Book excerpt: Excerpt from Recent Changes in the Citrus Industry of Israel In the next 8 years the present acres of bearing groves will provide the commercial production, which may be expected to approximate boxes of oranges, boxes of grapefruit, and boxes of lemons. There will not be any marked change in production until acreage yet to be planted begins to come into bearing in 1960. Then orange production may increase to about boxes per year. Restricted production Will limit the importance of the processing industry in the next 10 years unless unusual difficulties are encountered in marketing fresh fruit. At the production levels which Will prevail it may be expected that approximately boxes of oranges, boxes of grapefruit, and boxes of lemons Will be used for process ing. The most important product will be 65 Brix orange Jce concentrate which will be supplied to the British Ministry of Food for the child health program. About pounds of this product may be expected to be available for export in a normal year until 1958. Because of reduced citrus supplies, many citrus processing plants are canning other food items to utilize plant capacity. This is the most significant recent change. Experimentation is being carried on to develop a non-alcohol method of producing pectin and there is some experimentation in progress on frozen concentrates and dehydrated peel. The presence of the Mediterranean fruit fly prevents the production of high quality orange juice. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Recent Changes in the Citrus Industry in Spain Lemon production, too, is expected to increase. If no frost checks the increase in this fruit, the annual crop could reach 22 million boxes by 1955 and 32 million by 1960. A sustained increase is a greater certainty for lemons than for oranges and tangerines because most lemons are p in the murcia district, where the frost hazard is less production of lemons in Spain, therefore, will probably boxes per year in the next 5 years and reach poor cultural practices in1 3' About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Synopsis Citrus Production by : Sajjad Hussain
Download or read book Citrus Production written by Sajjad Hussain and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-12-29 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The citrus industry is one of the world's most important fruit production industries, but global climate change, pests, diseases, and improper handling are affecting plant yields. Citrus Production: Technological Advancements and Adaptation to Changing Climate presents information on advancements in the citrus industry examining various aspects of citrus from its production to harvest. It looks at the challenges and approaches in stress tolerance improvements, increasing citrus crop productivity, and reducing postharvest losses. The book details taxonomy, genetic diversity, and metabolic and molecular responses in citrus crops, as well as abiotic and biotic stresses affecting citrus production. Featuring numerous full-color illustrations throughout, this book poses new harvesting techniques along with postharvest physiology of citrus fruits, devising strategies to prevent crop losses. Citrus Production: Technological Advancements and Adaptation to Changing Climate is an essential resource for researchers, academicians, and scientists looking to expand their knowledge of citrus, particularly horticulturists, food scientists, and botanists.

This book was released on 2010-04-15 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Citrus greening, a disease that reduces yield, compromises the flavor, color, and size of citrus fruit and eventually kills the citrus tree, is now present in all 34 Floridian citrus-producing counties. Caused by an insect-spread bacterial infection, the disease reduced citrus production in 2008 by several percent and continues to spread, threatening the existence of Florida's $9.3 billion citrus industry. A successful citrus greening response will focus on earlier detection of diseased trees, so that these sources of new infections can be removed more quickly, and on new methods to control the insects that carry the bacteria. In the longerterm, technologies such as genomics could be used to develop new citrus strains that are resistant to both the bacteria and the insect.

Download or read book The Genus Citrus written by Manuel Talon and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2020-01-21 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Genus Citrus presents the enormous amount of new knowledge that has been generated in recent years on nearly all topics related to citrus. Beginning with an overview of the fundamental principles and understanding of citrus biology and behavior, the book provides a comprehensive view from Citrus evolution to current market importance. Reporting on new insights supported by the elucidation of the citrus genome sequence, it presents groundbreaking theories and fills in previous knowledge gaps. Because citrus is among the most difficult plants to improve through traditional breeding, citrus researchers, institutions and industries must quickly learn to adapt to new developments, knowledge and technologies to address the biological constraints of a unique fruit-tree such as citrus. Despite the challenges of working with citrus, tremendous progress has been made, mostly through advances in molecular biology and genomics. This book is valuable for all those involved with researching and advancing, producing, processing, and delivering citrus products. Includes the most current research on citrus genomic information Provides the first detailed description of citrus origin, a new proposal for citrus taxonomy, and a redefinition of the genus Citrus Details citrus challenges including climate change, global disease impacts, and plant improvement strategies
