This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From a series of studies of the reaction of oxygen atoms with unsaturated hydrocarbons using the crossed molecular beam method, the dominant reaction mechanisms were found to be the simple substitution reactions with oxygen atoms replacing H, Cl, Br atom or alkyl groups. Complication due to secondary reaction was avoided by carrying out experiments under single collisions and observing primary products directly. Primary products were identified by measuring the angular and velocity distributions of products at all the mass numbers which could be detected by the mass spectrometer, and from comparison of these distributions, applying the requirement of energy and momentum conservation.

Download or read book Crossed-molecular-beams Reactive Scattering of Oxygen Atoms written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reactions of O(3P) with six prototypical unsaturated hydrocarbons, and the reaction of O(1D) with HD, have been studied in high-resolution crossed-molecular-beams scattering experiments with mass-spectrometric detection. The observed laboratory-product angular and velocity distributions unambiguously identify parent-daughter ion pairs, distinguish different neutral sources of the same ion, and have been used to identify the primary products of the reactions. The derived center-of-mass product angular and translational energy distributions have been used to elucidate the detailed reaction dynamics. These results demonstrate that O(3P)-unsaturated hydrocarbon chemistry is dominated by single bond cleavages, leading to radical products exclusively.

Download or read book The Chemistry of Oxygen written by E. A. V. Ebsworth and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-06 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemistry of Oxygen deals with the chemistry of oxygen and covers topics ranging from atoms and ions to oxides, water, and oxygen fluorides. Hydrogen peroxide, peroxides and related compounds, and ozone and related species are also discussed, along with other species containing O3 and O4 groups. This book is comprised of nine chapters and opens with a historical background on oxygen, including its discovery, as well as its properties, isotopes, occurrence and extraction, toxic effects, and production and uses. The next chapter is devoted to oxygen atoms and ions, with emphasis on the reactions of ionized species derived from oxygen atoms and molecules. The reader is then introduced to oxides and their acid-base character, structure, allotropy, thermodynamics, and geometrical effects; physical and chemical properties of water; chemical and physical properties of oxygen fluorides; and hydrogen peroxide, its properties, molecular structure, and uses. Subsequent chapters focus on peroxides and related compounds; ozone and related species; and other species containing O3 and O4 groups. This monograph will be a valuable source of information for inorganic chemists.

This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: hemistry is the science about breaking and forming of bonds between atoms. One of the most important processes for organic chemistry is breaking bonds C–H, as well as C–C in various compounds, and primarily, in hydrocarbons. Among hydrocarbons, saturated hydrocarbons, alkanes (methane, ethane, propane, hexane etc. ), are especially attractive as substrates for chemical transformations. This is because, on the one hand, alkanes are the main constituents of oil and natural gas, and consequently are the principal feedstocks for chemical industry. On the other hand, these substances are known to be the less reactive organic compounds. Saturated hydrocarbons may be called the “noble gases of organic chemistry” and, if so, the first representative of their family – methane – may be compared with extremely inert helium. As in all comparisons, this parallel between noble gases and alkanes is not fully accurate. Indeed the transformations of alkanes, including methane, have been known for a long time. These reactions involve the interaction with molecular oxygen from air (burning – the main source of energy!), as well as some mutual interconversions of saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons. However, all these transformations occur at elevated temperatures (higher than 300–500 °C) and are usually characterized by a lack of selectivity. The conversion of alkanes into carbon dioxide and water during burning is an extremely valuable process – but not from a chemist viewpoint.

Download or read book Some Reactions of Oxygen Atoms. Volume I: C2f4, C3f6, C2h2, C2h4, C3h6, 1-c4h8, C2h6, C-c3h6, and C3h8 written by Dennis Saunders and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oxygen atoms were generated from the mercury--sensitized decomposition of N2O in the presence of C2F4 or C3F6 or hydrocarbon-perfluoroolefin mixtures at 25, 70 and 125 degrees. With C2F4, CF2O is produced with a quantum yield of 1.0 for all conditions. With C3F6, phi (CF3CFO) is about 0.14 for all conditions, but phi (CF2O) drops from 0.86 at 25 degrees to 0.64 at 125 degrees. The competitive studies with hydrocarbons gave rate parameters, which are tabulated. The hydrocarbons studies are C2H2, C2H4, C3H6, 1-C4H8, C2H6, c-C3H6, and C3H8. Results agree reasonably well with some of the previous work.
