Book Synopsis Revisiting Moroccan Migrations by : Mohammed Berriane
Download or read book Revisiting Moroccan Migrations written by Mohammed Berriane and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the 20th century, Morocco has become one of the world’s major emigration countries. But since 2000, growing immigration and settlement of migrants from sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and Europe confronts Morocco with an entirely new set of social, cultural, political and legal issues. This book explores how continued emigration and increasing immigration is transforming contemporary Moroccan society, with a particular emphasis on the way the Moroccan state is dealing with shifting migratory realities. The authors of this collective volume embark on a dialogue between theory and empirical research, showcasing how contemporary migration theories help understanding recent trends in Moroccan migration, and, vice-versa, how the specific Moroccan case enriches migration theory. This perspective helps to overcome the still predominant Western-centric research view that artificially divide the world into ‘receiving’ and ‘sending’ countries and largely disregards the dynamics of and experiences with migration in countries in the Global South. This book was previously published as a special issue of The Journal of North African Studies.
Book Synopsis Myth of the Nation and Vision of Revolution by : Ignaz Goldziher
Download or read book Myth of the Nation and Vision of Revolution written by Ignaz Goldziher and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-29 with total page 625 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In what may well rank as the finest political and intellectual history of the twentieth century, the late J. L. Talmon explores the origins of the schism within European society between the totalitarians of Right and Left as well as the split between an acceptance of the historical national community as the natural political and social framework and the vision of a socialist society achieved by a universal revolutionary breakthrough. This, the third and final volume of Talmon's history of the modern world, brings to bear the resources of his incisive scholarship to examine the workings of the ironies of totalitarianism as well as the resources of democracy.

Book Synopsis The Psychology of Marxian Socialism by : Henry de Man
Download or read book The Psychology of Marxian Socialism written by Henry de Man and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-02-18 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic work on the psychology of socialism carries for this edition a slightly refurbished title. By calling it The Psychology of Marxian Socialism, the work is sharply distinguished from an earlier work of the same title (written at a much earlier time) by Gustave LeBon. This book was written in the post-Bolshevik revolutionary era, at the height of the Weimar democracy in Germany; LeBon’s represents a fin de siècle effort, reflecting earlier concerns in socialist theory. De Man’s work derives its strength from a close and hard look at how socialism operated in one country. It is probably one of the greatest such efforts in the post-World War I period.

This book was released on 1995-08-25 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Art of the Crusaders in the Holy Land, 1098-1187 examines the art and architecture produced for the Crusaders in Syria-Palestine during the first century of their quest to recapture Jerusalem. Commissioned by kings and queens, patriarchs and bishops, knights and merchants, who came as pilgrims or settlers to the Holy Land, it is an art of manuscript illumination, fresco painting, mosaics, stone sculpture, metalwork, ivory carving, coins and seals by artists trained in the Latin West, and the Byzantine and Islamic East. Combining the stylistic and iconographic traditions of these regions, Crusader art defies easy categorization: indeed, it is a unique phenomenon within the spectrum of medieval art.

Book Synopsis The Long March of the French Left by : Richard William Johnson
Download or read book The Long March of the French Left written by Richard William Johnson and published by Palgrave Macmillan. This book was released on 1981 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shortly before the French parliamentary elections of 1978, when the Union of the Left broke up in bitter disarray, its supporters and opponents alike were flabbergasted. Years of patient struggle has brought the Left to the very brink of power, making possible at last the eviction of the conservative regime which has grown so comfortable and arrogant during its long tenure in government. How could all this be so abruptly thrown away? Had the Socialists, as the Communists alleged, sabotaged the Union of the Left? Or was it merely that the Communists did not really want to share in power? And what hope could the Left now salvage for the future?
