Book Synopsis Handbook of Recycled Concrete and Demolition Waste by : F. Pacheco-Torgal
Download or read book Handbook of Recycled Concrete and Demolition Waste written by F. Pacheco-Torgal and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-30 with total page 671 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The civil engineering sector accounts for a significant percentage of global material and energy consumption and is a major contributor of waste material. The ability to recycle and reuse concrete and demolition waste is critical to reducing environmental impacts in meeting national, regional and global environmental targets. Handbook of recycled concrete and demolition waste summarises key recent research in achieving these goals.Part one considers techniques for managing construction and demolition waste, including waste management plans, ways of estimating levels of waste, the types and optimal location of waste recycling plants and the economics of managing construction and demolition waste. Part two reviews key steps in handling construction and demolition waste. It begins with a comparison between conventional demolition and construction techniques before going on to discuss the preparation, refinement and quality control of concrete aggregates produced from waste. It concludes by assessing the mechanical properties, strength and durability of concrete made using recycled aggregates. Part three includes examples of the use of recycled aggregates in applications such as roads, pavements, high-performance concrete and alkali-activated or geopolymer cements. Finally, the book discusses environmental and safety issues such as the removal of gypsum, asbestos and alkali-silica reaction (ASR) concrete, as well as life-cycle analysis of concrete with recycled aggregates.Handbook of recycled concrete and demolition waste is a standard reference for all those involved in the civil engineering sector, as well as academic researchers in the field. - Summarises key recent research in recycling and reusing concrete and demolition waste to reduce environmental impacts and meet national, regional and global environmental targets - Considers techniques for managing construction and demolition waste, including waste management plans, ways of estimating levels of waste, the types and optimal location of waste recycling plants - Reviews key steps in handling construction and demolition waste

Book Synopsis Recycling of Portland Cement Concrete Pavements by : William A. Yrjanson
Download or read book Recycling of Portland Cement Concrete Pavements written by William A. Yrjanson and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to pavement designers, construction engineers, and others interested in economical methods for recontstructing portland cement concrete (PCC) pavements. Information is provided on the processes and procedures used by a number of states in using PCC pavement as aggregate in reconstructed concrete pavement. Since 1975 a number of state highway agencies have reconstructed concrete pavements using the old PCC as aggregate in the new pavement. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the processes used on various projects in several states, giving details of construction procedures, as well as test results on various properties of the recycled aggregates and the resultant concrete.
Book Synopsis Recycling of Portland Cement Concrete Pavement by : John B. Wojakowski
Download or read book Recycling of Portland Cement Concrete Pavement written by John B. Wojakowski and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recycling of portland cement concrete pavements (PCCP) can help alleviate any material disposal problems during construction, especially in urban areas and reduce the consumption or importation of virgin aggregate into aggregate poor areas. Two test sections using the coarser fraction from the original crushed PCCP were placed on K-7 in 1985. One section incorporated a recycled base and standard PCCP construction; another section was designed as a recycled base and recycled PCCP. Two other sections were control sections constructed with regular aggregate.

Book Synopsis Construction Report by : Richard P. Henely
Download or read book Construction Report written by Richard P. Henely and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After some success in the process of recycling asphalt pavements in 1975, Kossuth County decided to implement further recycling projects on a larger scale in its 1976 road construction program. The work done in 1975 indicated that a quality product could be produced, but that an air pollution problem created during the heating and mixing operation must be brought under reasonable control. As part of its 1976 road program, Kossuth County planned to salvage a total of 16 miles of old asphalt pavements in three projects. Two of these projects were three miles in length and the third project was ten miles long. The ten mile project was selected by the Federal Highway Authority as one of the recycling projects to be completed in cooperation with Demonstration Project No. 39, Recycling Asphalt Pavements.
Book Synopsis Portland Cement Concrete Recycling by : R. Gordon McKeen
Download or read book Portland Cement Concrete Recycling written by R. Gordon McKeen and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The review of current technology pertaining to the recycling of existing portland cement concrete pavements was conducted. The purpose was to assess the applicability of recycling to U.S. Air Force pavement rehabilitation work. Costs of alternatives were reduced to simple models for use in evaluating sensitivity to cost factors. A study of projects on which this technology was used identified aggregate cost and haul distance as key factors.
Book Synopsis Initial Report on Experimental Project "Recycling of Asphaltic Concrete Pavements" by : Wyoming. State Highway Department
Download or read book Initial Report on Experimental Project "Recycling of Asphaltic Concrete Pavements" written by Wyoming. State Highway Department and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A primary problem associated with recycling is the pollution created by the combustion of asphaltic material during heating in a conventional drum dryer. Also of importance is the aging characteristics of recycled materials and their performance. This report covers the testing and design methods, construction procedures, resulting air pollution, economy of operation, and performance of a pavement recycled and utilized as a surface course in southeastern Wyoming.
Book Synopsis Surface Recycling Asphaltic Concrete Pavement by : Wade D. Barnes
Download or read book Surface Recycling Asphaltic Concrete Pavement written by Wade D. Barnes and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project demonstrated that highway pavement recycling with a heater-scarifier-repaver, adding additional asphaltic material and new asphaltic concrete pavement to the mixture, can satisfactorily restore these surfaces. The proper design of new asphaltic concrete pavement material to be added was considered. The laboratory investigative work and necessary construction controls are discussed. Careful records of fuel consumption by the heater-scarifier-repaver machine were kept as were all costs attributed to the project for comparison with conventional resurfacing methods. This method of surface restoration compares very favorably economically with conventional methods.
