Therefore, monitoring this condition is paramount to alert drivers, and to avoid fatal accidents. A hardware design to detect the drowsiness is proposed in this thesis and the outputs to justify the thesis is simulated in LT Spice. The drowsiness of the driver is associated with an immediate change in their heart rate. Electrocardiogram (ECG) is used to detect accurate heart rate and hence, used as a parameter in the proposed design. The proposed design consists of a non-contact ECG sensor as an input source and a circuit with a two-stage amplifier to improve the strength of the ECG signal and filters to minimize the noise. A maximum peak ECG output voltage of about 2.8V is obtained in LT Spice. The resulting ECG output is sufficient to detect the drowsiness of a driver and prevents major accidents.
