Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Devil, Satan, Lucifer, Mephistopheles - throughout history the Prince of Darkness, the Western world's most powerful symbol of evil, has taken many names and shapes. Jeffrey Burton Russell here chronicles the remarkable story of the Devil from antiquity to the present. While recounting how past generations have personified evil, he deepens our understanding of the ways in which people have dealt with the enduring problem of radical evil. After a compelling essay on the nature of evil, Russell uncovers the origins of the concept of the Devil in various early cultures and then traces its evolution in Western thought from the time of the ancient Hebrews through the first centuries of the Christian era. Next he turns to the medieval view of the Devil, focusing on images found in folklore, scholastic thought, art, literature, mysticism, and witchcraft. Finally, he follows the Devil into our own era, where he draws on examples from theology, philosophy, art, literature, and popular culture to describe the great changes in this traditional notion of evil brought about by the intellectual and cultural developments of modern times. Is the Devil an outmoded superstition, as most educated people today believe? Or do the horrors of the twentieth century and the specter of nuclear war make all too clear the continuing need for some vital symbol of radical evil? A single-volume distillation of Russell's epic tetralogy on the nature and personifcation of evil from ancient times to the present (published by Cornell University Press between 1977 and 1986), The Prince of Darkness invites readers to confront these and other critical questions as they explore the past faces of that figure who has been called the second most famous personage in Christianity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The devil (Satan) has been able to fool the church and Christians ever since the early church went to bed with Rome around AD 330 under Emperor Constantine, who supposedly had a conversion to Christianity. The pagan religion brought all the false teachings and false gods all the way back to Egypt. And that system is just as false today. Repeatedly God warned the Jews in the Old and New Testaments that there are no gods but He alone. Yet we're still taught that by a rebellion Lucifer and Satan fell from heaven, which would make them gods. But the scripture verse in 1 Samuel 15:23 states specifically "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft." And there is absolutely no sin in the third heaven or there would be death in heaven. So the title To Hell with the Devil: It's Time to Blow the Lid Off Lucifer's Coffin. This will certainly make Satan uncontrollable mad and upset if this book comes to publication. He does not like being exposed as the complete liar that he has been from the beginning. Unfortunately, because of the past presidential election of 2020, he has managed to get his foot in the door of the US government. But he won't be satisfied until he takes over the entire USA. And as long as Christians and Patriots remain silent, it will all be over but the shouting. What I have written from the word of God only is the absolute truth. But as our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ said to those Serpents (Sadducees and Pharisees) in John 8:40, "But now you seek to kill me, a man that has told you the truth which I heard of God." And as the apostle Paul said in 2 Timothy 4:3-4, "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine but after their own lusts shall heap to themselves teachers having itching ears and they will turn from the truth and shall and shall be turned unto fables." That is certainly what has happened in our time. But Satan's ultimate goal is the complete destruction of God's church.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Christians think of end times prophecy as a gigantic, intimidating puzzle -- difficult to piece together and impossible to figure out. But every puzzle can be solved if you approach it the right way. Paul Benware compares prophecy to a picture puzzle. Putting the edge pieces together first builds the 'framework' that makes it easier to fit the other pieces in their place. According to Benware, the framework for eschatology is the biblical covenants. He begins his comprehensive survey by explaining the major covenants. Then he discusses several different interpretations of end times prophecy. Benware digs into the details of the Rapture, the Great Tribulation, the judgements and resurrections, and the millennial kingdom. But he also adds a unique, personal element to the study, answering questions as: -Why study bible prophecy? -What difference does it make if I'm premillenial or amillenial? If what the Bible says about the future puzzles you, Understanding End Times Prophecy will help you put together the pieces and see the big picture.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Rebellion of Hell: A Poem Like the epic poets I have mingled throughout, the probable and improbable, in art. Homer in his Iliad mixes mortals and immortals, that is, men and women, with gods and goddesses; the first being the probable and the last the improbable. When Neptune rides through the sea to the shore for the purpose of inspiring the troops by means of a speech, and when Venus with wounded hand from the battlefield mounts weeping to heaven, we know that, while such things are improbable, they are necessary to carry on the main design of Homer. Virgil is a reflection of the Greek. The Catholic epics, Dante and Tasso, and the Protestant, Milton, have each used different forms of the improbable, all of which are unlike those of the Iliad. Tasso has his spells and enchantments, Dante his shades and angels, Milton his personal god and devil, and each a mixture of all. But modern Christianity requires another form of expression in heroic poetry aside from any of these. As is seen in The Rebellion, both Heaven and hell are considered as present conditions of mind, divided into the Spiritual and carnal, and fought accordingly. That much is strictly metaphysical, thoughts taking human shape and going about as men; and this, according to art, is the improbable. But there is something else. Book excerpt: ?As I sat down to write this story, its basic themes had been much on my mind for a very long time: What did it look like from heaven when God created all things? What did it look like when Lucifer rebelled and was thrown out of heaven? What motivated him? I've also been fascinated by God's Destroying angel, Abaddon, who appears many times in the Bible. I've wondered what he must be like. Unlike certain Biblical scholars, I do not believe Abaddon is evil. While the Book of Revelation mentions that he is the ruler of the abyss, the ultimate ruler of the abyss is God Himself, and God is not evil. Rather, every time Abaddon appears in scripture, he is doing precisely what God has told him to do. That is how he appears in Revelation 21, unleashing the forces of evil on the earth to bring about mankind's end, just as God foretold through the prophets.1 Speaking of evil, this story also deals with its origin. It states unequivocally that God created the devil and the demons that live in hell. How could that be, one of my readers asked? How could a good, righteous and holy God create these evil beings? Well, I can't explain why He did it; but I do know that He did do it, because this is absolutely unequivocally stated by God Himself in Scripture. For example, He says in Isaiah 45: 6b-7: "I am the LORD, and there is no

Lutzer takes us to the corners of Scripture to which we seldom go. With surprising insights and potent quotes at every turn, God’s Devil will: Teach you how Satan fits into God’s great plans for the world Give you confidence in God’s everlasting victory over Satan Equip you to withstand Satan’s schemes against you Martin Luther once said, “Even the Devil is God’s devil.” So while this is a book about Satan, it is even more about God’s sovereign power over him. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most evangelical Christians believe that those people who are not saved before they die will be punished in hell forever. But is this what the Bible truly teaches? Do Christians need to rethink their understanding of hell? In the late twentieth century, a growing number of evangelical theologians, biblical scholars, and philosophers began to reject the traditional doctrine of eternal conscious torment in hell in favor of a minority theological perspective called conditional immortality. This view contends that the unsaved are resurrected to face divine judgment, just as Christians have always believed, but due to the fact that immortality is only given to those who are in Christ, the unsaved do not exist forever in hell. Instead, they face the punishment of the "second death"--an end to their conscious existence. This volume brings together excerpts from a variety of well-respected evangelical thinkers, including John Stott, John Wenham, and E. Earl Ellis, as they articulate the biblical, theological, and philosophical arguments for conditionalism. These readings will give thoughtful Christians strong evidence that there are indeed compelling reasons for rethinking hell.
