Book excerpt: We present the[eta] and E[sub T] dependence of dijet events produced by color-singlet exchange in[anti p]p collisions at[radical]s= 1.8 TeV using data collected by the CDF collaboration at the Fermilab Tevatron. In a sample of events with two forward jets, where the jets are on opposite sides in rapidity with[vert-bar][eta][vert-bar]> 1. 8 and E[sub T]> 20 GeV, we find 1.13[+-] 0.12(stat)[+-] 0. 11(syst)% have a rapidity gap between the jets consistent with color- singlet exchange. This signal has no significant dependence on the jet E[sub T] or the rapidity interval between the jets.

Book excerpt: Results are presented from an analysis of the particle multiplicity distribution between high transverse energy jets produced at the Fermilab Tevatron p{bar p} Collider at (square root)s = 1.8 Tev. Using the D0 detector, we examine the particle multiplicity distribution between the two highest transverse energy jets. For events with large rapidity separation, we observed a significant excess of events at low tagged-particle multiplicity which is consistent with a strongly interacting color-singlet exchange process.

Jane joined Bob at St. Croix for the first session of this Institute, after Bob had stepped down as director of Fermilab, and was scheming to build a modest charm factory in the parking lot of Columbia University's Nevis Laboratory. Through the years, Bob has been a great friend of the School, and much of its success and flavor can be attributed to his guidance and support. The 1998 meeting was held once again at the Hotel on the Cay, and, as before, the work and the fun went on very enjoyably. We had a to tal of 76 participants from 23 countries, with the main financial support for the meeting provided by the Scientific Affairs Division of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The ASI was co-sponsored by the U. S. Department of Energy, by the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), by the U.S. National Science Foundation, and by the University of Rochester. As in the case of the previous ASIs, the scientific program was designed for advanced graduate students and recent PhD recipients in experimental particle physics. The present volume of lectures should complement and update the material published (by Plenum) for the first nine ASIs and prove to be of value to a wider audience of physicists.

Jet production via color-singlet exchange at high momenta transfer is observed as a class of events with low particle multiplicity (or rapidity gaps) between the two highest transverse energy jets. The particle multiplicity in various regions, and the dependencies on jet pseudorapidity separation and jet transverse energy are studied for these events. Results from two classes of dijet events with one or two forward rapidity gaps are also presented. The topology of these events is consistent with expectations for hard single diffraction and hard double pomeron exchange processes, respectively.
