Tras un primer bloque en el que se enmarca la gastronomía extremeña en sus coordenadas históricas y culturales, incorpora la obra una selección de más de doscientas recetas (entre ellas, cerca de setenta de repostería), que aparecen explicadas y detalladas, además de con indicaciones para su correcta preparación, con abundantes datos léxicos, referencias literarias y del cancionero popular y apuntes históricos: cabrito, caldereta, lagarto, ranas rebozadas, hornazo, gazpacho, migas, lamprea en escabeche o aceitunas guisás... Para completar este itinerario histórico, etnológico y gastronómico sobre Extremadura, se incluye un apartado final con términos del léxico popular extremeño.
