Book excerpt: The amazing New York Times bestseller about what you can do when life gives you a second chance. Chase's memory just went out the window. Chase doesn't remember falling off the roof. He doesn't remember hitting his head. He doesn't, in fact, remember anything. He wakes up in a hospital room and suddenly has to learn his whole life all over again . . . starting with his own name. He knows he's Chase. But who is Chase? When he gets back to school, he sees that different kids have very different reactions to his return. Some kids treat him like a hero. Some kids are clearly afraid of him. One girl in particular is so angry with him that she pours her frozen yogurt on his head the first chance she gets. Pretty soon, it's not only a question of who Chase is -- it's a question of who he was . . . and who he's going to be. From the #1 bestselling author of Swindle and Slacker, Restart is the spectacular story of a kid with a messy past who has to figure out what it means to get a clean start.

Book excerpt: ''The world was always a beautiful place to live in.'' This saying is speculated by the lives other than that of the humans. A thought about the world being turned into a materialistic one created solely for the benefit of humans alone, for them to love, live and perish in glory. Every country, city, culture, or kingdom, in their pinnacle of decadence, there emerges a factor that wipes out all that was affected, in due course, the factor in itself and paves way for the good, kind and the righteous to take over the future. Similarly, a situation arises when the other lives realize that the world has to be reinstated and there could be a fresh start in order to establish a free and happier world for everyone. The book is a work of fantasy fiction, from the eyes of the lives other than the humans, depicting decadence and the rise of a noble kingdom that served well to all.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever had the feeling that you're treading water professionally; that you're coming up against limits in terms of what you can achieve? If so, says Christian Greiser, it might be high time to take some time out. Careers progress through distinct phases: we climb the career ladder, we change direction or set up a business and, eventually, we retire. As different as these phases are, so too are the rules of success that govern them. If we are to keep succeeding, we must mentally 'shift gears' and realign ourselves accordingly along the way. We must take an honest and sometimes challenging look at our own character: understanding the inner driving forces behind our previous successes, questioning our patterns of behaviour and discarding the behaviours that no longer serve us. In this way, we can accomplish the transition to the next phase of our life and career and come back stronger than before. Passionate 'career technician' Christian Greiser is here to help us do just that. In this humorously written new book, he draws on insights from his many years of experience as an executive coach and incorporates research findings, case studies and exercises to show how we can reset our mental attitude and achieve success and fulfilment in the next phase.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A behind-the-scenes look at the aeronautical engineers who keep the skies safe. Many are surprised to learn that flying is, statistically, the safest means of transportation. Even less well known is the crucial role that flight test observers and engineers play in ensuring that level of safety. In this book, one of them recounts his experience as an aeronautical engineer working in partnership with test pilots, painting a vivid portrait of his flight-testing career from the 1960s to early 1980s at Avro and the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). During the author’s time at Avro, he flew on the development and certification test flights of the Avro 748, 748MF, Shackletons, Nimrod, and Handley-Page Victor tanker. In the CAA, his role turned to regulation, making flight test assessments of manufacturer’s prototypes and production aircraft, to check compliance with the CAA’s flight safety requirements. The scope ranged from single-engine light aircraft to large civil transport aircraft. It involved frequent visits to foreign manufacturers and also included his participation in the CAA’s Concorde certification flight test program. Advancements in the understanding of aerodynamics and an increasingly professional approach to risk management improved safety, but flight testing still involves risk, and several of the author’s close friends and colleagues died in flight test accidents during this period. It is because of the courage and expertise of such people that millions of flights now touch down safely each year.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unleash your entrepreneurial spirit with a counterintuitive approach to starting your own venture or taking your career to the next level Start Before You’re Ready offers entrepreneurs an inspiring new roadmap to success — one that runs against nearly everything you’ve ever been taught about business. Author Mick Spencer is living proof that success doesn’t always rest down the traditional path of formal education and deep pockets. At the age of 22, with nothing to his name, he founded ONTHEGO Custom Apparel (www.otgcustom.com), a customised apparel and uniform company. Since then he has built a worldwide network of movers and shakers and raised millions in venture capital. His company is now a multi-million-dollar player on the international stage, disrupting the slow-moving industry with a modern blend of technological disruptions and social responsibility. In this book, he presents a solid case that analysis paralysis and endless ‘preparation’ won’t get you anywhere — you have to take that leap and do what you really want to do. Indeed, start before you’re ready. Spencer challenges you to get outside your comfort zone and, although intimidating, his approach forces you to learn ‘on the go’ and focus on what you can do rather than what you can’t. Engrossing personal anecdotes coach you through the frustrations and challenges, while vital tools and clear strategies give you a concrete plan for making every day count, many of which have been taught to Mick by billionaires, global CEO’s and highly sought after founders. Chart your own path to success — even without a university degree or financial assets Focus on what you can do right now to achieve your goals Master self-reliance, overcome adversity and discover your true purpose Learn positive habits and build confidence to overcome challenges Starting your own venture or pushing the boundaries in your career is always a leap of faith. It’s saying ‘yes’ before figuring out how to deliver. It’s moments of self-doubt followed by fiery adventurousness and courageous optimism. You are at once inspired, vulnerable, motivated and proud — and you are capable of extraordinary things. Start Before You’re Ready equips you with the inspiration and practical advice you need to succeed in today’s entrepreneurial environment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design and development of digital computer software for distributed concurrent programming environments has increased significantly in the past few years. The presence of remote processors and concurrency greatly complicates the creation, analysis, testing, and debugging of all software produced for these environments. It appears that few tools developed for sequential environments are adequate for debugging software programs in a distributed concurrent environment. The distributed concurrent environment also presents the need for special debugging tools that were not needed for sequential environments. This research will present a new model for debugging programs in a distributed concurrent programming environment. This new model was used to design, develop, and implement an integrated, cooperating set of concurrent debugging tools. The new debugging model and tool set were used in a distributed Concurrent C development environment running under the UNIX® operating system and connected by an Ethernet local area network. Actual results obtained from using the new debugging scheme and integrated debugging tool set to detect, locate, and correct software faults in distributed Concurrent C programs are also presented.
