Those diamonds were to help the child to grow as a complete man or woman. Those diamonds could help the child to get rooted deep down and to rise above the sky. They could enlarge the personality of child in all dimensions. But we don’t realize that how precious those diamonds are. We don’t encourage the child to be careful with those diamonds. And unfortunately we make the child to lose those diamonds. Recollecting those diamonds of your childhood will take you back when you were a child and you had all those qualities. It will reopen all the doors of development, which are closed since your childhood. Then you won’t be the same you. Then you will desire to discover the real you. In this book I have shared about six of those diamonds, which I had in my childhood. Read this book and you would start looking for your diamonds. Happy reading! Book excerpt: The eleventh Peter Diamond mystery from the master of crime fiction, Peter Lovesey. There's plenty of drama, of the wrong kind, when a fading pop star wanting to launch an acting career at Bath's Theatre Royal gets taken to hospital with third degree burns. In the best theatrical tradition, the show goes on, but the agony turns to murder. Bath's top detective, Peter Diamond, is on the case - but for reasons he can't understand, he suffers a physical reaction amounting to phobia each time he goes near the theatre. Before he can find the killer, he must face his own demons...

Book excerpt: The Black Diamond is the sixth book in the saga. This time Juan is born in Lesotho, South Africa. As his immortal spirit continues to live on, he is able to vividly recall his eternal past and cannot understand why whites despise men of his race. His father Moshoeshoei, king of the Basotho, instructs him in the art of government and in the subtleties of diplomacy. His mother, offspring of Chaka Zulu, wants to end her peoples suffering and wishes that his son will dedicate his life to save their bodies and spirits. The protagonists principle desire is the same as that of all his other lives - to find the woman that was created with him at the beginning of time. Maluti and Tineke sense each other's existence and recognize that they are a couple of kindred spirits who prowl about the world in search of love; but they never meet. The novel takes place during a difficult time in Africa. Gold and diamonds are discovered. The descendants of the Dutch struggled to rise from the tyranny of England as the blacks fight to preserve their homeland. The British Empire, which is under the auspices of a brotherhood, appears to be unbeatable as it is filled wealth of the seven continents, usurping the natural resources in the seas by attacking ships of Spain, Holland, China and India. After centuries of ideological conflicts and social, religious and political differences, the nations distance themselves. The weapons become more sophisticated and, although the science improves, diseases decimate men and animals. Gradually the planet is invaded by the human species that threatens to destroy everything in its path, including a variety of almost extinct birds, fish, reptiles and mammals.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A stunning, powerful debut novel set against the backdrop of the Cambodian War, perfect for fans of Chris Cleave and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie For seven-year-old Raami, the shattering end of childhood begins with the footsteps of her father returning home in the early dawn hours bringing details of the civil war that has overwhelmed the streets of Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital. Soon the family's world of carefully guarded royal privilege is swept up in the chaos of revolution and forced exodus. Over the next four years, as she endures the deaths of family members, starvation, and brutal forced labour, Raami clings to the only remaining vestige of childhood - the mythical legends and poems told to her by her father. In a climate of systematic violence where memory is sickness and justification for execution, Raami fights for her improbable survival. Displaying the author's extraordinary gift for language, In the Shadow of the Banyanis testament to the transcendent power of narrative and a brilliantly wrought tale of human resilience. 'In the Shadow of the Banyanis one of the most extraordinary and beautiful acts of storytelling I have ever encountered' Chris Cleave, author of The Other Hand 'Ratner is a fearless writer, and the novel explores important themes such as power, the relationship between love and guilt, and class. Most remarkably, it depicts the lives of characters forced to live in extreme circumstances, and investigates how that changes them. To read In the Shadow of the Banyan is to be left with a profound sense of being witness to a tragedy of history' Guardian 'This is an extraordinary debut … as beautiful as it is heartbreaking' Mail on Sunday

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Left alone to raise four children following a bitter divorce, Balderes Alvarez's life careened on a path of self-destruction. Today, she is a wife, the mother, and stepmother of six adult children and eight grandchildren. She holds a master's degree in theology and is a preacher and teacher at her church. She also speaks at churches and other venues, sharing with others both the tragic and wonderful details of her life's journey. Remove the names and dates, and her story could be that of any woman who, when faced with rejection, abandonment, and loneliness, is left with daunting choices to make. Balderes's choices led her to a dark life of addiction and neglect where she lost sight of the light of God piercing through. But thanks be to God, he did break through and brought about forgiveness, miraculous healing, and complete deliverance. Balderes's biographical sketch offers women truths about the power of God to break through and unveil the diamond that each life can be. Whatever the circumstance, however badly battered, no life is beyond the transforming power of our Divine Diamond Cutter. Every lost and suffering soul is a diamond in the rough. The question for the reader: are you ready to be unveiled?

Book excerpt: The idea of this women's magazine originated with Samuel Williams, a Cincinnati Methodist, who thought that Christian women needed a magazine less worldly than Godey's Lady's Book and Snowden's Lady's Companion. Written largely by ministers, this exceptionally well-printed little magazine contained well-written essays of a moral character, plenty of poetry, articles on historical and scientific matters, and book reviews. Among western writers were Alice Cary, who contributed over a hundred sketches and poems, her sister Phoebe Cary, Otway Curry, Moncure D. Conway, and Joshua R. Giddings; and New England contributors included Mrs. Lydia Sigourney, Hannah F. Gould, and Julia C.R Dorr. By 1851, each issue published a peice of music and two steel plates, usually landscapes or portraits. When Davis E. Clark took over the editorship in 1853, the magazine became brighter and attained a circulation of 40,000. Unlike his predecessors, Clark included fictional pieces and made the Repository a magazine for the whole family. After the war it began to decline and in 1876 was replaced by the National Repository. The Ladies' Repository was an excellent representative of the Methodist mind and heart. Its essays, sketches, and poems, its good steel engravings, and its moral tone gave it a charm all its own. -- Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
