Book excerpt: Ten African-American leaders in the church tell their stories of how they embraced Reformed theology and what effect it has had on their lives and ministries. The ten men who have contributed to this book are often asked, "How did you come to embrace Reformed theology?" With the recent surge in popularity of Reformed theology in the broader evangelical world and the growing interest among African-Americans, it shouldn't seem curious that more and more African-American churchmen are embracing Reformed theology. But the question remains, and Glory Road provides an answer, using personal accounts tracing their conversion to Christianity, their introduction to and embrace of Reformed theology, and this theology's effect on their lives and ministries. Ultimately, Glory Road is about the glory of God in providentially bringing men and women to the truths of salvation. In addition to the book's editor, Anthony J. Carter, Glory Road includes contributions from such notable pastors as Thabiti Anyabwile, Ken Jones, Michael Leach, and Eric Redmond.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arthur W. Pink (1890-1953) launched his yearly publication, Studies in the Scriptures in 1921. These continued until his death, altogether 33 volumes of 288 pp. each. Most of Pink's books are taken from these yearly books (written monthly in 24 page format). This title is one of the many taken from eight of those monthly magazines. Readers will find thorough consideration of all the facets of this Biblical Doctrine of Reconciliation. Pink covers: Its Arrangement; Its Need, Its Effectuation; Its Meaning; Its Scope; and Its Reception. There are Scriptures galore cited. Undoubtedly the reader will grow rich in knowledge and in the grace of Christ. The pages are full, with probably 400 words to a page, so buyers will get their moneys worth. As an example of what a master workman like Pink does, note that he cites Romans 12:1, 2: [This verse] ''supplies an interpretation of the rites of the Law and of the reasonable part of the O. T. order of things. Thus, he who would make a covenant with God is required to give up himself wholly unto God with a sincere and firm resolution unto a new life of obedience to Him. If there is any reservation the covenant is marred in the making of it: ''Their heart was not right with Him, neither were they steadfast in His covenant'' (Ps. 78:37). Goodwin's Reconciliation by the Blood of Christ is a sermon he preached on Colossians 1:20, in which He describes the seeming impossibility of reconciling totally depraved men to a holy God. Who is sufficient for such a task? He proves that only Christ Jesus had the fitness to fill this role of perfect obedience to the Law, together with an acceptable sacrifice to propitiate the wrath of God toward men.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who is Jesus Christ? You've never met Him in person, and you don't know anyone who has. But there is a way to know who he is. How? Jesus Christ - the divine Person revealed in the Bible - has a unique excellence and a spiritual beauty that speaks directly to our souls and says, "Yes, this is truth." It's like seeing the sun and knowing that it is light, or tasting honey and knowing that it is sweet. The depth and complexity of Jesus shatter our simple mental frameworks. He baffled proud scribes with his wisdom but was understood and loved by children. He calmed a raging storm with a word but would not get himself down from the cross. Look at the Jesus of the Bible. Keep your eyes open, and fill them with the portrait of Jesus in God's Word. Jesus said, "If anyone's will is to do God's will, He will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority." Ask God for the grace to do His will, and you will see the truth of His Son. John Piper has written this book in the hope that all will see Jesus for who he really is and will come to enjoy him above all else.

In The Blue Jeans Gospel, author Rob Cruver cuts through misunderstandings and complicated rules and practices of modern Christianity by focusing on its core message of loving, living, and serving others. In this inspiring book, Cruver invites you to love, live, and serve as Jesus did. Through scripture and personal stories, Rob Cruver shows us how to develop a comfortable relationship with Jesus. He teaches us about love and how we should live rationally, with forgiveness and humility. He also encourages us to do this even when the blue jeans aren’t necessarily that comfortable. The author’s straightforward message of compassion and understanding is both refreshing and uplifting.

Book excerpt: St. John affirms in his First Letter: "The blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin" (1 Jn 1:7). This revealed truth becomes the aspiration for the researcher to embark into a journey of "faith seeking understanding" a journey to grasp, to a certain extent, the virtue of the blood of Jesus in relation to reconciliation of man to God. In fact, the theme of reconciliation is not something abstract to be put on the table of theological speculation. Rather, it is very practical. It is deeply experienced by man in his daily life as he tries, on the one hand, to experience God's forgiveness and, on the other hand, to forgive those who offends him. For this reason, the content of this investigation is not something utopian since it is related directly to the salvation o the human race. Theologically speaking, man, from the time of old, has committed sin against God who created him in his image and likeness (see Gen 1:26). The history of salvation is a dynamics of SIN-PUNISHMENT-REPENTANCE-FORGIVENESS. Such a history, on the one hand, exposes the weakness of man. On the other hand, it manifests God's abundant love. That is why Christoph Schwöbel calls the whole process of reconciliation of man to God "the logic of love," which is expressed powerfully in Scriptures through the images of blood: the blood of animals in the Old Testament and especially the blood, poured out on the cross, of the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (see Jn 1:29). To be precise, with the use of the historical hermeneutic method of research in different Chapters of the study, the researcher has carried out his investigation. The study has offered the following findings: first, as history unfolds, the concept of "blood" has been used in human early history. However, the concept of "blood" gains a deeper meaning and significance in Judaism and Christianity (Chapter II) ; second, reconciliation is one of the prominent themes in Catholic theology. It deals with the reality of man's sin and God's love. It comprises two dimensions: Liturgical and Trinitarian (Chapter III) ; third, we believe that God created man in order that man may participate in the life and glory of God. However, man has sinned. Hence, there is a need of reconciliation. God has made this reconciliation available to man through the precious Blood of His Only Begotten Son. (Chapter IV). The author hopes that with this investigation, there will be a deeper realization among Christians about the power of the blood of Jesus poured out on the cross for the forgiveness of sins. Consequently, there would be a transformation in the way they relate to God and in their readiness to forgive one another.

Book excerpt: In this exciting sequel to the book The Good News of Jesus Christ, we are given the opportunity to learn about the life of Jesus Christ through the pictures God draws within real-life snowflakes. Author and macro photographer Melissa N. Robertson brings creative insight into the life that Jesus Christ lived and how it pertains to living out the Christian life. In this inspiring, moving, and unforgettable book, the life of a Christian is focused on that of a fisherman out fishing for new people to come and join in the grace, love, and forgiveness given by God through His Son, Jesus Christ. The book invites all people to read, remember, and learn from the life and examples of Jesus Christ so all may live a life full of understanding, joy, and peace within Christianity. Enjoy the journey written in the book most read throughout history, the Holy Bible, and see it come to life in a way people have never imagined. Come and learn what it means to be a Christian and a fisher of people through the life of Jesus Christ. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight-- if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven. (Colossians 1:19-23 NKJV)
