Book excerpt: Indigenous methodologies have been silenced and obscured by the Western scientific means of knowledge production. In a challenge to this colonialist rejection of Indigenous knowledge, Anishinaabe re-searcher Kathleen Absolon describes how Indigenous re-searchers re-theorize and re-create methodologies. Indigenous knowledge resurgence is being informed by taking a second look at how re-search is grounded. Absolon consciously adds an emphasis on re with a hyphen as a process of recovery of Kaandossiwin and Indigenous re-search. Understanding Indigenous methodologies as guided by Indigenous paradigms, worldviews, principles, processes and contexts, Absolon argues that they are wholistic, relational, inter-relational and interdependent with Indigenous philosophies, beliefs and ways of life. In exploring the ways Indigenous re-searchers use Indigenous methodologies within mainstream academia, Kaandossiwin renders these methods visible and helps to guard other ways of knowing from colonial repression. This second edition features the author’s reflections on her decade of re-search and teaching experience since the last edition, celebrating the most common student questions, concerns, and revelations.

The guide emphasizes a holistic approach to care that encompasses the well-being of both the caregiver and the person with alzheimer's, advocating for a balanced life that nurtures the caregiver's mental and physical health. Here is a preview of what you'll learn... • Introduction to alzheimer's disease • Biological factors that contribute to alzheimer's risk • Progression of symptoms • Lifestyle factors that contribute to alzheimer's • The powerful link between diet and alzheimer's • The specific things you should do every day • The importance of mental exercise and how to train your brain! The relevant research shows that the life expectancy, is an average of seven years after the diagnosis. People who have been treated at the very beginning of stage 1 have extended this to as long as 14 years and most of them with a high to good quality of life. There is no reason why you cannot be another one of them All you have to do is make the decision to fight for as long as possible. It is well known that a fit body supporting a mind that is in good psychological condition can fight any disease, even the worse possible. This is why it is imperative that you do not let the diagnosis take your spirit down.

Book excerpt: Post-Millennial Palestine: Literature, Memory, Resistance confronts how Palestinians have recently felt obliged to re-think memory and resistance in response to dynamic political and regional changes in the twenty-first century; prolonged spatial and temporal dispossession; and the continued deterioration of the peace process. Insofar as the articulation of memory in (post)colonial contexts can be viewed as an integral component of a continuing anti-colonial struggle for self-determination, in tracing the dynamics of conveying the memory of ongoing, chronic trauma, this collection negotiates the urgency for Palestinians to reclaim and retain their heritage in a continually unstable and fretful present. The collection offers a distinctive contribution to the field of existing scholarship on Palestine, charting new ways of thinking about the critical paradigms of memory and resistance as they are produced and represented in literary works published within the post-millennial period. Reflecting on the potential for the Palestinian narrative to recreate reality in ways that both document it and resist its brutality, the critical essays in this collection show how Palestinian writers in the twenty-first century critically and creatively consider the possible future(s) of their nation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each year millions of American adults visit a childhood home. Few can anticipate the effect it will have on them. Often serving several important psychological needs, these trips are not intended as visits with people from their past. Rather, those returning to their homes have a strong desire to visit the places that comprised the landscape of their childhood. Approximately one third of American adults over the age of thirty have visited a childhood home. This book describes some of their experiences and the psychology behind the journeys. Most people who visit a childhood home are motivated by a desire to connect with their past. Seeing the buildings, schools, parks, and playgrounds from their youth helps to establish the psychological and emotional link between the child in the black-and-white photographs and the person they are today. Many people use the trip to get in touch with the values and principles they were taught as children, often as a means to get their lives back on track. Others use that journey to strengthen emotional bonds between themselves and loved ones. Still others return to former homes to work through psychological issues left over from sad or traumatic childhoods. No matter the reason, there are few experiences in one's life that can move a person as deeply and unpredictably as returning home.

Book excerpt: Fragmented memories, flashbacks, emotional reactivity and somatic complaints are common features in the lives of trauma survivors. These symptoms often leave one feeling disconnected and alone. Sexual assault trauma leaves scars that frequently go unseen by the general public. The effects, however, are lasting for the survivor and frequently impact a person's ability to engage fully in life and to navigate intimate relationships with ease. Recovery from such experiences is challenging. I sought treatment for two decades before stumbling upon a treatment approach that worked - pelvic floor physiotherapy! In my experience it was through this unconventional treatment approach that I was able to completely resolve all the post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms I had lived with for decades. This book is unique in that it details the ingredients that went into enabling my recovery. In my experience it was a combination of the physiotherapist's person-centred skills together with the muscle release approach we adopted that enabled success. Reconnected offers hope to survivors. It is written as a mix of a personal story, combined with the many therapeutic approaches I tried prior to discovering the physiotherapy approach that worked. The neuroscience explaining how and why trauma can be treated through the body already exists. This research has been incorporated in the book to explain the success of the approach described. This makes it appealing to academics, healthcare professionals and people with experiences similar to my own. To my knowledge very few people recover completely from the effects of complex trauma. It is exciting to find a treatment approach that not only works but is a first of its kind in treating trauma of this nature in this way.

Book excerpt: Alchemy has been discussed for millennia and many are the texts that one can consult, all complex, occult, and suggesting experiments that are difficult to implement. Tradition handed down the image of the alchemist as a solitary researcher who, surrounded by alembics and distillers tries to turn lead into gold, manipulating toad tails, bat wings and other strange elements. His quest, a metaphor for human evolution. But centuries pass, times change and disciplines and the ways to achieve goals are transformed, too. The alchemical laboratory, full of bottles, retorts and dusty tomes, jealously protected from the light and the curiosity of the uninitiated is no longer needed. We are in the Age of Aquarius and the alchemical laboratory is us. We are in the Age of Aquarius and the alchemical laboratory is us. Everyone is the Alchemist at work, the laboratory and the element that gradually changes and becomes the result of the Great Work. All at the same time. Falco Tarassaco’s research of redefines the paradigm of alchemy, bringing it up to date and making it accessible to men and women of today. Alchemy means self-transformation with a desire to achieve spiritual results and more knowledge, acting on the laws governing time, matter and thought. The objective is to balance and learn to use the precious elements inside each one in order to become Magicians, aware creators of our spiritual path and our evolution.

Book excerpt: Bebbie Hickman 287 words The Hidden Land of Youngsters With so many books currently on the market geared to our youth, Bebbie Hickman wanted to be a positive force for the Lord, to counter the enormous number of reading materials that contain lewd and raw language while edifying the evil forces of the devil. With that in mind, God has inspired Bebbie to write The Hidden Land of Youngsters. Started in 1995 as a short story consisting of ten pages and filed away in a drawer, Bebbie rediscovered its worth as a compass, pointing our children in the right direction. She allows her reading audience the pleasure of enjoying her books without fear of stumbling over curse words, sex themes or evil influences. The Hidden Land of Youngsters is such a book. Adventure, imagination, family ties, decisions to make, and at the center of it all a God-inspired message for young people to think on and draw strength from. Bebbie offers parents an alternative in reading materials for their children, as well as an outlet for children to use their imagination in a clean and fun way. At present, Bebbie is working on The Hidden Land of Youngsters series, focusing on her endearing characters and how they face and triumph over evil by relying on God to fight their battles. Bebbie's inspiration for writing The Hidden Land of Youngsters comes from her granddaughter, Maddie, and her three grandsons, Philip, Zeb and Levi, who are portrayed as main characters in the book. Bebbie has a heart for the young people of our time, thus writing positive SciFi topics in book form for the sheer pleasure of her reading audience, while instilling confidence in parents who select books authored by Bebbie Hickman.

It stimulates the mind, reveals the soul, humbles the heart, relaxes the body, and satisfies the spirit. Experience change one scripture at a time, one day a week, for fifty-two weeks. Read one scripture on Sunday and meditate on that scripture for the entire week. One reading or message is comparable to a Sunday morning sermonette. Scriptures are presented to make learning and retention easier. God's word is explained to give a greater understanding of God. Learning, retention, and understanding can encourage the application of scripture in everyday life. Love Life through Scripture is an opportunity to experience God without feeling overwhelmed. It is an opportunity to experience spiritual transformation by God and to love your life.
