Book Synopsis Structural refinement of single crystals using digital-large angle convergent beam electron diffraction by : AJM Hubert
Download or read book Structural refinement of single crystals using digital-large angle convergent beam electron diffraction written by AJM Hubert and published by University of Warwick. This book was released on 2019-09-25 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We explore the capability of digital-large angle convergent beam electron diffraction (D-LACBED) data for the structural refinement of single crystals. To achieve this, we use three materials as test cases. We use corundum for atomic position refi nement, copper and gallium arsenide for Debye-Waller factor (DWF) re finement. D-LACBED patterns are found to be extremely sensitive to atomic position, within 0.4 pm of reference X-ray values. The patterns are less sensitive to DWF (using the independent atom model - IAM) but nonetheless give good agreement to X-ray and Mossbauer radiation values for copper. We find the IAM to be insufficient for accurate refinement of gallium arsenide due to the influence of previously suggested strong anharmonicity and bonding within the material. Finally, we use simulation to explore the sensitivity of D-LACBED patterns through most re fineable structural parameters, providing context to the aforementioned results. During the analysis we see that higher g-vector patterns within the D-LACBED data may be more sensitive to structural parameters in general.

Book Synopsis Educational Inequalities by : Kalwant Bhopal
Download or read book Educational Inequalities written by Kalwant Bhopal and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-07 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While there is considerable literature on social inequality and education, there is little recent work which explores notions of difference and diversity in relation to "race," class and gender. This edited text aims to bring together researchers in the field of education located across many international contexts such as the UK, Australia, USA, New Zealand and Europe. Contributors investigate the ways in which dominant perspectives on "difference," intersectionality and institutional structures underpin and reinforce educational inequality in schools and higher education. They emphasize the importance of international perspectives and innovative methodological approaches to examining these areas, and seek to locate the dimensions of difference within recent theoretical discourses, with an emphasis on "race," class and gender as key categories of analysis.
Book Synopsis Marriage and the Family by : John Prickett
Download or read book Marriage and the Family written by John Prickett and published by James Clarke & Co.. This book was released on 1985 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marriage and the Family presents an account of attitudes to marriage and the family in each of the major religious faiths - the Christian, Jewish, Moslem, Baha'i, Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist faiths - and includes the Humanist views of marriage and the family. Each article is written by a member of the respective faith and includes an account of the particular faith portrayed. The material available in English for such ceremonies varies greatly in different faiths. For example, Buddhist marriage ceremonies are mainly of recent date and have emerged in the West where such ceremonies are presented here in en English translation probably for the first time. The book is introduced with an essay by Professor Ronald Fletcher on the rapidly changing attitudes to marriage and an assessment of their significance. Janet Trotter follows his essay with a description of the legal problems by ethnic minorities in Britain.

Book excerpt: Since 1989, initial teacher training courses in England and Wales have recognized the need for teachers to take a lead in a school subject area in their first appointment. There is no longer a place for a primary school teacher (newly qualified or not) whose sole responsibility is his or her own class. Further, a teacher must have specific specialist knowledge and expertise in particular subjects which must be disseminated to the rest of the staff. A teacher also needs to develop the skills of communication, leadership and persuasion.
