosts or just don't believe in them, it is still an interesting light-hearted read from which one may learn something about the area; and there are many strange, interesting tales which are not about ghosts. The same is also true of Volumes One and Two in this series of Red River Hauntings. I tried to write a book that I myself would want to read, and I think Volume 3 is the best of the series! Some who are Christians may be reluctant to, or refuse to believe in the paranormal. The writer of this book is a Christian as well. Even Christianity allows that there are such things in existence as evil spirits and "ministering spirits" called guardian angels. Who knows what some of these paranormal manifestations really are? There is a very appropriate quote from the character named Esther in a Christian based movie done in 1959 called "Ben Hur" which said "The world is more than we know." I believe that. Christians and Jews will remember Balaam's donkey who saw the army of angels in the road which Balaam couldn't see. Were they there, or not?? They most certainly were, but the man couldn't see them. It is left to the reader to believe what they will and draw whatever conclusions they wish from the articles and stories, but they certainly DO make for entertaining reading. This book will not only recount ghost stories, and identify places reputed to be haunted, but also a few other odd, strange or scary phenomena will be examined which have been found to occur in Grayson County and the near vicinity over the years. (Ghosts and odd occurrences don't always stay strictly confined inside county lines. There may be a bit of "paranormal overflow" into neighboring counties and into southern Oklahoma! Guests at the LaBorde Hotel in Rio Grande City report visions of the Red Lady, who was spurned by the soldier she loved and driven to suicide. And Newcomerstown's young post boy, William Cartmill, still tries to deliver his mail. Author Debra Robinson delves into the area's ghost tales and the history behind them.

Follow Vincent Dacquino as he interviews local experts, explores areas where hauntings may have occurred—such as Carmel’s legendary Smalley’s Inn—and digs deep into historical archives to open new windows into the lives, and possible afterlives, of these three mysterious characters.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some of the nation’s most compelling ghost stories owe their origin to “The Father of Waters.” Ghosts along the Mississippi River is the first book-length collection of ghost tales from the small towns and bustling cities that have grown up along its banks. The states represented in this book include Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. Unlike most collections of “true” ghost stories, Ghosts along the Mississippi River draws from the folk traditions of the northern and the southern United States. These tales are populated with Federal and Confederate soldiers, Native Indians, wealthy entrepreneurs, actors, college students, hotel owners, preachers, slaves, and planters. According to some paranormal investigators, the large number of ghost stories from the Mississippi’s river towns, and from watery sites all over the world, are proof that large bodies of water are conductors of psychic energy. Granted, no concrete proof exists that there is a definite connection between the river and any actual ghosts or spiritual phenomena. What is indisputable, though, is the fact that the ghost stories included in Ghosts along the Mississippi River are an invaluable record of the values, dreams, fears, and lives of the people who have called the river home.
