Book Synopsis Gas Turbine Parameter Corrections by : Allan J. Volponi
Download or read book Gas Turbine Parameter Corrections written by Allan J. Volponi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-29 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume provides an exhaustive catalog of common standard day corrections for gas turbine gas path parameters, explores their history, and, most importantly, provides a mathematical framework for the derivation of these important normalization factors. Although use of these corrections is common practice within industry, government, and academia, their genesis, and, in particular, how they can be derived from simple principles, is not general knowledge among many of those who use them on a regular basis. This book elucidates calculation of these important coefficients. Standing as a one-stop source on derivations and a methodology for additional parameter correction refinements, Gas Turbine Parameter Corrections, is ideal as a desk reference for practitioners and researchers, as well as supplemental instruction for university courses on gas turbine performance, control, and DPHM (diagnostics, prognostics and health management).

Book Synopsis Gas Turbine Diagnostics by : Ranjan Ganguli
Download or read book Gas Turbine Diagnostics written by Ranjan Ganguli and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-12-13 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Widely used for power generation, gas turbine engines are susceptible to faults due to the harsh working environment. Most engine problems are preceded by a sharp change in measurement deviations compared to a baseline engine, but the trend data of these deviations over time are contaminated with noise and non-Gaussian outliers. Gas Turbine Diagnostics: Signal Processing and Fault Isolation presents signal processing algorithms to improve fault diagnosis in gas turbine engines, particularly jet engines. The algorithms focus on removing noise and outliers while keeping the key signal features that may indicate a fault. The book brings together recent methods in data filtering, trend shift detection, and fault isolation, including several novel approaches proposed by the author. Each method is demonstrated through numerical simulations that can be easily performed by the reader. Coverage includes: Filters for gas turbines with slow data availability Hybrid filters for engines equipped with faster data monitoring systems Nonlinear myriad filters for cases where monitoring of transient data can lead to better fault detection Innovative nonlinear filters for data cleaning developed using optimization methods An edge detector based on gradient and Laplacian calculations A process of automating fault isolation using a bank of Kalman filters, fuzzy logic systems, neural networks, and genetic fuzzy systems when an engine model is available An example of vibration-based diagnostics for turbine blades to complement the performance-based methods Using simple examples, the book describes new research tools to more effectively isolate faults in gas turbine engines. These algorithms may also be useful for condition and health monitoring in other systems where sharp changes in measurement data indicate the onset of a fault.
Book Synopsis Combustion and Heat Transfer in Gas Turbine Systems by : E. R. Norster
Download or read book Combustion and Heat Transfer in Gas Turbine Systems written by E. R. Norster and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combustion and Heat Transfer in Gas Turbine Systems is a compilation of papers from the Proceedings of an International Propulsion Symposium held at the College of Aeronautics, Cranfield in April 1969. This compilation deals with research done by academic and scientific institutions and of industrial organizations, with some research papers covering atomization, fuels, and high-temperature materials. One paper describes the combustion system of the Concorde engine used in commercial flights, temperature of metal parts, and some design modifications to increase the mechanical life of the combustion system. Another paper discusses the evolution of the RB 162 combustion system that is used in the vertical takeoff and landing aircrafts. The RB 162 has many design features of the earlier single reversal chamber and differs in only one or two points. The book then notes the necessity of a plenum chamber burning to further development of supersonic engines and flight. One paper also proposes an alternative theory to the traditional ignition theory of altitude relighting such as those developed by Lewis and von Elbe. Another paper reposts on some observations made of the atomizing characteristics of air-blast atomizers and proposes simple changes to improve the performance of the atomizer by prefilming and allowing air to both sides of the fuel. This compilation will prove very helpful for aeronautical engineers, aviation designers, physicists, students of engineering, and readers who are interested in the design and development of jet engines and supersonic aircrafts.

Book excerpt: Cranfield International Symposium Series, Volume 10: Combustion in Advanced Gas Turbine Systems covers the proceedings of an International Propulsion Symposium, held at the College of Aeronautics in Cranfield in April 1967. The book focuses on the processes, methodologies, reactions, and transformations involved in chemical combustion. The selection first takes a look at the design considerations in advanced gas turbine combustion chambers, combustion in industrial gas turbines, and combustion development on the Rolls-Royce Spey engine. Discussions focus on mechanical condition, carbon-formation and exhaust smoke, system requirements, fuel oil ash deposition and corrosion, combustion-system design, performance requirements, types of primary zone, fuel injection, and combustion chamber types. The text then examines subsonic flow flameholder studies using a low pressure simulation technique; stabilization of hydrogen diffusion flames by flame-holders in supersonic flow at low stagnation temperatures; and augmentation systems for turbofan engines. The book takes a look at a consideration of the possible use of refractory ceramic materials for advanced combustion chamber design; cooling of flame tubes by steam injection; and combustion problems in the massive steam injection gas turbine. The selection is a valuable source of information for researchers interested in the process of combustion in advanced gas turbine systems.

Book Synopsis Planar Optical Measurement Methods for Gas Turbine Components by :
Download or read book Planar Optical Measurement Methods for Gas Turbine Components written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Lecture Series covers the recent advances of planar optical measurement techniques with respect to their applicability to gas turbine component tests. During the last years much progress has been achieved in various known techniques, and new methods have been developed from which a significant increase of the experimental output of propulsion tests and therefore remarkable cost reduction can be expected. To bring this status into the knowledge of the propulsion specialists is the aim of this lecture series. Its theme is focused on laser measurement methods for the analysis of the internal flow and reaction processes in propulsion engines. It will address techniques for the measurement of flow velocity, flow density, pressure, temperature and species concentration. Only those methods are introduced which are far enough developed to be applicable to the rough test conditions of propulsion experiments. The course will inform the audience about the fundamentals of the advanced measurement techniques, as well as demonstrate their use in the context of practical applications. The material in this publication was collected from the research centers of the different NATO nations.
Book Synopsis Flashback Mechanisms in Lean Premixed Gas Turbine Combustion by : Ali Cemal Benim
