Book Synopsis Rapid, Automated Gas Chromatographic Detection of Organic Compounds in Ultra-pure Water by :
Download or read book Rapid, Automated Gas Chromatographic Detection of Organic Compounds in Ultra-pure Water written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An automated gas chromatography was used to analyze water samples contaminated with trace (parts-per-billion) concentrations of organic analytes. A custom interface introduced the liquid sample to the chromatography. This was followed by rapid chromatographic analysis. Characteristics of the analysis include response times less than one minute and automated data processing. Analytes were chosen based on their known presence in the recycle water streams of semiconductor manufacturers and their potential to reduce process yield. These include acetone, isopropanol, butyl acetate, ethyl benzene, p-xylene, methyl ethyl ketone and 2-ethoxy ethyl acetate. Detection limits below 20 ppb were demonstrated for all analytes and quantitative analysis with limited speciation was shown for multianalyte mixtures. Results are discussed with respect to the potential for on-line liquid process monitoring by this method.

Download or read book Rapid GC/MS Identification of Hazardous Organic Compounds in Complex Extracts written by PP. Dymerski and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical laboratory scheme has been designed specifically to support the rapid and cost effective characterization of complex hazardous waste materials. Rapid analysis includes "compatibility" testing of the gross characteristics of the material, identification and quantitation of metals, and the identification and semi-quantitation of organic compounds in water, soil, sludge, and organic matrixes. Organic compounds can be screened by gas chromatography and characterized by halogen or nonhalogen content. The former includes poly(chlorinated biphenyls) (PCBs), which are quantitated using a novel basic computer program. Other halogenated compounds are identified using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) with the aid of a halogen isotope cluster survey program. Nonhalogenated compounds are identified by fingerprint chromatograms or searching the GC/MS spectral library.

Book excerpt: An apparatus and process for the continuous, near real-time monitoring of low-level concentrations of organic compounds in a liquid, and, more particularly, a water stream. A small liquid volume of flow from a liquid process stream containing organic compounds is diverted by an automated process to a heated vaporization capillary where the liquid volume is vaporized to a gas that flows to an automated gas chromatograph separation column to chromatographically separate the organic compounds. Organic compounds are detected and the information transmitted to a control system for use in process control. Concentrations of organic compounds less than one part per million are detected in less than one minute.

Book Synopsis Gas Chromatographic Analysis of Aqueous Solutions by : R. A. Baker
Download or read book Gas Chromatographic Analysis of Aqueous Solutions written by R. A. Baker and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas chromatographic principles and recent applications to the determination of low levels of inorganic and organic substances in aqueous solutions are reviewed. Emphasis is placed on the use of flame-ionization detection and gas-liquid chromatography. Applications to situations requiring rapid, accurate determination of dilute aqueous solutions are becoming more important in water treatment and quality control. Suggestions are made for extending the procedures to supplement sensory panel testing, monitoring water intake quality, providing an early warning of slug discharges at water plant intakes, and elucidating biological and chemical processes.
Book Synopsis Experimental Determination of Limits of Detection for Volatile Organic Compounds in Ambient Air Measured by Automatic Gas Chromatograph and Comparison with Reference Methods by : Sara Gutirrez-Sama
Download or read book Experimental Determination of Limits of Detection for Volatile Organic Compounds in Ambient Air Measured by Automatic Gas Chromatograph and Comparison with Reference Methods written by Sara Gutirrez-Sama and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Automatic gas chromatograph (auto-GCs) manufacturers perform an experimental method for a simple, rapid, and low-cost detection limit evaluation for volatile organic compounds in ambient air. The principle is the estimation of a minimum area of a peak. It is a relevant area value that discerns a real peak from the ground noise. This experimental limit of detection is equal to the minimum area unit multiplied by a known ratio concentration or area unit defined after calibration. Three different international methods have been compared with this experimental method: the calibration curve method issued in Europe for Monitoring Certification Scheme, the method detection limit issued during a gas chromatograph evaluation study organized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and a third international method based on an approach by the use of background noise. The exploitation of the different results concludes that this experimental method gives values in the same order of magnitude as the other methods. This experimental approach is concrete and beneficial for the improvement of auto-GCs: less ground noise, more sample volume trapped, and increase in the value area unit or mass injected.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The only reference to provide both current and thorough coverage of this important analytical technique Static headspace-gas chromatography (HS-GC) is an indispensable technique for analyzing volatile organic compounds, enabling the analyst to assay a variety of sample matrices while avoiding the costly and time-consuming preparation involved with traditional GC. Static Headspace-Gas Chromatography: Theory and Practice has long been the only reference to provide in-depth coverage of this method of analysis. The Second Edition has been thoroughly updated to reflect the most recent developments and practices, and also includes coverage of solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and the purge-and-trap technique. Chapters cover: * Principles of static and dynamic headspace analysis, including the evolution of HS-GC methods and regulatory methods using static HS-GC * Basic theory of headspace analysis-physicochemical relationships, sensitivity, and the principles of multiple headspace extraction * HS-GC techniques-vials, cleaning, caps, sample volume, enrichment, and cryogenic techniques * Sample handling * Cryogenic HS-GC * Method development in HS-GC * Nonequilibrium static headspace analysis * Determination of physicochemical functions such as vapor pressures, activity coefficients, and more Comprehensive and focused, Static Headspace-Gas Chromatography, Second Edition provides an excellent resource to help the reader achieve optimal chromatographic results. Practical examples with original data help readers to master determinations in a wide variety of areas, such as forensic, environmental, pharmaceutical, and industrial applications.
