Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of favorite recipes from members of Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Some of these recipes have been handed down for generations; even back to our pioneer ancestors, and many we got from watching our mothers and grandmothers prepare meals and those oh so special desserts. Some of these recipes have never been written down, simply passed down, sometimes by trial and error, from generation to generation. Through this book we would like to share our recipes, some of them a secret until now, with our fellow bakers and cooks, as well as friends and family. We have included several recipes for dishes that are somewhat unique to Utah: Frog Eye Salad, Funeral Potatoes, Green Jello Salad, Ambrosia Salad and anything made in a Dutch oven or crock pot. Dixie Salad, a recipe that is unique to Southern Utah is also included.

This book was released on 2015-10-20 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Southern cooking meets the Brooklyn foodie scene, keeping charm (and grits) intact Georgia native Nicole Taylor spent her early twenties trying to distance herself from her southern cooking roots--a move "up" to Brooklyn gave her a fresh appreciation for the bread and biscuits, Classic Fried Chicken, Lemon Coconut Stack Cake, and other flavors of her childhood. The Up South Cookbook is a bridge to the past and a door to the future. The recipes in this deeply personal cookbook offer classic Southern favorites informed and updated by newly-discovered ingredients and different cultures. Here she gives us pimento cheese elevated with a dollop of creme fraiche, grits flavored with New York State Cheddar and blue cheese, and deviled eggs made with smoked trout from her favorite Jewish deli. Other favorites include Collard Greens Pesto and Pasta, Roasted Duck with Cheerwine Cherry Sauce, and Benne and Banana Sandwich Cookies. The recipes speak to a place "where a story is ready to be told and there is always sweet tea chilling." This promises to be a new Southern classic.

Download or read book My Life in Recipes written by Joan Nathan and published by Knopf. This book was released on 2024-04-09 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new cookbook from the best-selling and award-winning author that uses recipes to look back at her life and family history—and at her personal journey discovering Jewish cuisine from around the world "There is no greater authority on Jewish cooking than Joan Nathan." —Michael Solomonov, James Beard award-winning chef and author of Zahav Before hummus was available in every grocery store—before shakshuka was a dish on every brunch menu—Joan Nathan taught home cooks how and why they should make these now-beloved staples themselves. Here, in her most personal book yet, the beloved authority on global Jewish cuisine uses recipes to look back at her own family’s history— their arrival in America from Germany; her childhood in postwar New York and Rhode Island; her years in Paris, New York, Israel, and Washington, DC. Nathan shares her story—of marriage, motherhood, and a career as a food writer; of a life well-lived and centered around meals—and she punctuates it with all the foods she has come to love. With over 100 recipes from roast chicken to rugelach, from matzoh ball soup to challah and brisket, here are updated versions of her favorites. But here too are new favorites: Salmon with Preserved Lemon and Za’atar; Fragrant Spiced Chicken with Rice, Eggplant, Peppers, and Zucchini; Mahammar (a Syrian pepper, pomegranate and walnut dip); Moroccan Chicken with Almonds, Cinnamon and Couscous; Joan’s version of the perfect Black and White Cookies. This is a treasury of recipes and stories—and an invitation to a seat at Nathan's table.
