Book Synopsis Development of integrated multipurpose animal recording systems by : Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Download or read book Development of integrated multipurpose animal recording systems written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2018-08-21 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Animal identification and recording serves multiple purposes in a country’s livestock sector. It is a prerequisite to establish and operate any genetic improvement programme. It also contributes to animal traceability and disease control, as well as to deterring stock theft. Traceability of animals and their products helps to ensure the safety and quality of animal products, and contributes to enhance market access and to generate larger incomes for producers and other players in the value chain. Animal recording systems are therefore not just an information system but a powerful tool for livestock development and for contributing to global demands for food security and poverty alleviation. To make animal recording systems effective, they must be supported by appropriate public and private policies, and a legal and institutional framework. These multiple uses of animal identification and recording highlight the need to adopt multipurpose systems that integrates animal identification and registration, animal traceability, animal health information and performance recording. The FAO guidelines for development of integrated multipurpose animal recording systems have been prepared with the objective of helping countries to design and implement such systems and to maximize the chances that they will be sustained. These guidelines put performance recording in a more general context, and hence to complement rather than replace the previous FAO guidelines. These guidelines focus primarily upon the process rather than the methods and the technology (e.g. details of the equipment and measurements), since the latter is sufficiently covered by other guidelines. Where necessary, the guidelines are formulated to suit low or medium input production environments.

Book Synopsis The CD-ROM and Optical Disc Recording Systems by : E. W. Williams
Download or read book The CD-ROM and Optical Disc Recording Systems written by E. W. Williams and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1994 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With one million CD-ROM users worldwide, there is an urgent need to demystify the technology of compact-disc data recording and retrieval, which will eventually replace the floppy disk. This book meets that need. It will benefit students, engineers, and professionals from many disciplines whowish to understand and exploit the cost-effective potential of optical data storage and retrieval. The book provides a unique introduction to CD-ROM and other optical recording systems, and clearly describes how the two main competing systems--the magneto-optic and the phase change types--work.Topics include photodetectors, lasers, mastering, WORM media, and magneto-optic media, among others. Keep up to date with this superb new introduction to CD-ROM and optical disc recording systems.

Book Synopsis Membrane Potential Imaging in the Nervous System and Heart by : Marco Canepari
Download or read book Membrane Potential Imaging in the Nervous System and Heart written by Marco Canepari and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-08-03 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume discusses membrane potential imaging in the nervous system and in the heart and modern optical recording technology. Additionally, it covers organic and genetically-encoded voltage-sensitive dyes; membrane potential imaging from individual neurons, brain slices, and brains in vivo; optical imaging of cardiac tissue and arrhythmias; bio-photonics modelling. This is an expanded and fully-updated second edition, reflecting all the recent advances in this field. Twenty chapters, all authored by leading names in the field, are cohesively structured into four sections. The opening section focuses on the history and principles of membrane potential imaging and lends context to the following sections, which examine applications in single neurons, networks, large neuronal populations and the heart. Topics discussed include population membrane potential signals in development of the vertebrate nervous system, use of membrane potential imaging from dendrites and axons, and depth-resolved optical imaging of cardiac activation and repolarization. The final section discusses the potential – and limitations – for new developments in the field, including new technology such as non-linear optics, advanced microscope designs and genetically encoded voltage sensors. Membrane Potential Imaging in the Nervous System and Heart is ideal for neurologists, electro physiologists, cardiologists and those who are interested in the applications and the future of membrane potential imaging.
