Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inhibition resides inside of us, somewhere between our desires and fears. We all have prejudices and habits that we subconsciously act out but are unaware of the reason why. These habits become second nature, and before you realize it you will be operating inside a safe zone. No one has to lock you in this place if they can convince you to never turn the knob. But who determines our safe zones? Why is there a boundary on our desires? Ray vs. the Toons is a journey outside the gates, not a physical gate but a mental gate, which each of us build as we journey through life. We are inhibited by things that we unconsciously construct, not from our own experiences but from the experiences of others. As fears and prejudices of others are projected upon us, we begin constructing this mental gate. The gate protects us from what’s on the other side and gives us comfort. But there are times when our desires overtake our fears; that is the moment when we reach for the knob and turn it. There will come a time when you have to tear down the walls of prejudice and rebuild them with walls of confidence.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Universal V-Ray Settings This page provides a tutorial on universal settings for V-Ray that work for most still images. Overview The "universal" settings comprise a set of settings that work very well for still images in many situations and are the default for V-Ray Next. Please note that these settings are not optimal, in the sense that with enough tweaking, you can probably get similar quality with faster render times. The beauty of these settings, though, is that they require almost no tweaking, and you are guaranteed to get a good result in the end. The advantages of these settings are: o very little parameters for controlling render quality vs. speed o works for a very large number of scenes o produces high-quality results With the Progressive Image Sampler, the default Render time (min) is set to 1.0, which might be insufficient for some scenes. You can reset this to 0.0 min and rendering will continue until the Noise threshold is reached. Setting the V-Ray Renderer 1. Set V-Ray as the current rendering engine (with the default V-Ray settings). 2. The default settings are optimized to work universally, so it is recommended to keep them: Progressive image sampler with 100 Max. subdivs and 1 Min. subdivs; GI enabled, using Brute Force as Primary GI engine and Light Cache as Secondary GI engine. 3. You can further refine the noise levels from the Progressive Image sampler rollout by adjusting the Noise Threshold and placing a 0 value for the Render time (min). 4. You can control the amount of AA vs shading samples (for materials/lights/GI) using the Min shading rate parameter in the Image Sampler rollout but the default value is optimised to work well for the majority of scenes.

Book excerpt: Animation has been part of television since the start of the medium but it has rarely received unbiased recognition from media scholars. More often, it has been ridiculed for supposedly poor technical quality, accused of trafficking in violence aimed at children, and neglected for indulging in vulgar behavior. These accusations are often made categorically, out of prejudice or ignorance, with little attempt to understand the importance of each program on its own terms. This book takes a serious look at the whole genre of television animation, from the early themes and practices through the evolution of the art to the present day. Examining the productions of individual studios and producers, the author establishes a means of understanding their work in new ways, at the same time discussing the ways in which the genre has often been unfairly marginalized by critics, and how, especially in recent years, producers have both challenged and embraced this "marginality" as a vital part of their work. By taking seriously something often thought to be frivolous, the book provides a framework for understanding the persistent presence of television animation in the American media--and how surprisingly influential it has been.

Book excerpt: This is the full, unofficial and uncensored story of one of the greatest football clubs in the world. It brings to life the sensational early successes of the great Anglo-Scottish team before the First World War and follows the club's successes as Cup giants in the 1950s and European conquerors in the 60s, to the Macdonald and Keegan squads of the 1970s and '80s, to its rebirth in the 1990s and through its trials and tribulations of the first decade of the 21st century. Exploring and explaining the lean years as well as the successful decades, Roger Hutchinson brilliantly portrays the managers and players throughout the club's long history and brings the story right up to date as, after the relegation traumas of 2008/09, Newcastle United looks forward to a resurgence in their fortunes as they return to the Premiership in 2010.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Understanding X-Rays' is a book planned to fill the gap between basic and advanced knowledge of Radiology. It meets the moment when a - diologist is not available, and a diagnosis is required. Each section is introduced by a chapter on 'how to 'understand'X-rays', encouraging a complete and systematic approach to radiographs focusing on every part of the image.A three-point approach is presented, consi- ing of the 'quick look', a systematic detailed scrutiny of the images, and - nally a brief look at 'review areas'. Most difficulties in interpreting radiographs do not arise from iden- fying the clearly normal or abnormal, but the huge grey expanse between. Therefore, normal variants that may masquerade as disease are discussed in detail.Likewise, common appearances, often incidental and unimp- tant, are covered thoroughly, as these appearances can readily be misint- preted as being due to significant disease. The chapters on disease entities follow a logical sequence of conge- tal, traumatic, infective, neoplastic and miscellaneous conditions. Po- traumatic sequelae are discussed in much greater detail in each section. To limit the handbook to a pocket-sized format, certain aspects of Radi- ogy receive scant attention and some are excluded altogether.(The foll- ing are not included: physics, instrumentation, machine construction, - teriography, and ultrasound imaging of obstetrics, the eye and vascular structures.Aspects such as congenital heart disease, bone dysplasias, bone tumours and barium meal examinations are not discussed at any length).
