This book was released on 2018-07-13 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A pilot plant scale furnace was designed and constructed for casting titanium alloy strips. The furnace combines plasma arc skull melting techniques with melt overflow rapid solidification technology. A mathematical model of the melting and casting process was developed. The furnace cast strip of a suitable length and width for use with honeycomb structures. Titanium alloys Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-14Al-21 Nb were successfully cast into strips. The strips were evaluated by optical metallography, microhardness measurements, chemical analysis, and cold rolling. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rapid solidification processing results in increased strength, and fracture and fatigue resistance of alloys, with concurrent improvements in mechanical, physical and chemical properties. This volume provides a systematic examination of this technology, including metallurgical aspects, processing methods, alloy design, and applications. Each chapter was prepared by a specialist for this volume. The text is well illustrated with more than 400 micrographs and schematics. More than 75 tables provide important reference data.
Book Synopsis International Conference on Martensitic Transformations (ICOMAT) 2008 by : Gregory Olson
Download or read book International Conference on Martensitic Transformations (ICOMAT) 2008 written by Gregory Olson and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-10-09 with total page 1617 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the week of June 29 - July 5, 2008, over 300 scientists and engineers from 30 countries spanning five continents converged at the historic La Fonda Hotel in the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA to participate in the 12th International Conference on Martensitic Transformations (ICOMAT-08) to fathom the peculiar world of certain crystalline materials that undergo structural change when cooled or stressed. Many of these materials can restore their original shape when reheated, thus the name "Shape Memory Alloys". In the spirit of Santa Fe, a central theme of ICOMAT-08 was INTEGRATION across many dimensions.

Download or read book Physical Metallurgy written by R.W. Cahn and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1996-02-09 with total page 2889 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fourth edition of a work which first appeared in 1965. The first edition had approximately one thousand pages in a single volume. This latest volume has almost three thousand pages in 3 volumes which is a fair measure of the pace at which the discipline of physical metallurgy has grown in the intervening 30 years.Almost all the topics previously treated are still in evidence in this version which is approximately 50% bigger than the previous edition. All the chapters have been either totally rewritten by new authors or thoroughly revised and expanded, either by the third-edition authors alone or jointly with new co-authors. Three chapters on new topics have been added, dealing with dry corrosion, oxidation and protection of metal surfaces; the dislocation theory of the mechanical behavior of intermetallic compounds; and (most novel) a chapter on polymer science for metallurgists, which analyses the conceptual mismatch between metallurgists' and polymer scientists' way of looking at materials. Special care has been taken throughout all chapters to incorporate the latest experimental research results and theoretical insights. Several thousand citations to the research and review literature are included in this edition. There is a very detailed subject index, as well as a comprehensive author index. The original version of this book has long been regarded as the standard text in physical metallurgy and this thoroughly rewritten and updated version will retain this status.
Book Synopsis Direct Strip Casting of Metals and Alloys by : M Ferry
Download or read book Direct Strip Casting of Metals and Alloys written by M Ferry and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2006-03-24 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Direct strip casting is a continuous casting process for producing metallic sheet directly from the molten state that minimises the need for substantial secondary processing. This important book is the first to review the implications of strip casting technology for a range of alloys, including carbon and stainless steel, aluminium, magnesium, titanium, copper and other non-ferrous alloys. The book is divided into six chapters, with the first two describing the physical metallurgy of candidate alloys for direct strip casting and the development of microstructure during solidification. Chapter 3 describes the principles of continuous casting processes and the evolution of direct strip casting. It provides the foundation for the following two chapters which describe process variables and their impact on microstructure and strip quality. The final chapter describes possible techniques in secondary processing and fabrication of the as-cast strip. Two appendices discuss simulation and modelling issues, and the measurement and representation of textures in metal strip.Direct strip casting of metals and alloys is a standard reference on a technology destined to have a profound impact on the manufacturing landscape of the twenty-first century. - First book to review the implications of strip technology for a range of alloys - Essential book on a technology destined to have a profound impact on the manufacturing landscape of the twenty-first century
